Sorry guys about not following through on the group page, sometimes I just don't check in and take care of business. Thank you lives4thetrail for taking over the group. I'll try to be more active but am happy to let you lead.
Speaking of active, I had a really great race this weekend. It was the Montana de Oro 25K trail race on the Central Coast of California. This may be one of the toughest 25K's around. It involves two major ascents. The first is sea level to the top of Valencia Peak, 1247 ft in about 5 miles. Then you come back down to sea level where you begin a second ascent of Hazard Peak, 1027 ft in about 5 miles. Very challenging single track for the most part with some of it very technical involving loose shale on steep climbs.
Turns out they had to re-measure the course after the race because of so many questions about the distance. Sure enough it measured 27K. Seems that the park had done some trail work since the last race and nobody double-checked the distance before the race. So my 4:14 27K turned out to be 3:55 for 25K, and my goal was to break 4 hours so I'll take that! May sound slow to many of you, but don't forget, I am 65 years old.
