thanks Pastafarian - I know it is not the right way so I am looking for help in that area

I know if our pace was a slower consistent pace we would not have been cranking then slowng down

another long walk tomorrow - so will try a different approach and now searching the web for training programs

If you feel you are cranking, you're going too fast from the start. You should do long walks at a sustainable pace. (Your observation - that you slowed down after awhile - confirms this.)

I know if feels good but long walks are not for "cranking."

thanks all for the show of support - our training is going very well - we did our longer walk ever this past weekend 9 miles and we were cranking but started slowing down about mile 7 - and the 9 took us 2 hours and 15 minutes.

Now with that time that puts us at 3 hours and 15 or more minutes to complete


we know we will not be cranking thru all 13.1 so what are the strategies people use???

Congrats on joining us half marathoners. I walked and so far, only half marathon in April 2012 and maybe walk my second, if I can convince myself I can walk it in under 3 hours the Sunday after thanksgiving. (We usually travel for Thanksgiving and drive home on Saturday.) Hope your half goes well.

3/31/12 Trailbreaker half marathon 13.1 miles in 3 hours 13 minutes
4/20/13 Neighborhood Watch 5K 39:17.6
10/5/13 5K Grace Pet Fest 38:47.6
12/1/13 Secret City Half Marathon around 3 hours and 4 minutes
4/19/14 Butterflies for Hope 5K for Lupus 39:23.8 (I hurt my back a few days before, and though it was my first official 5K with some jogging, my back hurt, so was very slow.)

Hi I am new to half marathons and while I walk often never thought of a half marathon. My wlaking partner said lets do it and we are doing it - Nov 10th and we don't care if we are last, we just care that we cross that finish line. I hope to pick up useful advice from this forum.
