Just joined the 5% Winter Challenge to help take off those excess holiday calorie pounds. I need the accountability of reporting in honestly and hope the new habits will continue past just the fixed challenge period.

Went for my physically therapy for my foot. Unfortunately due to illness I keep getting different therapists. I don't mind but they each do the massage differently. It will be ok. Have 4.more weeks left.Plus my homework also.

I'm heading up to Las Vegas this weekend to paddle in their Rose Regatta Dragon Boat Festival. Proceeds from the event go to fund low and no cost breast cancer treatments for women and men without insurance. All 25 women on my team are breast cancer survivors. emoticon

I'm starting back on I.V. chemo, Halaven, on the 21st of this month. I'll also be getting a Neulasta shot the day after each treatment.

Thank you; that is pretty much what my MO is doing; he'll keep me on a treatment until it stops working, then it's on to the next one, and I know there are a lot I haven't tried yet, and hopefully progress is being made on new ones so we won't be running out anytime soon.

Seven years is fantastic! Just keep treating it and hopefully before the treatments stop working, someone will discover a cure. One woman I paddle with is 5 years with stage IV metastatic and she went 6 races in one day at our last festival.

I've been living with stage IV breast cancer with mets to the bone since April 2007; my last scans showed that it has now moved into the liver, but so far, the lesions there are very small, and they are not causing any problems with the liver function at this time. I knew that eventually, it would spread past the bone, so I think to go 7 years before that happened is a good thing; and it sounds like what is in the liver is slow growing.

This past weekend I paddled in the Long Beach, CA dragon boat festival with my team of breast cancer survivors (Abreast in the West). We were entered in two divisions, made the finals in both, and got 1 bronze medal.

There are BCS (Breast Cancer Survivor) dragon boat teams across the US/Canada and world-wide. It's a great core and upper body workout and given the size/weight of the boat, a real lesson in working together (we launch and pull out our own boats). In addition to the physical workout, we also function as a support group - ages of our active paddlers range from 27 to 72, Stage I to stage IV, in situ to metastatic, still in treatment to 10 year post treatment. Our motto is "We paddle because we can. We paddle for those who can't." If your article mentioned a team in your area, it might be worthwhile contacting them - most groups I've encountered are very positive with an uplifting take on life as well as their cancer.

I paddle with a dragon boat team comprised of 22 breast cancer survivors - 20 paddlers, 1 drummer, and 1 steer in a 45 foot long, 1500 lb boat with a dragon head at the prow and dragon tail at the stern. We practice every weekend at the marina at a local lake. Next weekend we're heading to Long Beach, CA to race in their festival - hoping for a good showing.

I have 2 cats that I love very much also; Timmy just turned 14 years old yesterday. Kallie is around 12 years old. I'm not sure of her exact age because she was a stray in our neighborhood when I adopted her, but the vet estimated she was 9 months old at that time.

This month marks 7 years that my cancer has been stage IV; my original diagnosis was in May 2003, stage II breast cancer; then in April 2007, I had scans done and found that my cancer returned, this time to my bones.

I'm that way in the morning too, but mine is from arthritis and some is from the bone mets.
I find that I feel better when I get up and start moving a little; nothing strenuous, just the moving around I have to do to feed my kitties, and doing my routine; things like opening blinds and curtains and preparing my breakfast.

I do move slow in the mornings though, so if I have somewhere I need to be in the morning, I set my alarm to give myself 2 hours to get ready; it's much easier to get myself ready to go somewhere if I can take my time and not be in a rush.

I am really stiff in the morning, fibromyalgia, hard to get out of bed many days.

anyone have any tips to help? I have always had trouble drinking a lot of water, maybe increasing that would help.

I still suffer from quite bad neuropathy 5 years later, hands/feet, feet are way worse.

I love books, films, television shows that revolve around anything legal or political. Very disappointed that "The Good Wife" has been preempted by award shows and football and will be glad when it returns later this month. Just finished watch "House of Cards' on Netflix.

I used to bake for a living and for myself weekly. I stopped because I would eat it. And I did not miss it until today. I am on my way to Sprouts to pick up some soy-free bread made by Rudi's Bakery. It is also carried at Whole Foods... https://www.rudisbakery.com/organic/produc

5 years ago today, I finished my 6th chemo treatment in my 3rd battle against BC, I had stage 3 cancer, on chest wall and in axillary/under arm. I also battled cancer 2 others times, for a total of 3, if all my tests come up good this month, it will be the first time I am a 5 year survivor.

I got married in Reno, my now ex-husband at the time got me two rolls of nickles for the slot machine, I played one roll and kept the other one in my jewelry box for about 10 years til my sons found it and asked if they could have it. What could I say, I told them yes.

It was a great memory. Life was good and it still is.

My husband and I got married in Las Vegas....so we did go to a few casinos while we were there. I don't really like to gamble so we didn't lose much money. I enjoy all the lights on the Strip at night. It's just fun to walk down the street.

I've only gone to a casino once. It was years ago, with my parents. I took $20 in with me, played mostly quarter machines and came out with $10. I had fun despite coming out with only half of what I spent.

The only thing I didn't like was all the smoke; this was before smoking was outlawed in most indoor public places. I had itchy eyes and a scratchy throat that lasted into the next day after we left there.

I'm going with the Broncos too! I lived in the Chicago area for 30 years,so I'm a Bears fan and also a Packers fan (except when they play the Bears). Now, I live in Tennesssee and I'm trying to become a Titan's fan. They just weren't that interesting this year because they weren't very good and I was pretty down and out with chemo all during football season....so I kept falling asleep during the games!

