Congrats and welcome to the half marathon world =). I have now completed 9 and had 1 did not finish due to heat exhaustion. I have friends who keep trying to convince me to do a full marathon and not sure it is for me - but very happy with the half marathon distance =)

to the team. I think your decision is wise. Experience the half first. It's a lot of prep time to be ready and you have the time. You will feel successful and satisfied - definitely shouldn't be bored. This is a great team. You will enjoy the interaction...

The half-marathon is truly my favorite distance...it's long enough for a challenge but not so long that it takes away from your life for training purposes like the full does. My third half-marathon was actually the RnR half in NO. It was such a fun event with over 20 SparkPeople members coming down to run together...what fun it was!
Hello, fellow runners! I have done multiple 5Ks and 1 formal 10K race. I am doing the New Orleans half marathon Feb. 2013. How I came to my decision was a bit circuitous and I put a bit more detail below.
I had decided last week to do a full marathon Feb. 2013. I have had a lot of anxiety and worry about the marathon after I made the decision. As I evaluated my anxiety and my decision to do the marathon, I had to acknowledge I wanted to do the marathon more out of boredom with 5 and 10Ks than out of the pure desire to push myself. As a result, I had a lot of anxiety about my abilities.
Last night in my meditation, I listened to my heart and realized I need to do a half marathon first. Doing the half will build my confidence for the full marathon. It will also break me out of the 5K boredom and push my abilites without the full on intensity of marathon training.
I am just awaiting the pull in my heart for the full. It is a decision not to be made out of boredom.
