AMEN GladGad - nothing mini about the half marathon - I have done lots and am proud of each and every start/finish....but never have I thought it was mini. My husband and kids all say how proud they are and support me all the time and come to nearly every race.....BUT....none of them want to run that far with me ....so can't be that mini =)

I found a beginner's plan on www.coolrunning.com, but they no longer have it posted. Their beginner's plan is now a 4 day a week plan, while this one is a 3 day a week plan. I posted it on an old blog of mine; here is the link to that blog: www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_ individual.asp?blog_id=3413896. Feel free to e-mail me if you have any questions about it or don't understand how it is organized.

Love that quote you used! How do you post those quotes? Very inspirational! But is there any specific training program you used or did you just google one? Thanks for the input

Like others here have said, if you're looking to run a half marathon, find a training schedule. There are some free ones online or you can find them in running books. Most have you running 3x a week over a 12 week period, which will get you across the finish line. But remember - me there is NOTHING mini about 13.1 miles, and I never understand why races refer to that distance as a mini.

Hi Audrey,
Find a 1/2 that's about 16-20 weeks out and then find a training program and begin training. Having a solid running base is important and since you have done a 10K, a mini is very doable.

It is very doable. The longest I had ran was also 6 miles, so, I finally decided to train for a half. I ended up doing one on October 30th and then, one on December 4th. Find a program that works for you and you'll be running a half in no time at all. Good luck and let us know how it goes!!

By mini do you mean a 13.1 mile Half marathon? I would look for a good training program near home and join it. Or Google Half Marathon Training and find a program that suits you best. I used Jeff Galloway and I was very satisfied.

Hello everyone! I'm new...I'm Audrey from Carmel, Indiana. I am working on getting in shape, but I also love to run. I recently on the weekend after July 4th ran a 10k and finished the entire thing running, which was a huge accomplishment for me (especially with the heat!). I would love to get tips on how to push myself even further to be able to run a mini in the near future.
