Hi, My name is Margaret, I'm a home schooling mother of 7 children. All of them except one is finished with HS now and busy with their own lives.

I just joined this team today and I joined the spark in July but I am just now really getting into the web site for the first time. Using the tracking tools and checking out the teams etc. I am a 46 year old Catholic mom with four children two young boys still at home, one older son in college and one daughter who already graduated from college and has her own baby. I am looking forward to changing how I think and feel about food and even how I feel about me. I have started and failed so many times on this weight loss journey but this time I am doing it for ME.

Success seems to be connected with action. Successful people keep moving. They make mistakes, but they don't quit. -Conrad Hilton

Hi! I'm a SAHM to 4 beautiful children aged 10, 8 1/2, 4 1/2 and as of tomorrow, a one year old. My weight journey has been up and down, but I'm hoping to do it right this time, to live a healthy life to be the best for my children and for myself.

I homeschool for pre-K, but my older children attend public school. I've been a CCD teacher for 9 years, first teaching 7th grade, and now Kindergarten. I find it important to surround myself (and my family) with other Catholic folks to help us continue to live in the world while not being of the world, and am looking forward to chatting with you all!

Hi! I'm Sheri, mom to 7 amazing kids, ages almost-18 to almost-2 (birthdays next month!). My fantastic husband of nearly 20 years and I homeschool our kids. We're having a rough year (he lost his job and is going to school; I'm working part-time) but this is the year that I get healthy! I'm hoping that I'm able to spread the Spark to my entire family, but I'm mainly focusing on me.

Hi! I am a mother of 4, ages 2, 5, 12, and 13. I work part time out of the house, and overtime at home! I love my Church and am so excited that I get to be on this journey with fellow Catholics! Awesome! My kids all go to St. Mary's Catholic School and I have loved every minute of it. My oldest often tells me that she loves that she can pray for special intentions with her class. I do my best, with my wonderful husband, to raise them in the faith, but I need to be a good healthy example for them as well! That is why I am here! God Bless!

Hi, I am new to this team for a second time.

I have an adopted, Chinese daughter who is a real challenge to me. She has an anger issue and most times is defiant, both at home and in school. She is failing two major subjects (in the 6th grade). When I contacted the school to see if she could get extra help, I was told that until my daughter shows that she wants the help nothing will be done to help her. So they want me to stop calling or bothering her teachers or anyone else at the school.

I am praying that this upcoming school year my daughter will let me home school her. This year is her first year in public (government school as I call it) and she hates it. She does not like hearing about living a gay life as being "normal" or the Bible being a collection of myths or Jesus being a prophet. But this is what she is being taught. And when she talked about abortion as being murder, her teacher got very upset with her.

I took her out the Catholic school because my daughter starting coming home with bruises from being bullied. Several other children had bullying problems which were ignored too. Many children no longer go to the Catholic School for this reason.

Can you please pray that my daughter will be opened to my home schooling her?

Hello everyone! My name is Tracy. I am 51 years old. I am a homeschooling Catholic mom (20 yob in college, 17 yob just about to start college, and 13 yog) and I've homeschooled them all since kindergarten. My husband was ordained to the diaconate in January and we both wrapped up our masters degrees in pastoral studies in December. Yes, we live at church. We are both also chaplains for the Port of Houston and I am looking at hospice chaplaincy down the road a piece.

I have struggled for the last 10+ years with some sort of mystery problem that kept me from losing weight and frankly the growing frustration with that battle eventually kept me from any community sort of weight loss support. It got to be more than my less-surrendered self could handle when well-meaning people who knew nothing of my long term battle would say, "Well have you tried [DASH, journaling, weight-watchers, resistance exercise, more cardio, less exercise, more exercise, less calories, more calories, more veggies, more fiber, vitamins, etc. etc. etc.] Uh...yes. I've tried that. ALL of that.

What I hadn't tried was an elimination diet where you don't eliminate one thing at a time but rather pretty much everything that might be a problem. (JJ Virgin) Well HOWDY! It's working. And working to the tune of 11 pounds in 3 weeks. I've got 40, maybe 50 pounds to go. And the number of calories I am eating now would have previous caused me to gain weight. And maybe, just maybe, I might be willing to talk about it now without snapping someone's head off.

