Hi, I am very interested in getting some great recipes, especially for legumes (including red lentils). I went meat-free and dairy-free before my husband did, but we both eat wild fish. I've just ordered a vegan cookbook from Amazon, but I am eager to find out recipes that others find work for them. I am especially into learning more legumes recipes.

Also, I am trying to lose weight so I'd be grateful for lower cal recipes.

Hi there! I am new to this team. I have been a vegetarian for several years, and I absolutely love it! It's cheaper... tastier... and healthier. I am a huge fan of Nava Atlas cookbooks... and I love using my slow cooker! Glad to be here!

overnight actually -- twice -- the first time was about 15 years ago after my first daughter was born. I was vegan for 2.5 years and then started eating meat again -- big mistake for me. This time I have been vegan for 1 year and vegetarian for 2 years.

You're right - I'm definitely finding it different! When I was younger I didn't understand how to maintain a healthy balance without meat so it just wasn't working for me. Now that I'm also in control of my own meals, it makes it easier. I get really excited about dinner now and all the new things I can make!

Hi everyone!

I'm Ashley, 22, and live in BC, Canada. I was a vegetarian for 4 years in my early teens and have decided to cut meat out again now.

Hello. I'm sort of new here. I hadn't introduced myself yet because I couldn't find the time, and now that I'm laid off... well, now I have time. lol.

So, my name is Sophia, but Isabella works too (middle name), so whichever you feel like using. I live on the Charlton/Sturbridge, MA line. I'm 26. I'm not sure what else to say, except that I'm ready and willing to throw myself into something new, now that I have time and less stress on my hands.

Hello :)

First let me say I am NOT a vegetarian, but I was when younger and still love many veggie dishes over ones with meats in them. So, if you all don't mind, I'd like to lurk here occasionly to see if I can get any more healthy ideas.

I've been here for a while, but not very actively. I am only a semi-veg, generally I have a meat-free kitchen but I figure I've already got enough food restrictions (no gluten) I don't need to further complicate life with voluntary restrictions.
Mostly I'm here looking for recipe ideas, I don't generally follow recipes very well so I'm just looking for ideas that I can adapt and amend and combine with others for something new, (safe) and tasty.

Hi group! I'm fairly new to this team. I've been an on and off vegetarian for quite a few years, and am definitely one at this point. I doubt I will ever go back to meat. I train for Ironman distance triathlons so am always looking for good info on high protein foods.

Hello, I joined this team because I'm a culinary idiot. I can follow recipes in a cookbook, but I don't have the creative mind for cooking. I like to get other peoples' opinions about different recipes and products on the market (thought I'm trying to reduce my processed food intake).

Lisa :)

That's my story and I'm sticking to it!

I just joined the group. I've recently come back to SP after a long hiatus. I've been vegetarian, vegan, and raw-vegan. Right now.. well, I gave up meat for 40 days for "Lent" - I'm not Catholic, just something I wanted to do - and I find I don't miss it at all. My favorite food is sushi.. I usually have it about twice a month. Other than that, I'm "vegan-inclined" (as I like to call it)... meaning I try to eat as vegan as possible most of the time, but occasionally I'll have some dairy products in small amounts. Anyway, good to be back, I'm looking forward to some creative recipes that aren't heavily reliant on soy products.

That's going to be touchy. I've been vegetarian for over 25 years and my Mother still can't understand it. She has at least stopped offering me meat but doesn't understand why soup made with chicken stock would be a problem. Different worlds. Hang in there and hopefully you can come up with a compromise. Maybe you'll introduce them to some vegetables they'll like! I recently got Mother to try brussel sprouts for the first time (she's 89) and she loved them. She also now eats broccoli and cauliflower, something we never had when I was a kid.

I'm new to this Spark Team. When I choose my meal it is always vegetarian and often raw. I feel really good when I eat this way. But recently I have moved my elderly parents in with me and my mom cooks very traditionally American, meat potatoes and cooked everything. So if I don't want to hurt her feelings I have to have something already prepared or else it seems to her like I am rejecting her cooking. We are still working this out. It's only been three months and I will find a way to eat vegetarian and keep the peace too.

Hello!
I'm here too! I've been lurking most of the time without even writing an intro (I think?) emoticon

I've been vegetarian now for over 1 year (only, I know..) and love it! I really wish I would have made the switch many years ago when I first started feeling sorry for the poor animals.. Right now I'm still eating eggs from range free happy chicken (Italian country side) and use whey protein powder, but other than that I see myself more as a soon-to-be-vegan. (Once we;re back in the US, I will make the switch to 100% vegan for sure!)

Hi,

My name is Kristal, and I have been a vegetarian for one year. It was not difficult at all giving up the meat or poultry, but I have had a difficult time coming up with recipes. As a result, I have increased my carb intake, which has caused me to gain weight. I hope to get some great ideas from my team members.

Hi! I'm still around. I've been a vegetarian for about 25 years, but the rest of the family is not so our meals are lopsided most of the time. I do try to get some vegetables into them but it's not easy. At least they are ok with my diet and don't harass me about it. I do a lot of salads and use Soy meat a lot.

I'm still in. I'm a working mom of 2 who cooks every night, so new recipes are always welcome. Kids will eat poultry, but hubby won't so I don't use it in cooking. Lots of grains, tofu, etc. Have found a lot of great recipes on SP but can always use more.

Hello, I'm Renee. I volunteered to be the team co-leader due to an inactive leader. I'm just wondering how many people we still have active on the team. You don't have to write a long drawn out post, but I'd just like to know how many people are still interested in sharing their vegan/vegetarian recipes, etc.

Like I said, simple "Hello" or "I'm here" would be wonderful. If you want to make the post longer, feel free. :)

If you have any suggestions, comments, etc, please feel free to send me SparkMail.
