Hi - just joined this group myself, having just been diagnosed with Osteopenia (some doctors mash that with osteoporosis, some don't) and finding doctors in general to not be very helpful.
Don't be afraid of what they will find. Osteoporosis is not a death sentence. There are a lot of reasons why someone gets it, from genetics, to poor life style. But with care, and attention, it doesn't have to stop you from living your life. Don't let them sell you drugs until you've done your own research. Look at your life style carefully and your other health issues, like Thyroid or autoimmune disease. Focus on well ness, making sure you've got plenty of resistence and other weight bearing exercises in your program. There are a lot of alternatives out there, and YOU are the best judge of what is working for you. The only one size fits all program out there is the full, well rounded, healthy life style one.
Keep in touch, and remember we're here to support you!
I just joined this group. Last week I had a chest xray done to check for pneumonia, which I don't have. Instead the xray showed arthritis of the spine. My dr. is sending me for a bone mineral density test. On the test prescription she marked Osteoporosis (confirmed). Does this mean that I have Osteoporosis or is she ruling that out?
I can't call her as I got the letter yesterday, after the office closed. The more I think about it, the more worried I get. I'm having the test done the week after next.
