Even though it was sympathy weight that I gained when my ex was pregnant, I did put on another 10-15 pounds and that left me at a hefty 235-240. I was able to get down to 210 lbs and my mileage up from 13 miles per ride to 100 miles. It just takes time and patience (two things I have little of).
When I started seriously cycling in February of 2009, I dropped from 235 to 210 lbs by June of 2009. Then, a motorist struck me while I was cycling on June 30th. I was out of the saddle for 2 months and that put me behind schedule by about 4 months as I was having to basically start all over again with the distance on my rides, plus I'd regained about 10 lbs.
Thanks to cycling, I hold at a steady 209-212. You can do it.
And congratulations on the new addition. Nothing can ever compare to the unending joys of being a parent.
