Welcome Juniper45!

I don't think you should feel ashamed to see another RD, we all need help which is why we are all part of SP! I really believe that with the help of SP and your CDE you will be able to lose weight, control your DM, and continue to cook and eat but in a healthier way!! Keep us posted!

Hi Jenny, Welcome! If you're at all like me, I think you'll find the SP tools quite helpful, even if they're not ideally set up for someone with diabetes (I'd love to see fibre/"net" carbs as one of the main things to track).

You seem to have a great attitude towards your diagnosis (or are trying to be positive, anyway!). I haven't seen another RD as a patient myself, but definely would - we all have different areas of expertise, and it can be great to get an outside perspective. During my university training, a classmate and friend saw an RD for weight loss advice, even though we were studying that exact subject, and found it really helpful.

Knowing what's healthy is a lot different than doing it, as you know. I was eating junk out of boredom, stress, etc. Seeing it add up on my body, and then with the nutrition tracker really helped me break that habit (mostly).

Good luck in your journey!

Hello fellow RDs, I am new to SP. While I first registered in 2006, this is my first time using the tools.

Two weeks ago I had a shock when my fasting blood glucose came back as 119. In previous years I have been 103 and 106, but my last one 12 months ago was 88. I have a family history of DM, I had two babies over 9 pounds, I am 70 pounds overweight and I currently have a sedentary lifestyle.

In three days I will see a Certified Diabetes Educator who is a dietitian for diet therapy and glucose meter training. I am struggling with feelings of shame over this, but mostly I want to accept this gift with grace and make use of the knowledge and skill of a colleague with specialized training. Please tell me there are other RDs out there who have gone for nutrition counseling or who have had other RDs as patients.

I work with the WIC program and have been an RD for 20 years next month. My weight has crept up on me these past 20 years. I love to cook and eat good food and I am a stress eater, eating to soothe anxious and depressed feelings. But this is my year to get off this path and take a new one toward health and wellness. Thank you for having a group for dietitians to share our own struggles.
Jenny
