Hi, I'm Amanda, but you can call me Penguin. I turned 40 in October, have already had that dreaded "first mammogram" (yes, willingly! ... and it's clean), and just got a FitBit. I've been wanting one for ages now and finally broke down and got it. I already love it.
My dad, whom I take after for most of my genetic disposition, is a heart patient, and since I'm overweight, I know i need to take better care of myself. My cholesterol is within a good range (at the last check. I'm due for my next one, which I'll request at my next doctor visit), and I eat relatively healthy. Some carbs, but dinners are usually chicken/fish/pork and some veggies. I don't drink much soda, and usually do water and juice with occasional coffee or hot cocoa. Soda is maybe a few times a month. I don't buy it to bring into my home. I do my best to keep my portions within a decent range. So, with the food thing mostly tackled (chocolate... you can't take that away from me! Occasional fast food or chips, but again, a couple times a month at most), now I need to tackle the exercise part. Hence the FitBit.
As for other stuff, I live alone with two ornery cats, lots of books and fabric, am a writer and costume designer, and part time college student. I've struggled with weight gain since I was in my mid-20's. I'm at my highest now at 179, and don't want to go higher.
Anyone else here use a FitBit?
