Spookyrabbit,
I think it is wonderful that you are starting to ride again in your early 60's. I am 51. I started riding again a month ago and I love it. My boyfriend tried running but it was to hard on his joints. My bursitis in my hip is doing so much better now. He got a bike a month earlier than I did. I had been wanting to ride for a long time. Now we both are . We are doing 10 miles right now . Eventually we also want to do some group riding.

Thanks everyone for the welcomes and encouragement. I think I am going to enjoy the bike, you do cover way more ground and it is so much less painful, except for the leg burn. emoticon

I had a hybrid and this summer bought a Trek road bike and I love it. I have already ridden 256 miles on my new bike. I am planning to do the century ride in New Hampshire in September and can't wait! Welcome to the team!!

I started with a hybrid and the bike club (all on road bikes) helped me along. One would stay with me, when I began, eventually I took the hills, never quite the speed of the others, but downhill was fun. After going clipless on the hybrid getting the right clothes, etc. I eventually purchased a road bike. It took a little while to adjust, but I'm off and going. I'm just a few years younger and if I can do it, you can. I use the hybrid for endurance and the road bike for club rides. It's been so much fun.

Welcome!

Welcome. I hope you learn to love biking as much as I do. Much easier on the knees and back than running and you can cover so much more ground!

Trying to stay fit, healthy, happy, and motivated

Hi, I'm just getting started cycling. I use to be a runner but have gotten a hitch in my get-a-long and needed a substitute. I have a hybird bike and went on my first group ride last night and discovered my bike was no match for the racing bikes (it could have been me). I would eventually like to get a racing bike and maybe, if capable, start some racing. Being in my early 60's this may be past my abilities but we'll see.
