OMG, BUSY! It just seems between working full time, teaching part time, and keeping up the home/puppy/marriage, the days are just flying past. I'm also taking a gardening class through the Peaceful Belly in Hidden Springs (terrifying...), so that eats into the alone time, too.

There's a great xeriscape/native plant nursery called Draggin' Wing farm. I made a list of the plants I want to put in our yard. They're all native/low water/perennials, so you can basically plant 'em and forget 'em. Their web site is GREAT: lots of plants and info on where to plant them (shade/partial sun, sun).

It looks like this weekend, Casey is finishing obedience classes, Kyle has a wheelchair basketball tournament, and we're having people over for the Final Four, and we'll hit Bogus one last time on Sunday; if next Saturday is nice, I'd love to meet up (I will purposely not book anything in the off chance the weather is nice!).

Haha...I totally hear ya on how depressing the time it takes for a Bonsi. I want something I can put on my table & have it look great NOW..not when im ready to retire! lol

Have you ever googled "xeriscape landscaping" it is hardscape landscaping and or plants that require very little water. I think its beautiful (& Easy!)

Things have been really good..slowing down finally. Taking a little study break between tests to 're-group" and relax a bit.

How have you been? Keeping busy?

I would still love to get otgether for a walk sometime now that the weather is getting nicer! Let me know what your schedule is - most of my weekend afternoons are pretty open!

We did! I found the bonsai to be incredibly depressing. 30-40 YEARS...that's longer than I've been alive and more patient than I could ever hope to be!

We decided to make our "yard" into a courtyard and mostly hardscape it. We got some good ideas for materials and a coupon for 20% off at Boise Pottery (I want to put in a fountain), so that was worth way more than the price of admission.

How's everything going?

Now i just need to figure out how to do that in my yard! I really liked the bonsai exhibit, those trees are so great! I just dont think i have the patience to wait years for them to look good!!

Gold's. I feel guilty that I haven't been working out as much lately, but first it was the funeral, then I was sick, and now I'm just busy! I'm taking an organic gardening class up at Hidden Springs on Wednesdays and though it's nice to get up there, it does make it hard to get to the gym. I REALLY want to be a morning workout person, but daylight savings has other plans for me...

It's funny you mentioned the garden show: the Groupon today was 2 adult tickets for $7, which is basically 2 for 1, so I got that.

Today's supposed to be sunny but windy, but it'll give us a chance to dry out a little bit. I've been sick the past week; about all I can do exercise-wise is swim.

Your welcome!! I hope you have a good time if you decide to go - I think Im going to try to make it out there one of the days!!

Hopefully with warmer weather coming the construction will speed up. We have some messy neighbors (who are not going through construction!) and I hate looking across the street at their junk! I take care of my house, I wish they would do the same ...lol

Man is this some crazy weather?! Everytime I think about getting out & getting my bike ready to ride...it snows or something! I cant wait to get out on the greenbelt & to camels back & military reserve, I think im getting cabin fever!

FABULOUS! Thanks for that! Our yard is an absolute disaster right now; they have the house next door framed but not sided, and they say it'll be another 3 weeks before we get things re-landscaped. There are random remnants of the fence strewn about, there's mud everywhere...it's very white trash! I can't WAIT until it gets cleaned up!

Hello! How have you been? I was looking at the poster for the Boise Flower & Garden show & remembered you mentioning doing lots of landscaping this year. Last year I went to the show & the displays were amazing - LOTS of great ideas! Here is the link if you are interested, I think its next weekend!

That would be great if the builders would pay for what they damaged...we are still dealing with our builder three years later for things they said they would cover lol good luck! Landscaping is so much fun to lol...no that must have ben some other crazy runner out there:) I usually go early mornings before most get out of bed ;)
Have a great weekend in mccall! My schedule is open the next weekend so we should make a plan to get together!

That's great--we'll have to see what the builder will cover (they DID tear up our lawn/sprinkler system), but I have expensive tastes so we'll probably have to cover a lot on our own. :0)

Say, not to sound stalker-ish or anything, but were you running down Pennsylvania yesterday around 5 with a tall-ish guy? I jsut some some runners on my way home and thought of you. We're heading up to McCall for the long weekend this week, but maybe we can hook up the following weekend!

I dont do much landscaping...buildings are more my "thing" lol...but I have an eye for design - i could always go to the nursery with you & help you pick out plants & group them together..etc..

