Welcome GETURDONE! So excited you have discovered Zumba. Its the fun way to get in shape. Definitely get dance sneakers! Made all the difference. I was having lower back pain and I did not know why. Someone suggested my cross training sneakers might be the problem. Sure enough, when I changed my shoes the back pain went away. Dance can take a minute to get used to. They might seem slippery at first. They make all the turns and pivots more fun and graceful! Enjoy!

Welcome aboard! I was near the weight you are at now, hon, and now I'm around 196! Zumba is a big part in the thank-you that I have shouting happily for that, so I promise it WILL get easier on your body, and more and more fun! :)

Thanks Thesaneone. I was thinking the same to myself, that when some of the weight comes off the knees will be able to do much more and feel more comfortable while doing it. I like what you say about being my best self no matter what others say. I am my priority now and I am giving myself back to me!

Always have a blast dancing. Keep your knees aligned with your ankle as much as possible. And if it hurts, don't do it. Modify the move.Ask the teacher to help with this. When some weight comes off (and it will with persistance, consistancy, and wanting to be the best self ever no matter what others say), your knees will be able to do more. Make yourself a priority!! I know you will succeed at your goals, and Zumba is such a fun way to get there. I never liked working out until I discovered Zumba a few months ago, and the pounds are dropping away. Keep at it, and you will get there!
Just make sure to wear light flexible shoes - I learned this the hard way the first time I did Zumba. I wore my regular cross trainers, and my knees were so stiff the next day - OUCH! Now I wear a pair of light dance sneakers, and it makes all the difference. It allows me to slide and glide much easier because there is less traction on the bottom of the shoe (I have carpeting at home).

Hi, I just wanted to introduce myself as I have just started doing Zumba, I also wanted to be accountable and to share my success with someone(s). Currently my weight is 253 pounds so Zumba is a little sketchy on the knees but I am trying to be very careful. I have just started, have only done it a few times but since joining this forum I will be doing it more often. I look forward to share my successes with you all!
