Welcome! The good news is there is no hurry every step you take in the right direction is a step toward health and a step for the environment and a step that will save an animal's life. Read, read, read. This new lifestyle takes a while to learn for it to stick with you. There will be setbacks. But tomorrow is always another day. When eating out, choose Ethnic restaurants like Asian.. We like Thai, VietNamese, Indian. Before you go to a restaurant look on line and pull up a menu. It is true that sports bar type places are going to be hard unless they have a veggie burger and the longer you are vegan/vegetarian the more tired you become of that option when eating out. Most places will give you a salad and a baked potato that is a boring option too. When you are absolutely stuck going out with a bunch of omnivores and want to make the best choice available for the night, look at the whole menu as a list of what the chef has in the kitchen and politely tell your server that you only eat plants and can the chef please use the pasta from this dish and the veggies from this dish and mix you up a simple marinara sauce (no cheese) and bring you a simple mixed veggie salad on the side with plain red wine vinegar or balsamic vinegar for the salad and a roll. I do just that all of the time with great success. (I don't eat added fat either which adds another layer of difficulty for me)
Once you get the hang of this it gets easier. But sometimes at a restaurant I get a vegan veggie burger and realize that they slathered butter on the bun before they grilled it. (UGH! I prob forgot to ask about that when I ordered.....) so I just eat it and go on with my life.... Life is just to short for me to worry about the small stuff. I do the best I can...
Hi everyone~I'm Renee. I've been working really hard to change my eating habits over the last year. I've tried to cut out meat before & got sick but that was probably because I wasn't eating healthy in the first place (this was before my weight loss journey). Now I've been cutting out mostly all meat-think it's been 2 weeks since I had any actual meat and I've cut way back before that. I'm making black bean burgers etc... to replace the meat & that is going totally fine. Even use it for wraps, tacos blah blah. But I have a lot to learn still & finding healthy vegetarian meals when out is not always easy in this area-everything is meat meat meat or really fattening junk. Hope to learn & find some support as we transition from meat eaters to vegetarians. I would also love to cut out as much eggs as I could but haven't figured out how to really do that yet in our diet. Guess I will learn. Looking forward to learning new recipes & new ways to cook meals & substitute eggs. :)