Otherwise I know some great landscape design firms, but they are going to charge $$. Sometimes local nurserys can be a big help - I know the new-ish one on Latah Street called Cottage Gardeners ( http://www.cottagegardeners.com/services.p
hp ). They are doing the design & plantings on a project I am working on at work & I know they were much more reasonable in price.

How was skiing?? I hope you guys had a great time...one of these days I will get out there and try it!

We're in the same boat--we want really low maintainence/low water landscaping in our back (side?) yard, too. I think we could probably do it ourselves since it's so small, but we for sure need someone to draw out a plan to follow.

No problem :) Let me know if you end up staying in town...otherwise have a great time & we can get together another weekend - there wont be many more weekends you can ski this year!

We plan on doing a lot of landscaping this summer too! Low maintained stuff - lots of grass types of plants. I could definatly recommend some people to you - are you looking for someone to design it, or do the labor? Or both??

I was meaning to reply to your message but I've been REALLY busy lately!

We might go skiing at Brundage on Saturday, but I won't know our plans for sure until tomorrow (I'd love to take a walk with you, though!).

Things are SUCH a mess in our yard now since they've started construction on the house next door. They've taken the fence down, so Casey can't go out unattended (plus there are wires uncovered everywhere). I'm REALLY looking forward to when they get it finished so we can work on landscaping. Since our yard is so small, Casey's just anhilated it, so I just want to xeriscape it. Do you know of anyone good?

Yum! I could LIVE off of raspberries! It was so nice to see SUN this weekend (though I bemoan the warm weather for cutting short my season pass...grrr...)! I can't wait for spring, either! We live in Penn Square off of Park Center and Pennsylvania, and they're supposed to start building the house next to us. I hope they get it done before the weather improves TOO much so we can enjoy our yard instead of enjoying construction debris!

That gardening class sounds fun - I have such a brown thumb! This past summer we planted raspberries & strawberries, so hopefully this year we will get some fruit off them. My husband is great in the garden (prolly because he grew up on a farm) so he is good at babying it!...I just love to eat it :)

I wish we had family closer...everyone is in Iowa. I am trying to talk my sister into moving out here once she graduates college, but we will see :o)

This weekend (well Saturday) was so beautiful! I actually drug my butt out of bed and took Kobe for an early morning run - and man am I feeling it today!! I generally use the elliptical & spin bikes at the rec & my 'running muscles' have not been used for a while. I cant wait for spring to hurry up & get here!

You know, in three years, I think we've been about three times. We can just never seem to get our act together on a Saturday morning! I'm taking an organic farming class at the Peaceful Belly this summer, and from people I know who have taken it, you've got vegetables coming out your ears.

My parents live in Idaho Falls, but they're planning on moving here when they retire, and my sister and brother-in-law are going to move here when she's done with school. I can't wait to have them close by! Kyle's (my husband) family all lives in Montana, which may as well be another planet. We loved Missoula when we went to school there, but it's such a drag to go there now (it's a seven hour drive down highway 12). His family is even farther away in Whitefish, which is 10 hours away. It's too expensive to fly there (over $600 per person! last time I checked, it was in the contiguous U.S.!). I'm just kvetching because Kyle's grandpa is circling the drain and the only way to get to the funeral is to drive, which takes a full day. No fun (and I'd rather be here than Billings where they live...even farther away!). People just don't realize how good we've got it here!

I really need to get out and ski sometime...i am not the most coordinated person & i think that is what scares me! lol i enjoy the warm weather more anyways :)

We dont bike too much on hills...I do enjoy hills, but my hubby hates them, so we usually go out on Hill road

Thats so cool that you teach an online course!! I taught a computer class at ITT tech last year. I really enjoyed it, but it was just so time consuming (to do well) and have a full time job at the same time. I hope to teach again some day!

I LUV Pottery Barn!! I LOVE shopping for home decor...We went to Ikea last year & I had the best time...I think its a good thing Boise doesnt have an Ikea, lol...Id be broke!

II cant wait for spring to hurry up & get here!! Do you guys go to the saturday market downtown? We go almost every week. I love all the great produce & things they sell there! We always take our family there when they come to visit. Do you have family that lives close by?

Yup! We LOVE Bogus--It's so close, it has a lot of terrain, and it's cheap. If you can walk you can cross country ski (there are some nice trails around Idaho City), and it burns MAD calories.

