I am a 55 year old female. I just joined the "Living with Osteoporosis" team as my severe and incurable (due to osteogenesis imperfecta) osteoporosis has a major impact on my ability to exercise. Due to both of my hips being at a very high risk of fracture (per bone density scans), having already lost over 3 inches from spinal collapse and my tendency to get spontaneous fractures (occur without trauma), I am medically prohibited from doing most exercises commonly prescribed for weight loss and toning.
I am hoping to connect with others with similar restrictions due to severe osteoporosis so that we can share tips and motivate one another. Note that due to neurological issues,I also have balance problems and can pass out unexpectedly.
I can walk and do so whenever I am in shape (not at high risk of passing out, etc.). I can also swim and do so in the warm weather (outdoor pool). I am trying to motivate myself to use Tai Chi DVDs regularly also. (note that I cannot drive so don't have access to fitness classes.)
If there is a rock in our path, we can chose to stumble over it or use it as a stepping stone to something better.
