HI I just found this board... still pretty new to SP. I just started training for my my first 1/2. I was a runner in high school, but stopped after I ran a marathon at age 18. Now at 30, I found my way back and enjoy it more than ever. I hope to run my 1/2 at the end of May.
Leap and the net will appear.
Hi, Im Lindsey, and Im excited to have found this team. I ran one 1/2 last April, without a lot of training, and I am looking forward to being more prepared for this year's. April 18th!
I was a runner through high school, then pretty much took an 8-year hiatus. Started back (slowly) last January. Now I live nearby some great trails, but I'll probably wait til it warms up a little to start back outside.
I am looking forward to talking to other runners here for good training tips and work-out ideas!

Hi! I'm new to the team as well. I'm planning on running my first half in May. I've run a few 5ks, but no other formal races so it shouldbe exciting!
Hi I'm new to this team. I ran (not sure I can call it that) my first half marathon last year. I am running the same race again in May and hoping to finish in 2 hours. When I first started I could barely run for a minute without stopping, the sense of achievement when I finished my first half was definitely worth the effort!
Good luck everyone x
Hello. I'm new to the half marathon team. I've walked 5 1/2's. My first was the inaugrual Evansville Half Marathon Half as far - Twice as good in 2004. I've done all but 1. In the past my goal was just to finish. That was how I trained, just enough to finish. In 2007 I finished in 3:57 (a four hour time limit). 2008, I changed my goal to better my time. I finished in 3:50. My goal in 2009 is to finish with a 15:00 pace or less for the 1/2.
Looking forward to getting to know you.

Hi, I'm new here. Every year I keep saying I am going to run a race, and I have finally decided to stop letting life pace me by, and not participate in anything. So I going to do it in April.
Hi everyone! I'm Sarah. I joined this team yesterday. I've always had a 1/2 Marathon on my Life List and this is the year I'm going to do it! I'm training for my first 1/2 Marathon in May. I live in Ontario, Canada, and will be running the Mississauga Marathon on Mother's Day. The exciting part is that I am a new Mom to a 10 month old, and will be celebrating my next Mother's Day with the 1/2 Marathon! Woo Hoo!
Happy running to everyone! - Sarah : )
"The only constant thing in life is Change."
my name is Grace and I am training to run my first half in May. I am very excited and motivated about the race and plan on running a 10K in March as a "warmup." I think its going to be great to have a support group.
March 15 2009 first 10K race!
May 31 2009 first half marathon!
My name is Alison, I'm 24 and live in the Seattle area. I have recently decided to attempt to participate in the Rock and Roll Seattle half marathon.
I'm not a runner currently but I'm hoping to get there. I have started an eight week beginning running program I found on Runners World and it seems to be going pretty well. I'm learning that I can slow down my pace and run for a lot longer than I could even two weeks ago.
I'm planning on doing a 5K in the beginning of Feb. and a 3.75 mile St. Patrick's Day run in March to help keep me motivate with small goals before the half in June.
It seems like a lot of people on this team have been running for quite a while so hopefully I can pick your brains for tips and tricks. I just bought my first pair of real running shoes tonight and I am ready to get going!
I'm new to the team. I'm training for the music city marathon on April 25th. It'll be my first half marathon and I'm hoping it will be a fun experience. The race day is also my 49th birthday.
I just stated running last summer and I ran my first 10k race in August (seven days after my 30th birthday!) I did okay, but I would like to push myself that extra little bit. I am going to train this winter and spring for our local marathon and try the half! I fell in love with running when I started and now I crave it. I love the feel of being free on the road!
I have lost 30 pounds since I started my weight loss journey and I credit a lot of that to running!