Road bike=YIKES! I had planned to do the half Ironman last year, but I needed a decent bike so we each got a Specialized Allez Elite. The first time we took them out, we biked up Highway 20. I genuinely hate hills. There is nothing remotely satisfying or redemptive about them, so I've confined my biking to the Greenbelt on nice days.

In addition to my full-time job (I work for the state), I also teach an online class for the University of Montana and College of Western Idaho, so that keeps me pretty busy. It generates the funds to go on vacations, though, so no complaints on my end! My little brain was broken after I finished grad school, so it took me about three years before I could read a book for fun again. I'm much better now, so I can read for fun in the evenings (I'm reading Rick Steves Best of Europe now...we're going to Ireland in October and Venice/Greece next Memorial Day). I love to plan things. I've filled the wedding planning void by planning for trips.

I guess we're pretty active. In the winter, we ski, and in the summer, we hike and kayak.

I'm really tall (6'1"), so shopping is out of the question, The only place with stylish clothing for tall women is in England, so I'm only at the mall to get my Pottery Barn fix. I heart movies, too, and I LOVE spending time with Casey (what a guy!).

I have acutally never skiied!! I aquired a pair of cross country skiis, but I dont know anyone who goes...so Ive never been, but I really want to try it out. How about you? Are you a ski bunny?

My husband & I love to road bike. I cant wait for it to warm up so we can get out again!! I am just a wuss when it comes to cold weather. My other (winter) hobby is baking...I love to bake anything (&eat! lol) Right now I have been keeping busy studying. My hubby is going back to school & I am going to take my lisencing exams soon. Other than that I love any of the other girly stuff....shopping, movies, coffee.

What do you like to do to keep busy??

You know, it was easier than I thought to get back in the swing of things (probably seeing all those perfect bodies and then my flabby one, LOL!). We had a few social engagements last week, and I tend to let loose when out with friends/in the presence of beer.

Aside from running, what do you like to do? Any skiing?

Thats so good to hear! Vacations are usually great for your mind..not so much for your body! lol..I always have such a hard time getting back into my routines after vacation. The worst for me is soda - I never drink it at home, but when Im on vacation I seem to drink it like its going out of style & then i have to break that habit when Im back home

Boise Run Walk (http://boiserunwalk.com/) was a lot of fun..the ladies were really nice (few men). We would all meet on Sat mornings & have a little informal meeting that would cover topics/tips on running form, eating, stretching, etc.. then we would go on our run for the day, slowly building miles. The part that I didnt like was it was mostly walkers or very slow/beginner runners. I do not consider myself fast..but i was miles ahead of the group & had a hard time finding a 'running buddy' to keep pace with. There were a few, but they didnt show up every weekend. So, depending on your running speed it could be great.

I looked in to that "drinkers with a running proboem" group...it sounded like fun, but im just not a drinker so I didnt think it would fit me too well!

If youd be interested maybe you & I could meet up for a jog sometime this spring if you dont find a group that fits?

Portland is a great one for the first-time marathoner. There's only one big hill around mile 17, and then around mile 20, it starts a gradual decline to the finish line. There are live bands every mile, and I can honestly say I've never seen a more well-organized race, from the packet pick-up to the finish line (and it was cool and rainy, so you needed less fluids).

The thing that gets me about Robie is the incline...I think if you could do that, you could do a marathon, no sweat.

Tell me about the Boise run/walk group. I've heard about the Hash House Harriers (drinkers with a running problem...sounds fun, but maybe a little too rowdy for me...) and I know the Y has some groups. I'm not much of a joiner unless I know someone else in the group who can vouch that it's worth my time.

I would love to do a full marathon someday! Its on my bucket list.. Robie was my first (and only so far..) half marathon. I trained for it using one of the training plans I found online, basically slowly increasing my miles & then tapering at the end. What I think really helped me was I did a lot of cross-training during the week (long runs on weekends). I did spinning a few times a week & ran on the stepmill or would do intervals on the treadmill at 15% incline. I was so worried about all the 'up hill' running of Robie that I hardly did any down...and that ended up being the hardest part of the race for me! lol...but it was an amazing experience & I highly recommend doing it. I hope to do it next year, like you - I just dont think I have the time this year.

Oh yea, I forgot Casey is still so young! Our vet had me wait until he was about 9 months to run him..and i dont think hes stopped since! lol

this summer i joined the Boise Run/Walk group for fun...I wasnt training for anything, just looking to meet more ladies...but most everyone else was training for an event & it was a really fun to learn how they trained

I did the Portland Marathon last year, which was a really positive experience. Sometime, I'd like to do Robie, but I'm so busy these days I don't see myself putting in the time to train! I'm thinking about doing Spudman in July, but I think I'll stick with mostly 10ks since they're quick and fun.