Do not be afraid, do not be satisfied with mediocrity. Put out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch. ~~ Blessed John Paul II

Hi,
I am a Catholic home school mom of 2 teenage boys. Hard to believe that they are now 15 and 17. I have had numerous health issues the last few years and my focus is to lose weight to get healthy. I would like to lose 70 pounds so it will be a marathon rather than a sprint. I look forward to being on this journey with all of you. Louise emoticon

Hi,
i am a Catholic homeschool mom to 2 teens and I have one that grad already.
I am a CCD teacher at our church for 6th graders.
I also help with for our HS youth and I am a mission team leader.
I was raised Irish Catholic.
Now onto my weight issues.
I found out that I am diabetic last May. Also spent all of last year in a great deal of pain until the end of the year when I under went 2 surgeries. I had a long recovery. Which means eating and down time... which means weight gain.
I am feeling much better now and am looking forward to getting back into a healthier body.

Hello Moms:

Living in the area that I do is very challenging. Most of the families here do not really know our Catholic faith. So they attend Protestant services which many of their children convert to. Consequently, I try to keep learning all I can about our wonderful faith.

My daughter is currently attending a Catholic school. However, she will be attending public school in the fall. I am confident I will teach her much more than her current school does about the Catholic faith. Plus I hope my daughter will not be bullied at the public school.

I truly need your support and help.

Howdy everyone,

Been with Spark for sometime and finally getting around to joining some groups. I am a mother of five, two in college, one in high school, one in middle school and one in elementary. Enjoy spark and look forward to talking with other Catholic moms.

I started on spark at 150 and now down to 133. 3lbs away from my goal. Did it all with walking on the treadmill and eating with the meal planning on spark. Praise God. emoticon

Welcome! WOW! 9 children. :) I have 2 but they are 17 years apart in age. You can do it! Losing weight does work with SP - even though it does work best when you work it. (I haven't been good at working it myself). My youngest is 11 months old and I haven't lost all of the baby weight yet. I know I can do it I just haven't done it. I'm challenging myself to lose 10 pounds before my birthday on 10/27! :) God bless.

Hello, I am a mother of 9, homeschooled 7, with two in college, raising four children at home. Three of my children are married now, blessing my husband and I with 11 grandchildren, one in heaven. I gained my weight with the last 6 pregnancies and nursing. I heard that nursing helped others to lose weight but it didn't help me, although that isn't the reason I nursed, it still would have been nice! I need to lose lots of weight and wish not only to be healthy but to be around to meet and bless all my grandchildren. My favorite saints are many! I am reading St. Theresa's Interior Castles, Lehman's book on the Love Languages of Teens and a small booklet on deification. My husband and I are taking catechist classes for certification (to teach) from our Parish. More reading there, so I'm up to my ears with books...and still not a saint! I joined Sparkpeople today and am looking forward to being a part of this group, thank you. Have a holy and blessed day! Oh, yes, and I'm up late because sometimes I have insomnia.

Hello Ladies! I was so pleased to find a team geared for Catholic Moms. I started out by reading "The Spark" book and today is my first day online. While I'm eager and excited to explore the site, this could occupy a lot of my time, which unfortunately, I don't have much of to spare. I'll need to really discipline myself.

I'm in my mid-forties with a 5th grade son and a 4th grade daughter. We don't homeschool, but we are friends with many homeschooling families and they let us "hang out" with them! I do hope to enroll our children into the local Catholic school for the 6th thru 8th grades.

My husband is impressed with my new enthusiasm about becoming healthier. He is already very physically active with Karate and running. I hope to be able to jog around our block without stopping to walk some day. Could I even jog a mile one day? We'll see.

I also hope to engage my son in some fun physical hobby. So far he hasn't found an activity he likes enough to stick with. His real love is legos.

I'm looking forward to interacting with you. Thanks for starting this group!

