Hi, my name is Rose. Nice to meet you all. I was so glad to see that there is a spark group for Chester County. My husband and I moved here last May. I was at 190, and then after getting out of my exercise routine and calorie-counting I gained what I lost. I am trying to be back at 190 and then to 125. It's been a long road, but I know I can do it. And it's much less stressful when there is a supportive team to help each other along the road.

Hi, I am in Kennett Square. I joined SparkPeople about a year ago and did really well with it for a couple of months. Then summer came. We have a boat and do a lot of eating and drinking on the weekends, so I gained back the weight I lost. I can't let that happen this year. My goal is to get healthier. I have high blood pressure and high cholesterol, and I would like to get off of or reduce my meds. My weight originally got out of control in my early 40's during peri-menopause and while I had very demanding, high-stress jobs. Prior to that, I was kind of a fitness nut. I am now 53 and would like to lose 70 lbs. I have three terrific grown children and am looking forward to my first grandchild due March 1st - so excited! emoticon

Welcome Maggie! I must admit, we are sometimes behind on posting, but we are always lurking around! I blog every day, so I'm on here every day, if you ever need support or advice on something feel free to send me a message thru my sparkpage!

If you are working out and not losing weight, you may want to start being accountable for what you are eating. You may be eating more calories than you think. Or maybe taking in too much sodium, which could be causing water retention. Tracking my food was eye opening to me, and blogging about my struggles keeps me accountable every single day.

Good luck on your journey!

EDIT: Hahahaha I just noticed that post was from Feb of 2010. I'm a year behind :)

Hi!!
I am new to sparkpeople, a friend of mine referred me. My name is Maggie, 38 yo mom to 3 and step mom to 2 - Oldest is 20 and youngest is 2. I'm also going to be a grandmother in April. I have about 75ish pounds I'd like to lose. I started working out the beginning of Jan, doing the elliptical only the first week or so, then my 12 and 9 yo wanted to do an exercise video at night so now I do the elliptical while the baby is in for her nap and we do the video after she goes to bed at night.

I got a little discouraged last friday when I got on the scale and I was UP a pound ???? I worked out 20 out of 23 days and GAINED a pound LOL! Yesterday I got back on track though, figured I can't tell the kids it is about being healthy if I'm going to give up so easy. Now I added the drinking more water, trying to track what I'm eating and hopefully that makes a difference.

Anyway, I was happy to see a local group on here, I look forward to getting to know you!

Welcome, Erin. SP is a great weapon in the weight loss war! Don't worry about being a novice. Finding your way around, navigating through all the information gets easier as you log on each day.

Hi Everyone! I just joined Sparks two weeks ago, and completed my Fast Track, and moved on to step 2. I'm completely new at this, had trouble setting up my page, I'm a novice. Anyways, my name is Erin, I'm 28, I will be 29 in October (I'd like to get to my birthday thinner). I just had a daughter in March. My husband, daughter, and I live near Downingtown, I work in West Chester. So far, I have been doing okay, but just thought I'd reach out for the support!

Hello - I have been on the website for a little over a month and just found this team as well. I love the nutrition tracker! What a powerful tool! I've lived in Exton for the past 4 years. Previously I was a native of NH. Glad to be here with this team!

Welcome Mandy, what a great experience. Learning empathy, walking in someone else's shoes, is important but hard. I think this is why Spark People is good, people who are facing similar challenges can exchange ideas. Wish you much success preparing for your wedding.

I've been wanting to do this for some time but couldn't get motivated. Then I started my fluency disorders class at WCU and as part of our preparation, we were asked to change a behavior so we could be empathetic when we help others to change a behavior. Each week before class we meet with a mini-support group and discuss how it's going. I'm really into it and moving ahead full force. I would like to be smaller for my wedding but being 2 1/2 yeas away I kept putting it off. But no more. Now I'm here and I'm seeing this through. emoticon

Hello, I joined Spark in May but just discovered this site. I live in Paoli, and once lived in Kennett Square. In my 20's and 30's I was heavy but exercised and felt ok, then along came kids and career pressure and woke up this spring to realize I felt terrible and looked worse. So far Spark is much better for me than anything I've tried in the last few years because of the tracker and the support. Would love to hear from neighbors!

C25Kers,
Thanks so much for posting about this program. I did my 2nd workout today and feel so great. I love that it is so gradual; that I have been given permission to go slow. And wow is it slow! One of my sons runs cross country for school and ribs me about my "training regimen" but it truly is something fun for both of us to talk about. Keep the great things that have worked for you coming.

Couch to 5K is an awesome program. Just be sure to stick EXACTLY to the program. It may seem like it's slow or not enough but it keeps you from pushing yourself too hard. That's the main culprit of people that quit working out. They push themselves too hard, too fast and then give up because it's just too much. If you follow it to the letter, you will be successful. It even allows you to lengthen each stage if you need to before moving on. It's a safe and effective tool when used correctly.

