Hi Stacey and emoticon You have every reason to quit. I know exactly what you mean by hating the ick sticks. It is an evil habit and one that eventually kills us one way or another! You have joined a smaller, more intimate and very supportive team. I came to this team to quit about 15 months ago. I was smoking two packs a day and had been at it for about 35 yrs. I really planned for this quit and I KNOW it is my forever quit! Please take some time and read the links that another team member put on our team page. They are all invaluable. Are you going to use any aids to get you through the rough spots? Please come here often, go to the "When is/was your quit date" and let us know your date. Also we have a ton of games to keep your mind and fingers busy. EVERYONE is friendly and supportive and will help in any way they can!If you need anything please ask! emoticon on making the best decision of your life! emoticon

Hello Quitters!
My name is Stacey. 32 yr old smoking asthmatic. Been smoking for 18 years. I need to quit before I give myself COPD or Emphyzema. I have a great 3 pack a day smoker husband, who is pretty scared to quit. I have quit for a few weeks several times this year but for some reason that 3rd week gets me every time! I hope DH will quit after I do because it is not easy to stay quit with him smoking all over the place even though I repeat all the reasons I need to quit, they can just be to tempting. At any rate, I am totally over smoking and I literally hate smoking every cigarette I smoke, and it's purely the addiction and the habit that keep me doing it.
I am looking forward to getting to know the team and all the support you have to offer!

Shierry~Your introduction touched my heart. I also have a lot of excuses and truely understand why I have been heavy for a lot of my adult life. YOU and your children are absolutley beautiful. YOU deserve to be happy & healthy!! I had to take total control of me and my children's(4) lives about 20 yrs. ago. That is when things came into perspective for me. I could take charge and really shape and change our lives for the better. Sounds to me like you are ready to get into the driver's seat amd MAKE IT HAPPEN. Shierry I believe that you have the spirit to do this, with the right kind of support you can lose the weight and still quit the ick sticks. Come to this team often and play the games, chat in the Cafe', and make new friends that will assist in the quit! I say..... emoticon to you for making the steps to achieve your goals!!!! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Hi my name is Shierry. I am 33 years old and I will turn 34 on December 29th. I am a Capricorn and have open spiritual beliefs. I have 2 beautiful girls, Crystal who is 13 and Jessica who is 8. Both are healthy and have been my inspirations. I am trying to be the best role model for them that I can be.

I have had so many excuses to be fat. Here are just a few:
~Low self esteem ~ I am not worth being health or beautiful.
~I have no will power.
~Severe depression since I was young.
~My husband is cheating on me for the past 3 years.
~Sexually abused from 2 years old - 16 years old be various men some of which were supposed to keep me safe from the world like my stepfather.
~As long as I am huge then no man will want to be with me and I won’t have to be hurt by them any more.
~It has been my safety net for as long as I can remember. If I am huge then I can present myself as being able to take care of myself physically. (worked great while I was a correctional officer)

I have a few reasons for getting healthy too…
~I want to be around when my girls grow up and have families of their own.
~I want to set better examples then my mother did.
~I want to be able to walk around the block without feeling like I am DIEING!!!
~I want the confidence to do anything.
~I want to sit comfortably in seats at the movies and other places that forget that not everyone is a size 10 or smaller.
~I want to know that I can be the woman that the Universe wanted me to be from the beginning
~I want to be healthy.
~I want to be happy.

