My kids love to do tie-dye, I usually get asked to go assist the first graders when they do their class shirts for the music class concert. Then we also do cement stepping stones for the gardens - the kids adore doing that for some reason. I try to keep them busy, I am always cleaning up scraps of paper from their art projects. My husband just shakes his head. But its better to keep them busy, then letting them sit in front of the TV, but I guess its because I am always trying rope hubby into the projects too.

Growing up sounded very educational. As for rock hounding...I used to but really we have so many rocks that it can become a clutter. I do love the smooth river rocks and the slate. We have crystal mines and those places have the best clear crystal. Most of the rest of the places are the white ones like we have here. People used to look for arrow heads but can't anymore as Indians don't like you doing that. The granddaughters and I go to the river each summer and get a nice flat river rock and then I let them paint them...it is our one messy day a years. This past summer we made tie-dyed tees instead of the rocks. We do it outside on our picnic table.

The tomatoes grew like crazy in the raised bed (I posted 2 pictures of it on my spark page) - I ended up roasting a lot of tomatoes and freezing them to cook with later. I just used the last bag of them this week. They tasted so good. My son started a pumpkin plant at school and it actually produced a fairly large pumpkin, that is on the counter - I plan on roasting it soon, he would like a pumpkin pie. So I promised the kids we could grow carrots this summer, but we will do that in a large container so I can pull it into the garage next winter, plus it will be easier to cover with netting to keep out the carrot rust bug.

So Barb do you ever go rock hounding? I got into rock hounding when I lived in Albuquerque, NM. Great fun, when my littlest gets a little older I will start planning day trips for the family to go rock hounding.

Okay - I admit it, I am an Army brat and we typically moved every 18 to 24 months, Western Washington is the longest I have lived in one area - continuously. The following states I have had the pleasure of residing and gardening (I got into gardening when I was six years old)in: Colorado, New Hampshire, Kentucky, California, New Mexico, Arkansas, Washington, and Germany. Not necessarily in that order and some locations multiple times.

Hi Kc So glad to get to know you. I love your page. This is a great way to get to know each other. My my river rock. We have river rocks in our river but we only have ROCKS in our yard. They are natural and many are the white crystals. In fact I've had a hard time getting things to grow right around our house without raised beds as it is mostly solid rock. Our veggie garden is on the bottom side of our hill where most os the soil is located but we still have to add to it each year. By the way your garden pictures are lovely and love the lizard birdbath. That is so unique. And your weight loss is going great. Keep up the good work. Hugs. Barb

WELCOME!!! So happy to have you on our team. Your raised beds sound wonderful. You will have to keep us updated on the growth of those goodies!

I wish I could take your rocks for you but I am in Ohio. :-(

Hi! I wish you lived closer - I would take some of the river rock off your hands! Dh wants to build a waterfall in the backyard one day. Hopefully you can find someone there who wants it.

I'm Kc and am in Marysville, WA about 35 miles north of Seattle. I'm currently a full-time mom to two very active children, school volunteer, and have a variety of different interests. We are currently trying to remove 4 inches of river rock in the backyard (anywhere there wasn’t poured concrete patio there is river rock and plastic) the previous owner deemed this suitable landscaping. Thankfully the front yard is much larger than the back yard and I have been able to set up several different flowering beds there. Although my husband tells me that I can’t plant veggies in the front yard, so he did build me one raised bed in the side yard last year (on top of the river rock) I had lots of tomatoes, although we were late warming up last year. I am still wondering what happen to spring and fall last year.
