Hi everyone,

My name is Jennifer. My quit date is Tuesday 3/13/12. My doc has me on Wellbutrin and told me to take it for a month before trying to quit to get blood levels up. I started smoking when I was 16 and I'm 40 now so it has been awhile. I am looking forward to being smoke free.

Hello! My name is Natalie from Boston, MA. I just joined spark & I'm feeling very motivated. I quit smoking 50 days ago (YAY!!! but yes, I'm still taking it 1 day at a time) and have gained 8 lbs since. I refuse to let myself get sucked back into smoking again but the weight gain is making it very difficult. emoticon
Here's to staying strong on my non-smoking path & losing all the weight I have gained (which I had already lost... *sigh*)!!!!!

Hello everyone :D
My name is Janessa, I am from Idaho and my quit date is in 2 days. I am extremely excited. I honestly have no idea why I even started smoking.

You must begin to think of yourself as becoming the person you want to be.
You must do the thing you think you cannot do.
Your goals, minus your doubts, equal your reality.
You're never beaten until you admit it.
You've got to say, I think that if I keep working at this and want it badly enough I can have it. It's called perseverance.

emoticon Tammy and Michelle! So happy to have you both with us.. Remember take one day at a time, drink plenty of ice cold water to remove those toxins and do whatever is necessary to protect your quits. In the beginning it's helpful to have patience with yourself, you didn't develop this habit over night so it won't go away over night either.
Never quit quitting

I just found this site today. I'll be 43 this year and have decided that it's about time that I get healthy and start "living life loudly". Quitting smoking is a huge part of that. My doctor has me using filters to cut down on the nicotine and then switching to the lowest dose of the patch. I'm on the final filter now which removes 75% of the nicotine (and I was smoking ultra lights anyway). Next weekend I move to the patch. Nervous and excited - and also happy to have found this community.

Hi Tammy and emoticon to Classy Q's!!! emoticon on your first 24 hours of being smoke free! It isn't easy but it is doable! Please be careful not to try and achieve two majoy goals at once. It is an easy way to set yourself up for failure. Get a good quit under your belt and move onto healthy eating plan and exercise routine!!! Not saying don't eat healthy, just don't put too much on yourself while trying to quit! Quitting can be stressful enough! emoticon Join in the chat in The Cafe', all the regulars are there pretty much daily and can offer yoiu a lot of support and encouragement for quitting and for a healthy lifestyle!!! emoticon

emoticon Ashley emoticon on setting your quit date. Hop right into the café and introduce yourself to everyone. They are all very helpful.
Are you using any NRT? Remember to drink plenty of water emoticon it helps flush out those toxins we've been inhaling, I also found gum and hard candies very helpful to fight off those craves.
Just remember to take it one day at a time. emoticon

Also write a list of all the things you will do when the craves hit. That helped me a lot!! Please go the The Café' and chat with the other team members daily, it will help! Good luck on your journey to be free of the icksticks! Lastly jump into the threads to keep those fingers and your mind busy! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Welcome Yvonne! I hope your quit goes easy for you although I know it will be harder with your hubby smoking. I am going to try again today too. I only have a couple of cigs left and I have been coughing all night and all day. Maybe we can quit together:)

Hello everyone. My name is yvonne and I am trying to quite smoking and lose weight at the same time. I have only been smoking for the last 4 1/2 years. I had stopped smoking before but I fell back into it. I am wanting to quite not just for health reason but for the money part of it too. I am a mother of three boys and it would be better for them too. My only think that is really making this hard for me is my hubby smokes and the cravings. Anyway, I am hoping to get to know you all. And getting the help I need to be a quitter for good.

I am eagerly anticipating my START TO QUIT day! I quit for 4 years and then started back up about 5 years ago.(Stress, poor excuse) Quitting before was for my young children. This time, it's for ME! I have plans to first get down to what I weighed in high school, 24 years ago!! I only have 4 more pounds to go! I would like to weigh 110 because I am well aware my body will gain a few when I quit, and I feel it is a range I can live with (110-120). I have been actively exercising for about 9 months now, but running is something I've avoided because..well.... I SMOKE! After I quit, I will continue my exercise AND I will run~ something I've never done in my life. My goals for 2012 are to run a 5K (I've only ever entered a walk/run before), then a 10K, then a half marathon... then I am DYING to do the Warrior Dash, followed by the grueling TOUGH MUDDER!! Big goals for a little lady.... but I"m gonna be a BADASS BEAST!!! and a nonsmoking one at that!! ! emoticon emoticon

Remember to drink plenty of water, ice cold it's amazing how it curbs those craves. Hard peppermint candies also helped and deeeep breaths.