Casey's breeder told us we shouldn't run him until he's two because their joints haven't formed fully yet and they're really prone to hip and elbow dysplasia (one more year!).

What did you think of Robie? I know it;s a right of passage here. What would you suggest if I decide to train for it?

I tried taking Kobe to the dog park once...he was too timid to play with the other dogs or run around much, he just stayed by my side (which is good i suppose!) the greenbelt on the other hand...hundreds of miles have been racked up there! lol He is a natural runner, so he and I run almost every day in the spring/summer...he even trained for Robie with me last year

I see youve done some running events - which ones? do you have any planned for this year? I bet Casey would love to train with you! :)

Cool!

We've never taken him to the dog park, and since I usually come home at lunch to walk him, he usually gets a jaunt around the block, but we take him for longer walks on the greenbelt over the weekend sometimes.

I do commercial architecture - healthcare mostly (St. Lukes is my main client) Luckily with computers not much math is required now :) You just have to know how to use a mouse! haha...its not the art it used to be with the beautiful hand drawings

Kobe is my "fur-baby"..usually cuddled up on someones lap. Do you take Casey out on the greenbelt often or to the dog parks?

Oh, wow! Do you do commercial or residential architecture? I wanted to be an architect when I was a kid until I found out math was involved :0(

One of our neighbors works at Micron--Ryan MacLane. Real nice guy.

What's your doggie's name? My little lad is Casey, and his is a miracle :0)

Oh wow, youve moved around a lot too! My husbands job brought us here after college (Micron). I was lucky enough to find a job in my field, Architecture...but I work will all men, so I know what you are saying abit it being hard to meet people once out of school - middle aged men are not the most fun sometimes lol :)

My dog is an Italian Greyhound.. He is about two - FINALLY out of the puppy stage & pretty well behaved. I had a Golden when I was growing up - great dogs! Tell your pup happy birthday, he looks like a sweetie!

I grew up in Idaho Falls, but I've lived in Chicago, Madison, WI, Portland, OR, and Missoula, MT before settling here. When we were finishing with grad school, my husband and I were looking at Eugene, OR and BOise, ID since they were similar to Missoula. There were no jobs for me (I'm in PR) in Eugene, and it ended up that we both had interviews in Boise the same weekend. I moved here about six months before Kyle did, so I feel like I made the move because it was the best choice for me and not because I was following a guy around the country. :0)

We LOVE it here, too! I felt like it took about two years to really get settled, since it's really hard to meet people once you're out of school.

Your profile pic has a dog in it. What kind do you have? We have a Golden Retriever, and he'll be one tomorrow!

Nope, I haven't been in Boise too long either - my hubby & I moved here about 2.5 years ago from Iowa. We love it here & are so happy we moved. It was defenatly a hard move to make, but now we are settled in & meeting people.

Where are you originally from? What brought you to Boise?

It was AWESOME. When I left, I was at 188.8; when I weigned myself yesterday, I was 195.2 (yikes!), and today, I was at 191.2, so I think you're right about the water weight.

Have you lived in Boise very long? We've been here just over 3 years.

That'd be great!

I TOTALLY want's ignoring you: my husband and I just got back from a week in Jamaica. Before I left, I lost about 9 pounds...and I gained about 8 of 'em back! GRRR! Oh well--I think I would have regretted it if I didn't take advantage of all the included food/booze!

At Gold's on Parkcenter. It's so nice over in SE...close to work, close to the Greenbelt, and lots of great restaurants which SHOULD be in biking distance!

Hi, all!

My name is Megan and I'm 28 years old. My husband, puppy and I live in Southeast Boise and we L-O-V-E it here! After our wedding in 2009, we've both become fappy: fat and happy. I have 35 pounds to lose, and in my first two weeks Sparking, I've lost 8.8 pounds! Woohoo!

I'm a bit nervous because we're going to an all-inclusive resort in Jamaica (LOTS of food!). I've set a reasonable limit: I can eat whatever I want if I limit myself to three drinks a day and I do at least 30 minutes of physical activity, be it swimming, kayaking, tennis or whatever.

I like to hike, geocache, kayak, ski and cook. I'm also super awesome at hanging pictures and organizing things. Well, Team Idaho, I can't wait to hear all about you!
