Hi Team! My name is Sara. I just bought a road bike last week as a reward for reaching my goal weight. I've started riding a comfort bike all last year as a cross-training activity to running. I really enjoyed it and worked up to riding the comfort bike 14 miles in a hour and that was workout. So the new road bike is awesome, handles and shifts so easily and I can go fast! Since I'm a newbie, I'm looking forward to learning from all of you!

HI Everyone! My name is Candy. I am really new to biking, but I am hooked! I rode a heavy, uncomfortable Walmart bike all last fall until I convinced myself that I was serious and deserved a real bike. Dear old Santa came early and brought me a Hybrid Raleigh and I love it. I plan to ride the entire Katy Trail here in Missouri next fall after working up to it all spring and summer. I look forward to learning a lot from you guys and gals and hope you don't mind having a rookie hanging around.

Got a 60 degree plus ride in today. UNBELIEVABLE in January!!! Woo Hoo!

Hello my name is Joe I'm new to cycling and have been doing it less then 3 months now. Last month I went on my furthest ride yet 25 miles and I'm looking forward to my first event in May I'm only doing the 25 mile lap but it's a start. I have a Hybird Bike and a stationary bike (for the bad weather) and saving up for a road bike. I'm working on riding 2012 miles in 2012 and have already done 53 miles this week. Have fun and hope to see you around Spark.

Hello from south Central PA!
I just joined Spark People and was looking for a forum of outdoor cyclists who just need to keep motivated (especially during the winter!).
I've been riding outdoors (road bike) for two years this March. But I have been a certified Spinning Instructor for 12 years, just took me a long time to get a bike and the nerve (and time) to get on the road to ride.
My first year riding (2010) I started in March and recorded at total of almost 2100 miles that year. This past year (2011) I logged a whopping 7260! Big jump, mainly because I was training for a hard 6 day hilly charity ride in August which was 525 miles in 6 days. That month alone I got almost 1100 miles in.
So....now that I have set my mileage bar rather high, I need to stay motivated, accountable and just DO IT!
Just bought the new Garmin 800 Edge with HR/Cadence sensor, so that little "toy" will help motivate me a bit.
Glad to be here!!

I am new to this forum:

My name is Tony and I live in South Florida. I have been commuting to work (13 Miles round trip) since the summer 2011. My son returned home from college and I gave him my car which gave me the motivation to do it. I have cycled over 1000 miles since July.

I own a GT hard tail. I am looking to fellowship with like minded enthusiasts. I am interested in learning about road bikes and car carriers if anybody has any input.

How does the milage tracking work on the team goals? Does it automatically log it when I put it on my fitness page?

Thanks

Hello All. I'm new to SP but have always ridden a bicycle to work or school, since I was a kid. I don't own a car so it's either bike or walk (smile). I don't race or compete in any way- it's just transportation for me.

I live in Missouri so I'm a year round commuter. My goal is just to meet others online who have a positive outlook, that's pretty much it.

Have a happy and safe New Year!

Dee

Hey All,

I just got my first bike as an adult last February. I enjoyed it tons this past year, but now I am thinking about doing a race (maybe a hilly or perhaps a duathalon) and thought I should find some biking folks to hit with random questions.

I live in Indiana, which means biking is kinda done for the year (but I still sneak in chilly rides when the weather is nice).

Ride on!

Hello, everyone! I am new to cycling as an adult! I got my Christmas present a few weeks early--I am now the proud owner of a beautiful hybrid Diamondback cycle! I've been off SP for about a year but am working on getting back on track. My goal is to lose 25 pounds by my next birthday, which is in July. I've never been a runner (my back doesn't like it!) but riding--what a great alternative! I live in Vegas, where the weather is conducive to riding year-round. NO MORE EXCUSES!!

Check out my page for more info about me. Glad to be here with fellow cycling enthusiasts!!

Hello all,
I'm new to the team, but have been cycling since 2003. I have gone from 120 miles a week to maybe 50 miles a week(kind of why I'm here). I mainly commute to work and mainly ride a fixed gear and wish there was a track nearby.

