I haven't forgotten about you, didn't log in Fri or yesterday due to going straight from school to work or visa versa. I love the Mission low carb wraps. I don't usually stress about low carb, however I find that the low carbs in comparison to the whole wheat or low fat are softer and stay soft longer (don't get dried out). I agree Breaks? What stinking breaks, I ate my wrap yesterday while setting up charts for admissions and waiting for physicians to call back with order verifications, etc. I didn't get to walk yesterday or Friday either. No weight lose for me this weekend. :(

I dream of fixing something to eat at work, and on occasion I actually do. However, this takes more planning and organization than my home life is noted for. As a nurse, I am quite together and organized, wish I could bring some of those skills home with me. Wraps are an excellent idea that I had not thought about. see, in my house, I will buy something that I plan for work, but when I go to fix it, it is gone. Having four boys that eat like ten grown men, has my fridge and cupboards raided on a regular basis. But they do not like the tortilla wraps, so I know they would always be there when I want them. Speaking of the kids, they make it even more difficult to work on a healthy lifestyle. They can eat everything in sight, and still have incredible fitness. So, when it comes to eating healthy, I do not get the support I need at home. Of course, they tell me I am not fat, that I am just the way a mom should be. But they are so wrong because of unconditional love.
I too love the PBJ on white bread, bad, bad, bad. If I could really plan good, I could make good finger foods like the wraps and maybe veggie with dressing dips, to eat between 0100 and 0400 when I am usually doing my chart checks and such. We are encouraged to actually take a half hour break from work, but none of us actually have the time to do this with all the required documenting.
Oh well, sorry to ramble on like this. Guess I am just thinking in type here. But thanks for listening and providing support along with ideas.
Josie

Eating and then sleeping is a real problem for me also. My present strategy is to fix and take something to eat during the early morning hours, then when I get home I'm not hungry and can go right to sleep. My current favorites are cheese and fruit or wraps made with whatever left over meat I have and lettuce, cheese, etc. I also try to remember to drink water at night and stop with the coffee after 3 am so I am not jittery when I do get to lie down. My pit fall is a thick PBJ and glass of milk when I get home. LOVE IT!! But I haven't done that all week so far. SO FAR

Add going to school for upgrade of degree to that list of commons. I hope, if all goes well, to start back this summer in an RN to BSN program. Personally, I think the thing that works against our healthy lives is the nightshift thing. But I have work days evenings and nights in the unit and by far enjoy the night shift 7p-7a for many reasons. but boy our sleep and circadian rhythms sure do pay the toll. so, I/we have to figure a way to improve what we miss out by being awake when all should be sleeping. I have found that being on an eating schedule is near impossible. Any ideas you care to share? The second big problem for me is by the time I get home, I don't know if I am hungrier than I am tired or vise versa. So guess what, I grab the quickest, easiest thing (guaranteed not to be helthy), eat is quick, then fall aleep. Again, ideas are appreciated here. What are you pitfalls? Same, or do you have different dilemas?

Hi I'm also 'new again' to SPARK, a night shift nurse and mother of five. I'm working part time and going to school again to finally go from LPN to RN. I've been an LPN for 15 years. Unfortunately, my weight is creeping back up in the last 3 months since taking a night shift position. Look like we have alot in common. I'm 43 and live in NC.

Hi,
Gonna try this again. About a year ago I found this site and with support of a very special friend in school, I was able to loose 36 pounds. Now that I have graduated and am working 12 hour night shifts at a busy hospital. I have managed to gain 18 of it back. So, gonna dust myself off, recreate some of the good habits, I learned here and start all over again .I live in WV but work in VA, so in addition to a 12 hour shift, I have a little over 3 hours of driving round trip. convenient food has done me in and bad habits are well in place. I am 40 years old, have four children and you would think all this would be enough to make me loose weight just thinking about it. Well, I hope there are others like me out there that I can find on here, so we can do this together. Not just loose weight, but get into a healthier lifestyle. Any takers?