Hello, I am new to this team although not new to half marathons. My next race is the AT&T marathon (I'm doing half) on Feb. 15th. I believe this will be my 4th half marathon. Something can be learned from each race and I'm excited because this year I am 10 pounds less than what I weighed during last year's run. I hope to make it a personal best although my training has suffered a bit with an achilles injury and then vacation. But I'm getting back on track and hope to have a great race. I'm looking forward to getting and giving some good tips on this team.
And let us not be weary in well doing; for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.
I finished my first Half Marathon in 2007 (The Heels and Hills Half). I have become hopelessly addicted. I have run 9 Half Marathons so far. My last race was the Walt Disney World Half on Jan 10th. My next one will be the Mardi Gras in New Orleans on Feb 1.
Best wishes to everyone on their races this year!
Hello! I'm new to both SparkPeople and to running Half Marathons! I just joined the "Team in Training" to run the Flying Pig Marathon in May! I'm both excited and nervous!
I look forward to getting to know all of you and for learning all that I can about running half marathons.
Blessings to you all...

Hello! I am excited to be a part of this team. I am running my first 1/2 on April 11th. My training schedule began this week and so far so good. However I tend to be one of those people that does great for a month and then starts to slack.
I am also getting married on April 25th, so life is busy, but I am up for the challenge.
Hey! After losing my grandmother to stroke last year, I wanted to do something. A postcard showed up in my mail advertising an informational session about Train to End Stroke. I went. I signed up.
Here I am!
The half marathon is in May. In the meantime, I signed up for a 4 mi Fun Run on Valentine's Day. Somehow, I'll work up to those 13.1 miles...
Welcome to the list and good luck with the Princess half.
I just completed the WDW half marathon last weekend and the support and organization were both very good. I don't know what the Princess course will look like, but trhe WDW half ran from Epcot to the Magic Kingdom and back and the course was well laid out and the weather was nice, if a little chilly at the start.
Good luck and let us know how it goes!
Welcome to the list!
I have run the Disneyland half marathons since they began in 2006 and I love them, but be prepared for heat. Labor Day weekend in Anaheim can be vary warm, even at 6am.
As the race gets closer, I will be happy to talk about the course and any issues you might encounter, but for now have fun and keep working out so the ramp up to the race is not too hard.
Just joined this group today - am training for my first half-marathon in March, in the Walt Disney World Princess Half.
Am looking forward to becoming a part of the group!
Training for (2009):
Disneyland Half '09 (6th Sept)
ToT 13k '09 (25th Oct)
North Glasgow 5k - April (approx 33 mins)
Women's 10k Glasgow - May (1:03:51)
East End 5k (Glasgow) - June (29:30)
Hi my name is Leia and I'm training to run my 2nd half. I did my first last April in 3:15. I was pretty slow but I was also 30lbs heavier. I'm doing my 2nd in April and plan on finishing a lot sooner. Glad to meet you all.
I need another group to Spark with, so I thought I'd check out this team periodically.
I've run the Des Moines, Iowa 1/2 and the Dam-to-Dam (also in Des Moines) a couple of times each. I run 3-4 times per week, logging about 20-25 miles.
Hope you don't mind me dropping in every so often to see how things are going-I'm not a real hard-core time buff or distance buff, but I'm pretty steady, having run pretty regularly for the past 10 years or so before deciding to run sanctioned events.
I have not yet decided if I'll venture outside of Des Moines or outside of Iowa for that matter, nor have I decided if I want to take the "marathon plunge." For now, hi all and keep on Sparking!
Hey! I haven't been super active on this team in a while. I didn't get to run the half that I had planned this past year because of some health problems...
But, I'm starting over this year! And, I plan to run the St.Jude Half on December 5th of this year.
I'm slowly working up my distance, and I'm excited about some of the smaller races I've got planned to help me get ready!
I just joined the team today because I just completed my 1st Half!! I did the City of Angels on December 7th. My time was 2:19:07.
I recently signed up for my next Half, it will be Disneyland in September. So I am going to start training in June.
Anyway, I just wanted to introduce myself and say "Hi!"
"Laugh it up Fuzzball"
hullo. I am new and excited to be here. Gonna pick up a Runner's World today to see where some races are. Started running in my early 20's and found I am not a rabbit, but a turtle. I did ok in my 10Ks and won a few prizes, but loved the 1/2 marathon. Ran my first on only marathon upon turning 45. Things went down from there as I was in an accident and couldn't even walk far for over four years, now it's going on six years, I joined Sparks, walked up to 8-9 miles, got a new pair of sneakers and am jogging again up to 8 miles. I also had knee surgery two years ago for a detached kneecap. But I am determined, have to stretch a lot and am taking it slow but will enter and complete a half marathon this year, who knows, maybe more. I live in Florida now and it is warm, hot and FLAT, so doing steps to help train.
Hello everyone! I completed my 1st ever run in 2006, a 1/4 marathon. I did it w/o training or any true prep, I just showed up and finished in 82 minutes.. not too bad for never having run a day in my life.
This time, I want to do things right. I just signed up to complete a 1/2 marathon in April. I'm really excited and hope that this will keep me focused for the next 15 weeks.
Wish you all luck and I'd appreciate any help I can get. on my way to a triatholon in my near future I hope.

