I have heard of the potential dangers of Effexor. I finally agreed to take it because I have tried several other antidepressants, and they all stopped working. I struggle with severe depression, and started taking Effexor in order to be able to function and so that I'm not suicidal. I have a very good psychiatrist, family doctor, and therapist who are monitoring me. I will not try to stop taking Effexor without their guidance. Also, I think me psychiatrist my have put me on it to help me gain weight since I also struggle with anorexia. I was upset about that at first, but it may make me healthier in the long run.
Welcome. I have depression, panic attacks, anxiety, had agoraphobia.
Beware of Effexor. It worked for me for about 2-3 years but I put on about 70lbs while on it. It is hard to get off of. The withdrawal symptoms are terrible. I wanted switch to something that would stop the weight gain and I was given Cymbalta and it made me suicidal. It was worse to get off than Effexor. There so many better drugs out there than these two. In my opinion Effexor makes you put on weight and Cymbalta should be taken off the market.
Buspar is good for panic disorder and I take Xanax if I am having a full blown panic attack.
I'm a newbie to the team, and pretty new to Sparkpeople in general. I have been diagnosed with panic disorder (with agoraphobia), major depressive disorder, and an eating disorder. I am currently on Effexor, and it seems to be doing very well. Regarding the panic disorder, I have a tendency to have panic attacks pretty frequently, but they are getting better.
