Your welcome. ;) See, I am the same way, I try to get things that he likes but I don't in the house, and that way I am not too tempted, I may take a bite, but that's it. Like chips and salsa or potato chips, I'm not a huge fan of either (especially potato), but he gets those instead of pretzels or something that I would also eat. It works great! LOL

I remember the first time I went way overboard. My girls were making those no-bake chocolate/peanut butter/oatmeal cookies, and I hadn't had any of those ingredients in sooooo long! Anyway, I just took a big spoon and dug in, right out of the bowl, and kept going until I felt sick. You're right, I was miserable afterwards, and I haven't done it (to that extent!) since.
You had a great thought: I'm not a pie eater, either, but my hubby loves pie. I think we can do the pie thing and I'll be able to be good while not punishing him with no goodies at all in the house. Thanks for the idea!

It IS hard when that stuff is around. I am okay unless it is certain things, but my children are young and so they only eat what I give them (for the most part) anyway, so I don't have to deal with older kids making cookies. My hubby takes care to get things that he loves but I don't like as much (like pies rather than cookies). But amazingly I have been able to eat a bit of this stuff here and there. I too am a multiple cookie eater, but the first time I went over my amount I should have eaten, and I knew it, I regretted it immediately. So I hope I've learned from that to just stick to the bits. I have INSISTED to myself that I will eat within my calorie range, so if I eat those cookies, I will be miserable later. That helps keep me in control. The one night I went over, I was so hungry, I was eating cucumber and herbal tea at night and miserable. LOL

How is everyone doing now that Lent is over and springtime is in bloom?
We had several family members who didn't eat sweets during Lent, so there weren't too many goodies around the house to tempt. But now, I've found it's harder -- there's ice cream, baked goods, etc. Plus my two teenage daughters love to bake cookies, so it seems like there's always a yummy homemade cookie just coming out of the oven.
The trick, for me, is to just have a little bit. I could seriously eat a dozen cookies in a sitting, so learning to have just "a little" is a new concept!
I read somewhere that all the flavor and excitement of eating comes in the first two bites and after that it's all repetition. I've tried to remember that .... sometimes it helps, sometimes it doesn't!

Hey Debbie! Welcome. I've only been up here three weeks, but welcome anyhow. :) By the way, there are multiple Catholic homeschooling curriculum programs/and/or/books, even ones that you can send in your paperwork, have them graded, etc... one that I mostly use is www.setonhome.org. I don't use the program itself but I do use the books they offer, which are all Catholic based, which I LOVE.
Anyhow, welcome!

Welcome Debbie! This is what I want to see, more Catholic moms joining together to help each other win the battle against being unhealthy. That is why I started this group. :) Way to go on the weight loss.

Welcome to the group!
I joined SparkPeople 4 months ago, and it has been great. I have really used the nutrition tracker, even on the days I mess up and overeat, just because it helps keep me on track.
The teams have been very helpful, too. There's a lot to be said about being able to check in on a regular basis with people who are on the same journey.
I am Catholic, and a homeschool mom, but that's certainly not a requirement here! It's just a lifestyle that seems to work for us.
Good luck on your weight loss journey!

Thank Deb! I feel so naive, but I've never heard of a Catholic based home schooling, I'm intrigued!!! There's a wonderful Catholic school here where I live and I would LOVE to send my children there but we just can't afford it right now!

Hi, my name is Debbie... a mom, a Catholic revert, and ready to stop making excuses for my weight and make it a priority to get healthy for me and my children. I don't homeschool, but I'm excited to find a Catholic group for support that doesn't have thousands of people! I like the smaller group setting, you don't get lost in the sea of people so easily! I started on 31 Mar and lost 3 lbs last week! I'm really motivated and hope to stay that way! :-)