Hi, my name is Laura and I am trying to quit smoking! Have been a pack a day smoker for about 20years now. And now it is time to be done with it....not healthy and tooooo expensive. But it is not easy giving it up...it is like my blankie! It comforts me. I just started on SP a few days ago and am working on weight and cholesterol...figured it was time to throw away the smokes too! Glad to find a support group.

It's time to make a change!

emoticon to Classy Quitter's sue and Lady Tress!! Quitting is the hardest thing to do! I too smoked 2 packs of sickerettes a day for over 35 years. It is not an easy basttle to quit but it is doable if you REALLY want to quit and you are well armed to do so!!! I say, make that list Deb spoke about and also make a list of what you will do when the craves hit! Then put it into ACTION!!! If a crve hits, grab your list and follow it, it will work, I've been there done that and after 3 years I still do! We are addicts people, we crave nicotine and probably always will! Once you make the decision you need the support from all around you and this team. I still come here for support and inspiration. I have quit many times and always pray this is my forever quit! Make it yours too and come here daily for that support. This is somewhat like a war with the NIcodemon, don't let him win though!!! Beat the crap out of him and come out on top! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

I read that book too awhile back, and it really does help, but it seems I always go back to smoking! I tried Chantix, but it made me really sick but I know a few people that have tried it and it worked beautifully for them. I just have to make up my mind to quit and then stick to it!

emoticon Lady! We have all been there, we know it's bad for us yet we keep doing it. I think starting off with a list of pros and cons is a great idea. Keep that list with you at all times and look at it often. You are stronger than this addiction. emoticon

emoticon Lady Tressa.....( love your name)

I did not do well with patch, gum, zyban, and champix. So I read and listened to Allan Carr's book the Easy Way to Stop Smoking. Give it a try. Hope journaling and picking a quit date, etc leads to success.

Blessings,

Tee

hi I am Lady Tressa
I have to quit smoking, I have alot of good reasons to quit like copd, asthma and now diabetes type 2. But I can't seem to quit. I have tried the patch, gum, zyban and champix. I think I will start a diabetes challenges journal, and include smoking in it, you know make a list of the pro's and cons, find out why I hang on to smoking. Pick a quit date, and try and stick to it. I don't know, I will read the tips and see if I can find some to help me. I am happy there is a spark team for quitting. emoticon

That first step is always the hardest. I'm a list keeper, maybe writing yourself a list of all the reason you want to quit and little rewards for yourself as you succeed would help you. First thing to do is get rid of temptations

Thank you for your response, FUTUREYOGI, I will join you in the quitters cafe. I have to figure this thing out and stick to it! My problem is that I am all determined to quit one minute, then smoking again the next. I just don't know how to make myself stick to it.

Sue, it is nice to meet you and I am so sorry to hear about your recent diagnoses. I wish I could tell you something that would help motivate you to quit but there is no magical thing to say. You have to want it and you have to believe that you can beat this addiction.
Yes, quitting is hard but I must say it is sooo worth it. Join us in the Quitters Café and you will find many people that will help and support you that know exactly what you are going through in your quit. emoticon I wish you the best

Hi my name is Sue, and I have been on sparkpeople for about a year. I have recently been diagnosed with lung cancer and am waiting on getting a biopsy. It is in my liver and lymph nodes under my arms.
I have smoked for 46 years. At 13 years old, I was smoking a pack a day. When my daughter was born, 37 years ago, I started smoking 2 packs a day. I was diagnosed with emphysema and asthma almost 5 years ago and cut down to a pack a day. You think that would be enough to make me quit, but I have been trying everything- the patch, welbutrin together, the lozenges, the gum, the electronic cigaretter, freedom from smoking class, Zyban, etc...
I have even read a few good books about quitting, and I still smoke.
Two weeks ago, when they told me I had lung cancer, I did cut down to 2 cigarettes in a day plus a few puffs here and there. I have not heard anything about the biopsy, and I have no insurance so each day that goes by, I worry more and smoke more. I have been going to the county clinic, and I am afraid that since I don't have insurance, they are not going to follow up with the biopsy or treatment soon enough.
It is already spreading, so I would think that they would do something immediately-but it is county, so it may be months before I hear from them again.
If anyone can help me get motivated and stay motivated to try and quit again, I will greatly appreciate it! thank you, Sue