Hello ,
I am happy to say I have re-started up with sparkpeople and have found the site to be just the thing for me to gain both support for healthy living and prayer. I would describe myself as a happily married(23 years) mother of 2(one in college and one a Soph. in hs) music minister at my Parish as well as for end of life patients and active credentialed music teacher at a Catholic Elem school.
I celebrate the power of prayer and dedicate my motherhood to the precious unborn who need protection prayer always from the horrible holocaust caused by abortion clinics. Our whole family is quite involved in this crusade and I am happy to share info and dialogue regarding Prolife events and activism thru peaceful actions and prayer.
God Bless you all here and thank you for creating such a wonderful site.

They are inseparable when Kat is home. She absolutely adores her little sister - the one she has wanted all of her life - she has 4 half siblings through her father's family but they aren't close because they all treat her like an outsider and she is being forced to continue to live with them. Sometimes I wonder.

Suzan,

Congratulations on the baby! I am 18 years younger than my oldest sister too! There were 7 of us kids, one of my brothers died in 2005 but everyone else is still doing great and we love to get together still. (you can see a picture of my family on my blog page)

My oldest is 21 years older than our youngest who is going to be 2. I was worried that she would never get to know her brother very well because he would be gone from home. But this year as he takes time off from school for decernment she has become very close to him. I hope your daughter and baby get to be close friends eventually too.

Thank you for the kind welcome, I hope you have a wonderful Holy Week!

Welcome Annette! How busy you sound! Congrats on getting through all of those college years already. I have one who will be ready for college in 1 year (she isn't living with us right now but with her bio father - not by her choice and not happily) and one who will be 6 months old on the 26th of this month. Yes - you read that right - a junior in high school and a newborn - the junior is 18 years old. ;) I hope you find your path to weight loss filled with love and belief!

Hi I'm Annette and I am married and a homeschooling mother of 8. Right now I am homeschooling 2 high schoolers, 11 and 12th grades. Our oldest is a college grad, our second oldest graduates from college this year. 3rd is in college, then my high schoolers, one middle schooler and a 2nd grader at our parish school and the baby is going to be 2 in a month.

I like homeschooling, I can't say I love all the work. But I do get to know my kids very well and we have a lot of fun together. Our house is usually filled with the kids friends, mostly boys at this time. None of our kids are dating at this time. (one just broke off from a girl friend who was not treating him very well, Thank you Jesus!) We pray Morning prayer each morning at 6 am and my husband teaches math before he goes to work,

On my weight loss journey I have had ups and downs like everyone, my major heath issues are PCOS, High blood pressure, arthritis, low thyroid and bouts of Celiac since the birth of our youngest. I have also been taking prescription vitamin D. It helps but I wonder what the side effects are?

Our favoirite saints are St. Joseph, St Anthony, St Pio, St Anne, St Patrick, St Genevieve, St Lawrence, St Brigid, St Benjamin the martyr, St John Vianney and we are also waiting for Blessed John Paul II and Bishop Frederick Baraga. We have enthroned the Sacred Heart of Jesus in our home and we have a devotions to Mary, Schoenstatt and Our lady of Grace, and many more.

I play many stringed musical instruments and I sew, quilt, knit, crochet, love to cook and bake. I made Sugar eggs for Easter and we also do Palm weaving.

On my blog I have pictures of some palms that we wove last year.

I am so looking forward to this group. I feel like I know some of you already from reading your postings.

Blessings to you all!

Hi, I'm Virginia and a stay-at-home mom of two boys, ages 4 1/2 and 1 1/2. I am trying to homeschool, but I'm finding it hard to stick to a schedule, any advice would be welcome. I love being Catholic (converted 5 years ago) and continue to learn about my faith as I try to teach my children. I am currently trying to lose weight, get in shape and de-clutter my home. And that's just this week! Okay, just this decade... :)

Welcome Misty! It sounds like you have a plan set in motion. Right now I'm home with my new little one (12 weeks today) and I'm considering trying to really get my homebased business going or getting into a wedding/event planning business with a friend of mine. We want to hear how things go!

Hi my name is Misty. I am a married mom of a 3.5 year old boy, who is my pride and joy. I currently work full time as a public interest attorney. My husband has a home based business and is at home with our son and he attends preschool 2 days per week. When he gets school age I am planning to transition to having my firm at home and doing Catholic homeschool.