I remember when I was bald from chemo 11 years ago; I remember weeks after my hair fell out, it had been weeks since I put any makeup on, and I never even noticed that most of my eyelashes fell out, until I went to put some mascara on.

I suprise myself every time I look in the mirror these days....I'm not used to seeing me completely bald and without eyebrows and eyelashes. I feel like I would make a great extra on a low-budget sci-fi movie!

After almost 4 years of IV chemo, I found out today my doctor is switching me to an oral treatment. I will be starting a combo of Aromasin/Affinitor.

emoticon for info on crochet/knitting, I would love to learn it.

Singing is my hobby, I have had some professional training, 4 years of voice lessons. I have enjoyed singing at weddings, church, Swedish organizations and even the national Anthem at my son's little league. emoticon emoticon

I always Ice skated when I was a kid, I haven't skated in 28 years and now my niece wants me to take her skating. I think it may hurt more if I fall now then it did then!

That's funny! I'm watching the figure skating championships right now too! I can skate, but not anything near like what the champs do. I would have loved to take figure skating lessons as a child. Right now they are showing Gracie Gold from Crystal Lake, IL. That was the little town right next to where I lived for 30 years.

I can't skate; even as a child, I couldn't do it; my ankles are too wobbly, but I LOVE watching it on TV. Watching the US Figure Skating Championships right now, and looking forward to the Winter Olympics in Sochi.

I learned how to crochet when I was 16, I had always tried to knit, but just didn't get it. When I was diagnosed with breast cancer I knew I would need another focus and if there was a chance I was going to lose my hair I wanted to make myself cute hats-the ones I was seeing at the time were all knit.

I went into a local knitting shop and explained why I wanted to learn how to knit to the owner. She stopped what she was doing, sat down and taught me. I went to see her once a week, she gave me lessons, never charging me a dime.

As I went through the BC process I got to focus on something new, I had a double mastectomy; knitting or crocheting for more then a few minutes at a time was out of the question. So I started making little toys-just little smiles really. I can make one now in just a few hours; then it took two weeks. But it gave me a purpose, a goal. I needed that.

Danielle's Yarn shop did not survive, she had to go out of business. But I will always appreciate the gift that she never knew she gave to me.

The toys have been given away to anyone who needs a smile.

Inga, I didn't think it was hard to learn, but I learned when I was child, watching my mom do it. I can't knit though, even though I tried. It's funny, I have friends who are avid knitters that think crocheting is hard, and I am just the opposite. I guess maybe it depends on which one you learn first.

I do enjoy knitting with Knifty Knitter looms though. I make hats with those too; some for chemo patients, and I also make infant hats to donate to the hospital.

I retired at age 57 so that I could take care of my husband. I'm now 64. I fractured my right ankle 39 days prior to retirement. So I had to do rehabilitation after surgery and healing. I developed a love of exercise and became a friend of my personal trainer. Even with the recovery and RA, I learned how to do strength training, flexibility training, balance, classes (spin, kickboxing, zumba), and swimming. I even did a triathlon.

So I am able to exercise more than most people with cancer and RA. I just need to watch fatigue. I am lucky!

I am on my way to better health!

I crochet too. I've also made hats to donate to our cancer resource center for other chemo patients. I do mostly small projects, like the hats, and those crocheted topped hanging towels, but occasionally I will tackle a bigger project such as and afghan.

I stick mostly to simple pattens and stitches.

When I was diagnosed the first time, I found the lump myself, I was only 39; not yet at the age where a mammogram would be covered by insurance, but because it was known there was a lump there, it was covered because it was then considered diagnostic. I also had an ultrasound. I didn't know at the time there was a second lump behind it that I could not feel.

If I hadn't felt that first lump, it probably would have been at least another year before I knew I had cancer.

I promised to share my results of the stereotactic biopsy on my breast. I had a cancer nodule that was invasive. I have a mammogram on Thursday to give my surgeon the path between the two markers from each growth's removal. I have a MRI on both breasts to see if there is anymore cancer. I am also having lymph nodes checked.

I am still feeling blessed that this was caught early.

I am on my way to better health!

I don't have any pets.

My husband and I were training for a year-long self-supported bicycle trip when I got diagnosed with cancer. We still hope to do some long-distance bicycle touring, so it's not a good idea for us to take on any pets right now.

I hope to get back to bicycling in the spring. I might start riding a tadpole trike instead of an upright bicycle to reduce the risk of lymphedema since I have to get all the lymph nodes in my left armpit removed.

SBECKER526, waiting for biopsy test results is hard. I'll be thinking of you on Tuesday.

This Tuesday, I have my 3rd AC infusion and I'll learn the results of my BRCA test. There is only a 15% chance I have the mutation, but it will make a big difference in my surgery if I do.

I feel nervous about my mammograph-assisted biopsy on Tuesday. I also want to get the surgery done and find out about treatment. I have two nodules in one breast. One so far is cancerous. The waiting can be difficult. I'm calm about the disease. I want to get on with my life!

I just started reading 12 Years a Slave this morning. I think it's going to be a great book. I got it on my Kindle for free from my local library's ebook program. That's how I read most books these days. I have 21 days to read it, but this seems like a book that I will finish in a couple days.

I feel really good about my diagnosis and doctors. My rheumatologist is now aware of the pending procedures and surgeries. We need to watch my methotrexate for RAD. I will be glad to have the second biopsy on my larger growth done next week. I am at peace.

I am on call this week as the chaplain for my church.

That is great news Kay!

And here is my share for today, my first one for this team:
I am an avid reader; I take time to read for at least 20 minutes each day. I belong to two book teams here on Spark, and I am the leader on one; I took over when the original leader of the team left Spark. I also love writing and sharing book reviews.