Hello! I am new to this team. :)
I'm planning on completing the Disneyland Half-Marathon in Sept. I picked this goal to help cement my health/fitness goals, plus it sounds like so much fun! I'm a beginner runner, and I'm using some programs I found on runnersworld.com to train.

Hello. I'm a 35-year old mother of three ages 5 1/2, 4 and 16 months. Last year I completed two triathlons, a couple 5K races and a 5-mile race. I decided that 2009 is the year of the half marathon for me. I've got one for sure May 3rd and maybe a second one in October. I'm also planning to finish two more sprint triathlons, maybe an Olympic distance depending on the scheduling.
I'm running three mornings a week, just about 3 miles right now. Base training for a couple more weeks before I start increasing the mileage. I'm about a 10 minute miler, I'd be thrilled with a half marathon of 2:11, but my realistic goal is under 2:30.
4/25/09- 5K- 26:44
5/3/09- half marathon #1- 2:25:00
5/23/09- 5 mile race- 46:44
8/13/09- sprint triathlon-1:32:08
9/27/09- half marathon #2-2:24:05
I am a 40 year old mother of three. I decided that running a race was an achievable goal for 2009. I wanted to run a 5k this year, but I keep seeing all these mini-marathons and marathons in the area and decided that I would work my way up to a mini. Registration is sold out for the Indy 500 mini this year, but I expect to be ready for 2010. I have my eye on a 5k at the end of March and a local town is running the anti-mini is the same day as the 500 Festival Mini. I will probably walk that but there is another Indianapolis mini in October and I plan to enter that.
Wish me luck.
I'm Laura. I am a 38 year old mother of a wonderful 3 year old little girl. My husband, daughter and I live in Omaha, NE. I've been running for several years. Since becoming a dedicated runner, I really question why I have lived in this cold climate all my life, but family still keeps me here. I HATE running on the dreadmill (as I call it), but this time of year it's necessary. I LOVE being outdoors.
I had a setback about a year ago - hip bursitis, followed by a herniated disc for which I had cervical spine surgery in June 2008. I got back to running in September 2008 and have been working my way through the 10K training program. I started developing some sciatic nerve pain in my lower back and legs a few weeks ago, so my running has taken a much slower and more infrequent pace for a bit. I'm doing some physical therapy and starting to feel better. I am chomping at the bit to get back to my 10k running program. I really miss the full out running - such great stress relief!
I will be looking for a local half to run probably late summer/early fall and as soon as I finish my 10k program, I'm transitioning to a half training program. I'm excited!!
Glad to meet you all!

Hello everyone! I just wanted to introduce myself. I ran a half marathon last April and promptly signed up for a few more...only to break my ankle the day before the next one. I'm pretty well healed, and have signed up for a half this April. Training is going as well as can be expected, and I hope to at least meet my original time-- 2:04. Wish me luck!
Hi everyone! My name is Krista and I am brand new to the team so I thought I would introduce myself.
I am pretty overweight now, but my goal is to lose the weight and run a half marathon by my 40th birthday. I am 36 now, so I have no excuse if I don't make it.
I can't wait to get started!