I am planning on the following things (starting June 29th 2009)
~Quit smoking (cold turkey)
~Watch what I eat and log it on Spark people.
~Drink 8 glasses of water a day
~Walk for 30 minutes daily (rain or shine)
~Journal daily and post a blog daily.
~Take a daily vitamin
~Read something to enrich my spirit daily
~Involve my girls for support
~Only weight myself once a week (every Monday morning)

Hi Nan and emoticon to this wonderful and supportive team! I think you are tackling this in such a positive and great way. You are joining us at good time since you have some stressful times coming up. My suggestion about the stale smoke odors is, get the coats to the cleaners if you can. I cleaned everyhting in the closets that smelled, I had my car detailed and cleaned. Febreeze is a wonderful idea. Please read the links on the team page. One of our quitter's, Susan, spent a lot of time entering very good articles and sites that can help you. Please jump right into the threads, we have a number of games to keep your mind and fingers busy and we always start the day with breakfast and chat in the Quitter's Cafe'!! My best to you and you can do this, we will support you all the way!!! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Hi there! By way of Trudy I am joining the classy quitters club. My name is Nan and I quit nearly three years ago with a few on and off bad days..maybe three total in that time.

I am moving to another state and to another job on Friday and of course all the preparation is driving me batty to say the least.

I cannot tell you how badly I want a cigarette and how badly I don't want to start up again..it's the nerves bit. So this time, on Monday afternoon I went to my physician, also a former smoker and she prescribed Wellbutrin instead of Chantix and also told me to keep handy cinnamon gum and sugar free cinnamon hard candy along with OTC Exedrine for Migraines...ugh...I will be a regular in here for a while I think.

In packing I have run into a unique problem..some clothing I will need for cold weather still smells of smoke...what if anything do you all do to get rid of the stale smell of smoke..do you use febreeze or do you have any particular tricks...I am trying my best to get as much smoke smell out as possible...it only makes me that much more tempted and of course do not smell very good either...any suggestions.

While I have not nor plan to have another cigarrette, I am going to have another official start date..this Friday..the day I leave...I guess in a way to try and pre-empt going back to this addiction I seem to have.

Thanks Trudy for your help and in advance to all others...additionally congrats to all who have quit and count the minutes, days, hours, weeks, months, and finally years...

Take care,
Nan

Hugs Always,
Nan

I am at the end of my pay check Pay period and money LOL and nest two checks go to rent so this is a good day to quit! I have 6 ciga left -- I am going to smoke them today and after I smoke the last one I am going to start cleaning away all the paraphenalia and the smoke smell from my apt, my clothes and my car. When I get up in the morning will be a fresh start. For some reason it makes me feel very nervous to say I am going to do this!

At least being at work will help instead of make it worse. All my previuos jobs people would take smoke breaks outside. It's funny how you can say I'm taking a smoke break and it is allright with everybody-- But if you are just taking a little break with now cig it is seriously frowned on.

Where I work now we get 30 min luch break and no others - no one takes smoke braks -- isn't allowed so I will not be tempted by the option or the invitationa of work friends who are more that willing to give you a cig if you don't have one so they will have company on their smoke break!! The big hurdle will be when I go back to work on Wed and I get off and have to go to the bank inside wal-mart to cash my check and make it all the way home without stopping to buy cigs. It is apattern and one I know I have to break. Maybe while I am at Walmart I will buy that dcinnamon candy in place of the cigs!! I love sinnsmon!!

Thanks

Camil

Camil. emoticon to the team. I just celebrated 2 months this weekend and I know how you feel about the car, it's still one of my toughest times but I keep sucker with me all the time and I have one when I get those cravings. (Dum Dum suckers only have 10 calories a piece) It has really helped me. Good luck and we all know that you can DO IT.

Camil~The car can be a real trigger! It needs to be cleaned out too! Try replacing the ick stick with a cinnamon candy. Cinnamon is supposed to have a chemical effect on the crave center of the brain. When you get in the car have it ready and stick one in your mouth. Hopefully it helps for 2 reasons. It will help with the old habit and create a new one!!!! Once you have a quit date please enter it under the thread "when is/was your quit date". We want to cheer you on and then celebrate your accomplishment!!!! YOU can do this Camil!!!! Make sure you go to the links on the home page and do some reading and research, it will only help enhance your quit! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Thanks,
My Dr told me the same thing about being completely ready to quit. she said I need to get rid of ash trays and lighters etc My worst trigger is driving. I smoke more while driving -- Getting in the car means lighting up! I know I need to find an alternate activity to substitute for smoking while I drive but I am at a loss.

