We are now fulltiming and I love it. We finally sold our house last November and don't have regrets. We spent one year where I worked in a campground, then last April we worked at a campground in WI for the summer near family and this winter in Missouri. I know not the warmest place to be for the winter, but it is 15 mins from our son The only way we can be on the road at this time is to workamping. The work is not hard and there are a lot of situations out there. This sumer we are headed to Montana. Escapees is a great organization, we have attended on of their "Boot Camp" session, a lot of great information. Another great thing about Escapees is that they have a couple of locations that have CARE program, this is if you are having medical issue and need to be in one place for a short time. Another place to look at is RV-Dreams.com,, this group doesn't have a cost attached, but great information. I hope this helps a little.

Glad I could be of help with the Escapees club. It is a great organization and they have many ways to help full timers. Congratulations on getting in 30 years of teaching! That is really an accomplishment! This is my 30th year of being an RN but nurses don't have any retirement unless you do it yourself.

Hope you enjoy your time on the road. Too bad about your good friend.......sure wouldn't expect someone to die from choking these days with the Heimlich manuever. Everyone should know it! emoticon

Thanks so much for the mention of the Escapees Club. I didn't know about it, and was so glad to find it. We have our house up for sale and plan on RVing full-time this June, after I retire, if all goes as planned. We have our fingers crossed with the housing market as it is. We will lower the house price in the spring. Right now I have to finish up my 30th year of teaching....seven more months! emoticon

I wish you good luck in what you decide to do. I understand your fears. It's a big decision, but I agree that life is too short. We want to travel and enjoy life while we can. We lost a good friend/neighbor/RV buddy in May-he died suddenly after choking on a piece of steak. It really changed our perspective on things!

We are hoping that when we go full time, we will have a small home on a couple of acres with low taxes and not much in the way of utility costs. I feel we need to be as efficient as possible and be able to feed ourselves because I think that some day we will need to do that...

Please take care and continue to study your options! Right now, you have a lot of them, still young enough to take the time to decide. Hubby should be happy that you are on the Escapees forum! Isn't he the one who wants to full time it?

Hi thanks guys, I wish I had the $$ to be fulltime and have a house to go back to. But we have land with nothing built, we want to be self sufficent as we can be, as the world is going nuts, prices for elec. gas etc are crazy. So when we do build it will be small and efficent. But sell our house and go on the road for while, hoping that we have the $$ to build when we get back, or if we both like it, we could do it till we can be of age to go to a retirement building, ( not specifically a seniors home). So for that most are 60 or 65 I do know one that is a apt and for 55 up. So I will be 56 new years eve so 4 year or so.
Anyway will see. I told hubby last night, you won't believe what I am doing over here, on the escapees forum again. He was like WHAT really, what is wrong with you! LOL
Thanks

I used to full time, but it was work related and we travelled from Jan to about Oct-Nov. Stayed put in Tx during our off time. I don't think any of our other Canadians are full timers, but I've heard others talk about the time constraints you have. Talk to Sharon about the fears of going full time. She had some of the same anxieties you are now. They have compromised and are snow birds. They did downsize in their home. That may be a consideration for you. I personally would be a fulltimer if I could. I love the life. I love to travel and see new sights. Fear stops so many of us from doing things. I have fears, just not the same type. I hope our comments have been of some help to you.

We have RVing friends who did this for a few years and went all over the US, primarily being south in the winter and north in the summer.

I think we have some fulltimers on this team, and we also have some snowbirds. I am not willing to totally retire yet, so DH and I fit our traveling in around my teaching schedule. Perhaps being snowbirds would be a good compromise for both you and DH?

Welcome!

My name is Tammy and I live in SW Missouri.

Oh, I see! We spent a week in the Rio Grande valley in a park with friends last January, and met some Canadians who winter there every year. I didn't think about constraints on your time with them. Good Luck!

Hi! We are not fulltimers yet, because I still have to work, but we hope to be one day! Living in Texas, I know that the parks down here stay open all year, and you can negotiate monthly rates (lower if you are staying a few months) weekly rates, or even nightly rates. I would suggest joining Good Sams just for the roadside assistance if nothing else.

I'm betting your husband would do fine with a larger rig, he will be super careful because it will be your home. If you join the Escapees they have many benefits also for full timers. Don't worry so much, if you want to do something, do it! Life is too short, our time here is limited. You will survive, probably in better shape than you may think right now....... emoticon

Know this is a very weird question for this team but.....

I have a question...... are many of you guys Fulltimers ? ( and do you own a home somewhere?)
My hubby is retired and we have a 32 ft 5th wheel which we have just put seasonal right now. I am on long term disability for now, and waiting to hear what they say. I am not able to go to work in my humble opinion and my arthrtic joints say the same. Who knows what the insurance will say.
Anyway hubbys dream is to fulltime south in winter back here in summer. But there is a lapse when campgrounds are open here and how long we are allowed down south. Anyway I don't want to, he does and now we are talkign selling the trailer but I do love it but am a nervous nellie for him to drive and back it up etc. I know he will only get better, and he isnt bad now. I just have to repeat this to myself. and then if you read my blog day 50 ... about the mountain... I don't want to not do things cos I am always afraid. we have more than 1 kind of insurance, so we run out of gas, etc. we are covered.....
I want a house and a trailer and not sure we can afford both. Opps gotta go puppy wants out.
