Welcome to the team! If you check into the recipes posted on Spark I'm sure you will find some wonderful vegetarian ones that will bring you just as many compliments as your old recipes did. Good luck!
I have always been interested in being vegetarian for health and animal cruelty reasons, but clung to my omnivore ways...everyone always brags on my cooking, especially my chicken fried-steaks, my meat-loaf, the philly cheese-steaks, etc....what will I make now, twigs?
And I have a teen-age girl at home who's pickier than most infants. My boyfriend however, WAS a vegetarian until I ruined him, but he's trying to get back to it since he's gained 50 lbs..
Just recently, I watched a t.v. show, "30 days", and it dealt with this topic, and I gotta tell ya', it changed my mind.
So I'm joining y'all, I'm here to learn!

I understand how you feel. I used to HATE tomatoes except in pasta sauce. When I was vegetarian the first time I was getting bored with all the same foods and I found a recipe for a tomato gallett and that changed my mind about tomatoes. It was so easy to make one pie crust some chevre and a couple of fresh sliced tomatoes. Yumm I'm gonna have to go to the farmers market tomorrow and see if there are any good tomatoes yet.
I have tried a few recipes to make my own meat substitute but haven't been happy with the results. One of the best meat replacements I have found is big brown mushrooms with and asian(sounds like shee ta key) name that the profanity filter doesn't like they are really good grilled or sauteed or grilled.
The Morning Star Nuggets here are $2.84 and are equal to one pound of ground beef. With that one package, I add tomatoes, onion and vegetables and usually some pasta or barley have a pot of soup that my husband and I eat on for days.
Ths chicken patties are eaten on a bun or alone with a baked potato and brococoli. One box costs less than $3.00 and makes two meals for the two of us.
Compared to what meat costs, it's not so bad. Of course, we don't eat them every day either.
I've tried Morningstar and Boca and like Morningstar better, but they are both pretty expensive. And with the floods in the midwest I'm worried they're going to raise the price even more. I eat them less often than I used to just because of the price.
KATE49 DH and I hove the Morning Star foods too. Have you tried any of the Boca products? I love the Chkn nuggets. We don't have that stuff very often though because I think it is too expensive so its a treat when we do.

Nobody trips over mountains. It is the small pebble that causes you to stumble.
Pass all the pebbles in your path and you will find that you have crossed the mountain.
Welcome to the team! I also eat fruits, vegetables, dairy, eggs, and love Morningstar Farms soybean products. HealthierNow has started another thread where we can post ratings on recipes we try. I thought that was a really great idea. Glad you joined us!
I didn't study on being vegetarian and all the different foods. SP has taught me a lot. I feel that animals have feelings and I could no longer eat them. I eat fruits and vegetables, eggs, yogurt and cheese and couldn't do without MorningStar products.

Hi I'm Veronique! I'm new to SP and have been away from the vegetarian way of life for a long time. I'd love to hear what your favorite recipes and veggie foods are. Spirituality brought me to vegetarianism the first time I'm back hoping to regain the joie de vivre that I had.