Hi Camil and welcome to Classy Quitters. You picked a great team to do your quit with. This is one of the most awesome teams on Spark the people are so caring and wonderful. You have to really want to quit to be able to do it successfully. I have found that eating cinnamon candy, drinking ice water, deep breathing and doing aerobics helped me the most but everyone is different. So set a quit date, get yourself prepared and let us help you get through this. I look forward to getting to know you. Hi I'm Camil, I want to quit smokingI started smoking again after 25 years of no smoke.. My son who was 18 got arrested on a drug charge - never in any trouble before - great kid hard worker -smart. first offense plea to simple possesion. Atty said he would get probation -- he got a five year sentence - six months to be served in boot camp and the rest on parole. I started smoking to relieve the stress and axiety. I was having luch once a week with my 2 best friends who smoke like fiends!! and now I can't quit! its been several years and I am now smoking about a pack a day!

Alright more tha you needed to know LOL. But I need to say it and be held accountable somehow. I go fro a few days without smoking and I am ok and then it is like my addiction just takes over and I am on a mission to get cigs. I am wonderful at rationalizing that I will just smoke one more pack and THEN quit.

Please help I need to get my brian right on this subject so I can see clearly what I am doing to myself.

I know how bad it is. bothof my parents and two of my sisters died young of cancer. I have health issues and smoking makes it worse but I can;t seem to feel determined about it.

If you read this far LOL Thank you -- I could use some insight and feedback

hope you are all having a beautiful weekend. It is the Summer Solstice you know. Go out and worship nature a little emoticon emoticon emoticon

Hi Gina & emoticon You have made the best decision for your life! I know exactly what you are talking about as far as food on the mind. I quit last September and did gain weight. My main concern and focus was to quit smoking and then concentrate on the weight issue. I am now starting to take it back off. Depending on who you talk to, it doesn't have to be that way! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon I suggest you drink a lot of ice water, suck on cinnamon candy(supposed to help with the craves), take a walk when you are craving, have low fat snacks on hand, read the links on our team site. Are you using an aid for quitting. are you connected to the site why quit?. There is so much help out there Gina for those who want to quit!! As Roni said...jump into the games to keep your mind and fingers busy! Also, we have a panic room...if you find yourself needing extra support just let us know, we would be very happy to help!Again welcome and good luck, you CAN do this! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Hi!
I'm Gina and today I stopped smoking. So far it hasn't been to bad. My real test will come in about 1hr when I make my hour long commute home.

I know this will sound weird, but my mind has decided to think about foods to eat...I haven't! Was wondering if anyone has suggestions on how to get it to stop. I've been chewing gum but I already was a huge gum chewer.

I'm just taking 1hour at a time.

Hi Jenn~ emoticon to the team. Please use the links on the team page for a TON of information on quitting. I suggest the Allan Carr book which can be read on line. Many of our quitter's have said this is the book that made their quit successful!Make sure you have a good plan in place and that you are truly ready! We will be here for you and support you through the quit! Are you using anything to assist you in the quit?? I used the patch! I also ate a ton of cinnamon candy. My advice about the weight and food thing is......continue eating a healthy diet and exercise. When you find yourself reaching for food, go for a walk, spark away, play the games on this team, drink lots of water and juice is also supposed to help!!! If you have any more questions please just ask. We want you to succeed!!!! emoticon emoticon

Hello,
My name is Jenn and I am trying to loose 21lbs by July and another 30 by Christmas. I want to be smoke free by the end of summer and convince my husband of the same. I figure it's easier if we do it together. If anyone has any helpful ideas to help quitting without reaching for junk food, it would be appreciated (btw - I chew gum all day long already :))

Hello my name is Chelle.

