Welcome to the vegan lifestyle! There are a number of really good resources. One is the PCRM vegan kickstart. PCRM is free. That is how I got started more than 2 years ago. I posted recently too that I have been doing the Happy Herbivore meal plans and have to say the cooking isn't overly burdensome, and I lost 12 pounds and a dress size last month. Sometimes I feel guilty because it doesn't feel like I am cooking fancy enough!

Since going vegan I have nearly gotten all my numbers back in the normal range. I think they will all be there this fall when I do my annual check up.

Welcome aboard.

Hello fellow Sparkers! I'm new to the site and am learning the ropes. This seems like a very supportive place to be and I want to share a little about myself , what brought me here and why this is so important to me.

I am 1 week short of 63 years old and have a myriad of chronic diseases, some old, some new, some devastating and some easily manageable. First, type 2 diabetes using U500 insulin administered through an insulin pump. Hypertension, portal hypertension, pulmonary hypertension, hypothyroidism, vitamin D deficiency, low iron, low platelates, stage 3 kidney failure, but the one that really rocked my world is non-alcoholic chronic liver disease. It is so hard to manage and causes many episodes of hepatic encephalopathy, even though i take my medication and follow my cirrhosis diet religiously. My nephrologist has put me on a vegan diet and I'm working hard to learn all i can. So far, tofu ain't so bad! Until i lose about 100 pounds i don't quality for a liver transplant. So, in a nutshell, that's my health status. I have a great support group of family, friends, and church friends who watch after me, take me where i need to go (I can no longer drive), and never leave me by myself.
