Hi Melissa! Excited to have you in the group! I was one of those people who had only heard awful things about the breed and bought into the hype...until the "black lab mix" that I adopted at nine weeks old grew up to be very clearly a Lab/Pitbull mix. I hate admitting this now but when it started to become apparent that we'd adopted one of these children-eating, dog-aggressive monsters, I did my homework. My Cliff has completely changed my mind about the breed and one of the things I like to do is tell people my experience. I posted our story on the animal shelter's website. I tell people all the time how I used to believe the crap but they are welcome to come see how well my dog obeys my two year old godson and see him play in a group at the dog park. I posted pictures of a kitten sharing his food dish on my Facebook page :-) I think it's about exposing people to your good example of what the breed should be. I would really love to get involved in one of those programs where children read to dogs as a means of improving their reading ability. The idea is that they can practice reading to "somebody" who won't judge or correct them so they feel more comfortable. My "vicious pitbull" would love curling up and listening to a child read :-)
Hi Melissa, I'm not sure where you live, but you can go to meetup.com, put in your zip code to see if there's a pit bull meetup. I'm in Austin and the group I'm a member with is Love-A-Bull. love-a-bull.org/
My name is Melissa, and I am a proud mommy of a red nose bully! I have been an outspoken opponent of the ignorant people that are for banning this beautiful and sweet breed. I would really like to get more involved in promoting how sweet and wonderful they really are. Please send me more ways i can involve myself.