Hi everyone,
I'm Leanna. I'm a 50 yr old stay at home homeschooling mother of 5. Four still live at home. I also play the organ at one mass each week and teach our 2nd grade First Holy Communion class.

I'm looking forward to being a part of the group and to a weight that starts with a one.

Hello! I'm new to this last week and finally noticed the "spark mail" button and the welcome forum. I homeschool my children and my goal is to lose some weight and get in shape. I signed up last Monday night, and was in shock at how many calories my "small" meals added up to. I have now spent the past 6 days hungry, but I'm offering it up for the purity and chastity of my children (all currently under 12). I also just started the 28 day boot camp challenge. Hopefully, by spring time, I will be a more energized mom! emoticon

Welcome Lil_Bit_Crazy. Your statement does not sound vain at all! Remember one of the things we are supposed to do is to keep our bodies as a temple for the Holy Spirit and if we are not healthy we are destroying that temple. Keep us posted and we will keep you motivated. I'm needing it again too - I just had my little Sophie 10 weeks ago (tomorrow) and I've GOT to get back to being in shape. I'm miserable and that is a big issue for me. I lost 56 pounds just about 2 1/2 years ago and gained much of it back pregnant and now I've got 25 pounds to lose to get back to the goal weight where I was physically comfy - no pain in my legs and joints. We will keep you in our prayers.

Ok so I really hope that I am doing this right. I am seriously new to this.

I am a stay at home mom to a wonderful 4 year old girl with plans to homeschool her next year since she won't start "big" school until 6. I converted in 2008 and married into a large Catholic family. I love finding such peace in the Lord...

Anyway my goal is to get myself back into shape and looking like I did before I had my daughter. I know that it sounds like vanity but it's not..I was healthy and active then.
I really hope that I can find the support I need here and a little guidance.

I'm brand new here, as of yesterday. I'm a homeschooling mom of nine kids, six still at home. I also have three grandchildren. Three of my kids are young ladies who all have Down Syndrome. We live in central Florida. I love the Latin Mass (NOT saying that to start a debate!), but do not currently live near an LM church. So right now, the kids and I just worship at home. I'm realy glad to find a Catholic support group here! Marilyn

I've had some super supportive people and a few....not-so-supportive people. Luckily for me, the supportive ones far outweigh the ugly people!

No I was pretty blessed by the people who were around me. My parents worried that it would be an issue but because the people around me had been around me my entire life they took things at face value and knew that I was a good person and let me live my life. They are thrilled to death that I got married almost 5 years ago and that now I'm having another little one but they never judged me or tried to be ugly or rude. The thing I always loved is that they loved me!

Thank you for the warm welcome! I sometimes think it's doubly hard being a Catholic single mom because of judgmental people. Did you find that?

Believe - Welcome! I'm glad you have found our little group. I'm currently pregnant and due in about 7 weeks. I was a single mom though for almost 13 years with my daughter who will be 18 in December. I've been married just shy of 5 years now and we are a happy couple 90% of the time. We have our problems and such just like every other couple on the planet. Keep working hard and keep us posted on your progress!

Hi all! I'm A, I'm mom to a 2 month old boy that I call Guppy or Critter. I'm a "single mom" in that the daddy isn't around but I have a HUGE support network. I gained over fifty pounds while pregnant and was already overweight. I need to lose around 70 pounds to get back to a size 8, which I haven't been in about ten years but I know I can do it--for me and for him. I want to be able to keep up with him when he gets movin'! I've got a long history of an on-again, off-again relationship with Spark, but I REALLY want to be a hot momma by my birthday in May.

I've been back on Sparkpeople for almost 3 months now and just found this group. I am a stay at home mom with 4 kids ages 13, 12, 10, and 8. I am trying to lose 20 pounds for now...ideally I need to lose 40, but I am taking it one pound at a time. I have struggled with my faith in the last few years and am trying to find my way. I figured this would be a good place to start, seeing all of these women who have truly been touched by God. I know I am blessed and am thankful every day. Hopefully with prayer and help I can find my way.

Smiles are contagious...spread them! ;)