Couch to 5K - (http://www.c25k.com/). It looks like a pretty good program. It even has podcasts. I think I'm going to start this when it's not quite so hot. I think when I do start I'll definitely do what you did - nice and slow.

Hey, I've added you as a friend so we don't have to hog the message boards. Add me a friend if you like.

Thanks! What is C25k? I understand your hesitation, running is very hard for me...the remaining 30 lbs are all hanging out around my hips and bottom and I struggle! I just started out slowly and ignored the crazy marathoners around me-what a difference though, it's amazing how quickly you start building muscle and dropping weight...it may not be what you are into now but you never know!

Hi there - 70 pounds - yay for you! And very exciting about the wedding. I want to try running but am a bit hesitant at the moment. I think I'll wait a little longer. I've heard the C25K is a good program.

Hello from Chaddsford! Nice to see so many chester county-ers on this forum...a little about me:

I've lost about 70lbs over the last two years and have about 30 more to go...getting married in June 2009 so I want to be at my goal weight by then...I'm projected to be done by Feb 2008 but I've learned to be patient--

Just started running (well jogging if you want to get technical)recently and it has made an amazing difference-any other runners out there?

Anyway just wanted to say hello;)

I do miss home, but have been away for so long it's so I don't miss as much anymore. My family come over fairly frequently so I get to see them a couple of times a year. Amazing how the presence of a grandchild gets them back on that plane!

Hi Brigith! Welcome, welcome, welcome. (to the board and to the area.) It sounds like you are super busy, with your son, work, life. Do you miss New Zealand? Like PRINCIPESSA7, I'd like to visit there too. I'd have to agree that chester county is a nice area to live too. West Chester is a nice town. I live in Phoenixville. Nice to meet you!

Hi everyone - this is not a re-introduction, just a first introduction.

I have a 15 month old son, am married and am originally from New Zealand. We lived in DC for 4 years before moving up here for hubbies work. I love this area and am so glad we did it.

I work from home full time and my baby is in daycare part time so I keep pretty busy!

Hope to hear from fellow Chester County-ians (is that a word?) soon!

We are glad you are here L8AGAIN! I have to start walking again. This week, my goal is to eat better and walking a little. Today, I started off okay, but got out of my one job late. Hence, I couldn't go home and get my frozen meal to eat and wound up falling prey to the clown's place. urrh. tomorrow's another day!

Hi All,
I'm a 47 year old, stay-at-home mother of 2 teen age boys. I've got about 50 lbs of excess weight I'm tired of lugging around. I'm an avid gardener, love to cook and spend time with family and friends.

I used to be fairly active, playing team tennis several times each week, doing yoga, and walking. After a couple of years of weight gain I've discovered that exercise is a bit harder with all this excess weight on me!

I'm looking to take this weight off the right way through getting control of my eating and slowly getting back into regular exercise.

It's great finding you all here. It'll be fantastic having all of you for support through this weight loss journey.

Hi everyone. I live in Downingtown and have really let myself go. I am a single mom working 2 jobs plus numerous volunteer positions. By the time i get home from work, i have time to prepare a "processed food" dinner for my son and i, spend some fun time together, do homework and get ready for bed. Working out? No time. Home cooking? No time. I finally broke down and made some budgeting changes to afford a personal trainer twice a week on my work lunch breaks. I need to find time for more cardio to drop the pounds. My goal is to fit back into my regular size clothes.

Hi again everyone. My goal is to get back down to a healthy weight and get back in shape so I can try to get pregnant again. I have a one-year-old son and I absolutely love being a mom. That is also my challenge. I hardly get any time to myself so finding time to work out is difficult and I am often just grabbing whatever is on hand to eat because I don't have time to prepare healthy meals and watch a toddler at the same time. He eats better than I do.

At the moment I am really wanting to get back on track. I have been off the wagon for a while and am now at the highest weight I have ever been, even more than when I was 9 months pregnant. Even my "fat" clothes are getting snug and that is really depressing.

I am definitely going to try to stick to this month's goals and get myself headed in the right direction again.

Hi everyone.

Please re-introduce yourself to the team, where you are from, what your weight loss goals are, your challenges, etc.

I'll start. I'm a 30-something who has a lot of weight to lose. (let's say way over 100 pounds - WAY OVER! emoticon emoticon ) I am an emotional stress eater who works 2 jobs and has no time to eat right, cook, or work out, or so it seems. I have to manage my time better to fit these all in.

Another challenge is working out. I've let myself go so bad, WALKING is working out for me! emoticon My allergies have been bad this year. I've been sick 2 times with coughing since the new year, which makes me feel even worse and seems to put me even more behind.

I want to look good, feel better and be healthy! I HATE BEING THIS FAT.

Thanks for listening. What's your story?
