thanks, everyone. Sun is shining today and that makes me want to be outside !! Supposed to get to low 50's Sat and then rain Sun. so will try to get outside for awhile. Just got a hitch installed so I can get a bike rack and find new areas to ride, as I am pretty tired of the same old treks around my house.

From WI, cold right now. Last year it was in the 70's.
On a good season you can ride Feb to Dec. On a bad one, early November to April. Save up for an indoor trainer. In the summer if it's really wet out just put it in the garage and open the door. Toss some bird seed out and watch.

I live in a place with weather extremes, so I miss out on riding at least 2-3 months during the winter. (Every year I tell myself I'm going to ride an indoor trainer. That has yet to happen. I'd rather brave the weather and go hiking or skiing.) You're getting in some amazing miles in a short season!
I don't do a lot of organized rides. When I was a student, I couldn't afford to pony up the cash. I do more of them now that I have more disposible income, but I find I don't ride as well on an organized ride. Of course, if I lay off the cookies at the rest breaks, I'd probably do better.
Is there a cycling group in your area aimed at casual riders? That might be a good place to meet other riders. I keep thinking I'm going to find other people to ride with, but I'm kind of a loner. I ride harder with other riders, but I miss the peaceful meditation that comes with a long solo ride.

Hi friends, My name is Luci, a grandma who enjoys cycling as my main form of exercise in the summer, and add other forms in the winter when I have to be active inside here in northern IN. In 2012 from May to Dec, I rode approximately 2400 miles and plan on exceeding that this year because I am starting tracking with January.