2) Not eat my feelings
I did my first 5K a couple of years ago, and my first 10K this past summer. I have just decided to train for my first half marathon (in October). I am excited to get back out running after a rather lazy holiday season.
Hi, I'm Allison. I'm planning on doing my first half marathon around next October. I was at a point before where I could do it and I never did. Now that I want to I can't and it's driving me crazy.
Hi. My main fitness goal this year is to run the Des Moines Half-Marathon in October. I am currently pregnant with our second child, with a due date in mid-February. I am using the half-marathon goal as a way to keep me focused on bouncing back quickly after our baby is born. My exercise routine right now consists of walking and strength training. I am looking forward to resuming regular running as soon as I am able.
HI, I am a 40 yr old mom of 2, american and living in Norway. I have decided to run a 1/2 marathon in September. This is a run that goes on all surfaces including asfalt and terrain. It's also hilly. This will be my first ever and I am a little anxious about it. I ran a 10k, or at least tried, 2 years ago and the physcological (sp?) was not good. I only finished 6k. I like to run alone and having so many run past me did me in. So I am hoping I will be able to better prapare myself this time.
I found this group via another SP members home page. So I hope I find many good friends here in the same boat as me and lots of great advice.
Nothing tastes as good as skinny feels.
Happy New Year! My goal this year is to finish a half marathon in 1 hour and 45 minutes or less. I participated in 3 half marathons previously (KY Derby mini-marathon, Cincinnati Flying Pig, St. Louis Lewis & Clark) with a PR of 1:53:56.
I just recently relocated from St. Louis, MO to Gainesville, VA. I work in NW Washington, DC and I'm looking for some decent running routes. I've already found some great trails to run on and would love to hear about more in the area.

Hi & welcome Penny! I'm Ellen, 54 yo, used to run before kids, a 10k here & there. Just started up again mid-November 08. I plan to run my first 1/2 in Oshkosh, Wis, on 4/18/09.
I'm also joining a group of women at work who are doing a mini-triathlon in Waupaca, Wis, in August. (Very mini - 1/4 mile swim, 7 mile bike ride, 2 mile run--just a fun thing to do.)

Hi I'm Holly. I'm 34, mother of 2 small children, and just started running in August of this year by way of Couch 2 5K. I found the stress relief running provided to be invaluable. I have since run 2 5K and a 4 miler and I have 2 5Ks coming up on the next month. Starting off the new year right this year! I will be celebrating my first anniversary with Spark in January.
I am planning my first 1/2 in November and my first full in April of 2010.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!
Hi -- I'm new to the team and will be signing up for my 3rd 1/2 marathon. I will be "wogging" it - unless I can get my mom to join me, and then we'll be walking it together. Regardless - I'm super excited! I thought it would be a great way to keep moving in the right direction for 2009!

Hi I'm Amy, 28 years old from the UK. I have recently registered for my first half marathon (The Great West Run - 3rd May 2009). This time last year i could not run for more than a minute and was happy to tell anyone that would listen that "I'm not built for running" - how wrong was i? I entered into the Race for Life 5K (June 2008) and started to train, but this time i did it gradually and didn't run flat out on my first attempt at running. The buzz i got from the race was the most amazing feeling - and i raised over £500 for Cancer Research UK. I got engaged July 2008 and have been on top of the world ever since - but my running slowed down a bit as i had nothing to focus on, so this is why i have decided to do the half marathon. I want to get fit and lose some weight for when i go wedding dress shopping and also want to feel proud that i can run 13.1 miles and hopefully raise alot more money for Cancer Research UK, i am looking forward to 2009 and reading about others experiences of the half through this group,

