6 pounds in 2 weeks is great Misscurvy!!!! Yeah if u wait awhile now to weigh urself this way u won't disappoint in urself just in case u don't lose that much in a short time u know? I needto remember to stick to one scale too. At first I was going between like 3 scales which can be very inaccurate. The nice motivating part about going to an actual class in stead of doing at home. Is the instructor will change song when she wishes. U cud do that at home too. but u the teacher has control over it so u don't get sick of them all right away.

Its funny that you mention about becoming a Zumba instructor, because strangely enough, the thought has crossed my mind a time or two already, even though I'm still very much new to all of this. I guess because I love to dance anyways, that's what attracts me to this form of cardio. But like you mentioned, I would want to be in much better shape before even attempting anything like that. At some point I would like to sign up for a class to see if I enjoy it at much as working out at home. I think that might also give me clues on if becoming an instructor would be a good fit for me ...its crazy for me to even think about....me a fitness instructor?!? I have never even enjoyed working out! Life definitely throws some interesting twists and turns at you. :-)

How long did it take for you to become certified?

Congratulations to everyone on your weight loss successes! About a year ago I got down to my pre-pregnancy weight (from 22 years ago). It is a continuous process. I am not on a diet - I changed my lifestyle. I weigh everything I eat so that I don't fall back into bad habits. I learned over a year ago that I wasn't eating enough. I thought I was. I never felt hungry but my body thought I was starving. It was hanging onto everything I had put into it. Once I increased my calories the weight started shedding. I am stronger now than I was in my teens. I wish I had had the guidance then to know what I was doing to my body. I didn't know that my body would eat away at my muscle if I wasn't eating enough to fuel my system. Please make sure you eat enough healthy calories to fuel your body so that it eats the fat and builds the muscle. If you are having a hard time motivating yourself to do strength training - try doing it for 10 minutes after your Zumba class. You'll get the biggest bang out of your efforts because you'll have a calorie burning boost from the cardio workout.
Welcome to the Zumba party! It's a fabulous place to be.

6 pounds in two weeks! WOW! Take it and run. Keep doing what makes you happiest right now. There will come a time when you'll need to change things up a bit for either fun, to get over a plateu, or to improve your health. Let it come to you. Consistency is very important right now and it will mean the difference between suceeding or not in the long run. Maybe you'll want to be a Zumba instructor? I love doing this and always wanted to from the first time I trid Zumba. That also keeps me going. I think it's better to be a fit and trim Zumba instructor than a large one, even if you can move excellently. Thant's just my opinion.

Be well,
Beth

15 pounds in one month - that is awesome StepharoniI! Its hard to lose so much in just a month - are you doing any type of other workouts, or just Zumba? I've been trying to do strength training 2-3x a week, but I find myself just wanting to do Zumba, and not much else...so I'm going to have to work on that! LOL I think I hate doing ab exercises the most...its so hard! Lol

Ok, so I said I was going to wait a month before weighing myself...but, I got impatient and just couldn't wait. So I weighed myself last Saturday and have lost almost 6 pounds in 2 weeks. I'm really happy and hope things keep moving in this direction. And hopefully I stay interested and will want to continue with Zumba! So far, so good! :-)

Right now I am struggling with the new WW program. My weight seems to be creeping on slightly despite the fact that I write everything down and count points and keep track of excersise points. I'm not deterred, however. I have too many new clothes that I do not want to grow out of and I really like myself small, so my motivation is strong. When losing I'd focus on the next pound only on the scale, when I got there, I'd look to the next one down and so on. I finally feel like the person I thought I was.

Thanks so much for the encouragement - my biggest problem is sticking to anything (diet & exercise) for longer than a month or two. I still haven't figured out how to overcome that. What did you do to keep yourself motivated in the long run? Or will there always be points in life where you fall off, but just pick yourself back up again?

Thanks so much for all the advice, I really appreciate it - I'm not on WW, but have cleaned out my fridge and cabinets of anything that could get me off track. Lots of veggies, fruits and lean meat, and lately have started eating beans again on days that I want to go meatless. I'm trying to do a few days without meat, and few days with meat to keep my body confused. I'm going to weigh myself in about a month, so I'll be able to see how Zumba and my diet are doing. I was using my treadmill, but it has gotten to the point where I'm very bored with it and the time seems to drag whenever I use it. Zumba has definitely given me a nice change of pace.

Miss Curvy, It took me 1 year and four months to lose 30-32 pounds. My goal has been to maintain the 30 since last Halloween. I was doing really well on Weight Watchers until the new program started and then I've seen tiny increases through January. I think the 29 daily and 49 weekly are just too much for me, so I'm still trying to find my correct formula. I've kept off the 30 but would like to lose 2-4. I excersise almost ever day, teaching Zumba 4x and Zumba Toning 2x a week plus going for personal training 30 min. 2x aweek (with a friend). I generally rest on Fri and Sat. I eat and drink practically whatever I want, but just small amounts. I try to pay attention to my tummy when it's satisfied, not full. There's always another meal, I tell myself. And it's ok to feel a little hungry. Have your fridge stocked with good veges and fruits, and get rid of the processed junk. Excersise really helps while you're trying to lose weight. But you must watch what goes in. Are you doing WW?

Hi all, I'm new to the team and to Zumba...I just purchased it about a week ago for the Playstation 3, and really love it so far! I have a question for TheSaneOne - how long did it take for you to lose the 30 pounds? My goal is to lose 35 pounds, so any encouragement is definitely appreciated! I been doing Zumba almost every day for the past week, so I want to know that my hard work isn't in vain. Lol :-) Thanks!

Keep going to Zumba and Sparking, and you'll be good to go! It's not just the exercise, it's the whole lifestyle package, but having a great time exercising is a great way to keep doing it!

I've lost 30 pounds. They ask me how I did it. I say 1)Weight Watchers, 2)Zumba, and 3)Personal Training for two 30 minute sessions a week. It's ok to be hungry, there's always another meal and never eat to the overstuffed feeling we're used to. You will be golden.