I haven't quit yet but I am planning on doing it in the next couple of weeks.

I've tried pretty much everything and now I'm trying something else. Someone recommended Allen Carr's book so I thought I'd give it a try. I also have the NDS game.

Hi, I'm Zelda. This Friday, May 1 will be my first smoke-free day in about 7 years. I'm looking forward to it. And glad to know there's a team to help me when I need it.

Hi LaDonna~Hope you are getting through this day without too much difficulty! Old habits die hard, but you can do it. Who in there right mind wants to go through the withdrawals all over again. I also used the patch and cinnamon candy! Drank lots of ice water too. Deep breathes to get through the craves! You can do this my friend! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

LaDonna, I would suggest some cinnamon gum or atomic fireballs... For some reason the "burn" of cinnamon really helps stave off the cravings. And if it's gum you can chew the heck out of it if your craving peaks!
Try visualizing your cravings as a hill, each one you get over makes the next one smaller and no two are ever the same. Before you know it you'll be on level ground, moving forward with your healthy lifestyle!
And congrats! You are on days three! This is typically the hardest day for cravings...your days should get easier and easier after this one! So hang in there!

Good morning everyone. I'm on day three and so far everything is going along pretty smoothly except for the evenings. I am really struggling but making it through. Any suggestions are more than welcome. I'm using the patch and lollipops, they seem to help with the worst. I smoked for 32 years so I realize this is not going to be easy. Thanks to everyone and to any advice.

Welcome LaDonna and Trudy! Congrat to you both in deciding to quit!
Post away as much as you need to to get all your information, or if it's to just get through a craving!
Trudy...I tried Chantix and it worked for me once, but then not the second time. But I know if I had stuck with it the first time, it would have worked. Hope it helps you!
LaDonna, are you using any sort of quitting plan or are you quitting cold turkey? I quit cold turkey this last time and it's going great...95 days now!
Please, both of you keep up posted on how you're doing and how you're feeling!

Hi LaDonna~First, congratulations on your decision to quit. Welcome to the team and please take advantage of the links on the main page. There is a ton of information there and a lot to educate you! Are you using any quitting aides? I used the patch. There a lot of games to play to keepo your mind and fingers busy. Drink lots of ice water, especially when a crave hits. I sucked on cinnamon candy a lot. It is supposed to help chemically with the craves. Do whatever it takes to get through the crave. They only really last approx. 3 minutes. If I can help in any way please let me know. Please post your quit date in the quit date section and also post your birthday. We love to celebrate on this team! Jump right in and find your way around! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Hi Trudy & emoticon !! I am so glad you made this decision! You have come to a great team with lots of support and fun. Please read some of the links on the main team page. There is a ton of information in those links to assist you with your quit. Chantix has helped a lot of peole quit. As long as you are taking the prescription and you have NO side effects it is a great cessation aide! I used the patch for my quit!

We have a lot of games to keep your mind and fingers busy. Jump right in and enjoy!!! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Hello everyone. My name is Trudy. I have been on SP for 3 months and have lost 19 lbs! I absolutely love SP! I have made so many wonderful friends and learned so much about myself. I live in Tennessee and am 55 years old, live alone with my Shih Tzu Lucy, have 2 daughters, 37 & 33. They also offer me a great deal of support. I work as a Coder/Biller at a Surgery Center.

Since beginning this weight loss journey back in January I have changed so much as far as eating better (no fast food at all) and am "walking to get fit".

With that all being said, I want/need to quit smoking! I have been a smoker all of my adult life and I am just over it! I will be seeing my family doctor Monday, April 20, for my regular 3-mo-cholesterol check, and plan on asking him for a prescription of Chantix. I know, I hear a lot of pros/cons about this medicine, but I am going to give it a try.

I HAVE SET MY QUIT DATE FOR MAY 1ST.

So, please, wish me luck! I look forward to getting to know all you Classy Quitters. emoticon