My name is Kelley and I’m fairly new to the team. I started running 10 years ago and I can honestly say that I am addicted to running. I’ve ran a full marathon numerous half marathons, 10k’s and 5k’s. If I had to pick a favorite distance it would definitely be the half marathon. Here’s what’s on my calendar thus far for 2009.
The Texas Half – 2/7/09
Heels and Hills Distance Challenge (Irving, TX)
5k - 2/22/09
10k - 3/15/09
15k – 4/11/09
Heels and Hills Half Marathon – 5/03/09
The Faith Run – 5/09/09
North Texas RFTC – Dates are not posted yet, the race is typically in early June.
Mary Kay 5k - Dates are not posted yet, the race is typically in early September.
DRC Half Marathon – 11/08/09
White Rock Marathon - ???
Whew! I’m going to be a busy lady next year.
I just signed up to run my first 1/2 in May! (Heels and Hills in Irving, Texas!) I have always run shorter distances to stay in shape but just started in summer of 2008 to run longer times and take my weight loss seriously.
I ran 8 miles in November and can run 6 miles comfortably as long as I keep it fairly slow. I am excited about starting my training for the half in January!!
Good luck everyone!
Experience is what teaches us that we have a lot to learn.
I started running in Aug 08 and found I liked it. No, actually I'm hooked on running. My first 10K was the Nike 10K Aug 31, My first Half was in Sept and my first marathon was in Oct. While my marathon time was under 4 hours, my body wasn't quite ready for a 26.2 m race. A tight it band has kept me to 14 miles or less but everything is progressing well and I am training for the Whidbey Island marathon (mar), tacoma marathon (may) and my personal 6 weeks of hell. North Olympic marathon in early June, Seattle Rock and roll marathon 3 weeks later, and the Seattle to Portland bike ride 3 weeks after that.
The problem is the half distance is better on the body, but I'm not one to like just doing half of something.
I've GOT to rent that dvd!!
Nancy, I'm toying with "the big one" idea for 2009 too... My hubby didn't seem too enthusiastic when I floated the idea past him a few minutes ago - not sure what he's reluctant about... Maybe because he thinks/knows I'm ticking things off my "things to do before we start trying for baby" list, and maybe that list is getting ticked off too quickly for him...hmm....

Hey everyone! THANKS Penny for taking over the reigns for the team! Glad to have you here...
My name is Nancy...As with all important dates in my life (besides family birthdays and my anniversary), the 3 that mean the most to me and that I always celebrate are Feb 9th (my 4 yr anniversary for reclaiming my life), December 26th (my 3 year Spark-iversary) and March 25th (the first date of lacing up my running shoes).
I plan on running my 3rd half in May. Anyone running the Heels and Hills 1/2 in Los Colinas/Irving in May just send me a note. I am also going to sit down within the next day or two and map out my races. After watching the Spirit of the Marathon this may just be the year I take on the biggie, but if not by the end of 2010 for sure.
HAPPY NEW YEAR RUNNING!
Wowsers Jackie - what a racing year ahead of you!! YAY!
Good luck finding a running buddy Christie! If you can't find a coworker to train with you, maybe you could check out your local running store and see if they have groups going out...
I'm Briegh. I live in Edmonton, Canada - it's HOT in the summer and COLD in the winter here! I ran my first half this August, during the hottest week of the year! And I'm registered for a "Hypothermic Half" on March 1 - which cold possibly mean I'll be running through a blizzard, etc. I am excited to see both extremes!
Currently I run five times a week - I'm following a Running Room training plan as closely as possible (I only ran three times a week for my first half).
Here's to a fabulous 2009 for all!

Hi - I'm Christie. Welcome! I just turned 45 and I have 3 children (25, 19, and 16). I ran my first mile on 9/26/08 and my first 3 miles on 12/6/08!
I'm now motivated to run a half and officially start a training program in January. I'm a little nervous about doing this 'alone' and am trying to recruit some co-workers to run it with me.
Over the course of December I've averaged 30 minute runs 3x a week in preparation for January's training schedule. I'm hoping that I will enjoy running as much as the people I know. It's such a cool thing to do! And, I look forward to losing weight and firming up along the way!
I didn't realize we had a new leader!!! Congratulations and thank you for taking on the responsibility!!! I co-lead 3 teams and I know how much time it requires!!!
I'm Jackie!!! I started running in March of 2008 and have completed one 1/2 this past October!!!
I am running my 2nd on February 1st and 3rd on July 26th, Surf City and San Francisco...these complete the California Dreamin Race Series!!!
I also registered for the Disneyland 1/2 today!!! That race is September 6th and then I will be running my first full marathon on October 11th back in Long Beach!!!
I'm going to have a busy 2009!!!