Hello, I am fairly new to Spark people and to riding. I have been riding a bike for fun for years, but just started riding as a commute to work last week. I have 2 bikes, they are both beach cruisers. On is an electra June 3 speed. The other is a Trek Classic Cruiser. I love them both. I am looking at getting a hybrid or 7 speed comfort bike soon to use on a more daily basis for my ride to work (5.65 miles each way)

My Fiance and I like to go to the beach and ride. We ride about 20 miles when we do, We also ride about 24 miles one day a week together. He is far more advanced than I am, rides about 30 miles a day. But when we ride together it is so much fun.

Hi ,

I am new. I have a terratrike rover 8 on layaway. I hope to pick it up in a few weeks. I want to ride in a ten mile charity event with my sister's family next summer. I have been riding a recumbent exercycle since Dec and have worked up to 35 minutes. I can ride for 55 but usually do 35.

Looks like I introduced myself in the wrong place. Don't worry I'll get this figured out. I am interested in improving my cycling skills because I did a triathlon last week, and simply got killed on the biking part. I finished next to last because literally everyone passed me on the cycling portion. It was my best time ever, but just couldn't keep up with the serious cyclists. I'm entering a 32 mile ride with hills in a month. Just looking for tips and advice to improve my cycling skills.

Looks like a nice group, so joined today. I tend to cross train a lot and did LOTS of duathlons over the years. I ride both road/mtn bikes and often feel the need for speed. No matter what life hands deals and how old I get, when I get on a bike ~ I'm a kid again.

Don't feel bad, I'll be stuck with stationary cycling only for MONTHS this winter. Lucky I like snowshoeing and winter walking in general (unless its icy).

Hi I'm Kelly and I'm pretty new to world of cycling. I'm riding now for the first time since I was 19 (I'm 28) and it's not easy for my out of shape butt but boy is it fun! So far I can only go about 8 miles and that's with a rest in between each 4 mile stretch (I ride to my local library and back when I can). Once school is not an issue again (not until next spring unfortunately...mostly because of ice and snow, I don't expect next semester to be particularly difficult) I'm going to get out exploring the bike paths.

Hello Everyone! I recently bought my first road bike back in May! I thought it would be a great way to get into shape and lose some weight! I unfortunately I let laziness get ahold of me and I haven't been riding my bike as much as I should. My goal for summer was 1200km, and I'm only at 550km. I better get riding!

Hi everyone! My husband has me into cycling again after 30 years of being out of it. I'm up to about 7 miles (but I'm kind of sore today! LOL). I will be having to do the stationary bicycle since I'm out of town all next week... Hopefully the hotel has a good exercise room... I need to keep up now that I'm doing it. I'm looking forward to watching this forum!

I have just joined spark people. I need to get moving and stay moving. I used to ride alot 20 years ago...but with kids and jobs....I am just in terrible shape. I have started riding my mountian bike a couple of miles a day. I want to keep going like this for a week or two and then up the mileage slowly. I would like to get back on a roadbike as I really love the way they ride. My goal is to get up to 5 miles a day before I get back on a road bike.

Hi biking buddies. I'm Rachel and just got a new bright yellow commuter bike. i love it so far. it is only 7 gears but i am learning when to shift gears and have already noticed my legs are getting stronger. this is the end of my second week biking to work 4-5 times a week. i have even ventured to the store for groceries but that was are more difficult packing home in a back pack. i have enjoyed the summer weather and coasting down hills. i cant wait for my next chance to bike. maybe to visit friends or family.

Hi team! I'm Amira, and have been Sparking for about a year and a half. I haven't actually taken the leap into road cycling yet, but I've been Spinning for almost 4 years. I'm an avid runner and just ran my first marathon in May, and now want to start thinking about duathlons and maybe tris. Right now I'm looking to buy my first road bike and I don't have a clue where to start! Any tips on what to look for in a first bike? Nothing too fancy but that will still last me for a few years.
Thanks!!

Hello all! I'm excited to find this SparkTeam. I love cycling! I have a Day 6 bike, it's a semi-recumbent and very comfortable to ride. There's a picture of it on my SparkPage if anyone is interested. Hubby and I have had these bikes for a little over three years now and I've put nearly 3,500 on mine. My longest ride ever is 52 miles in one day, then 52 miles back the next day. I don't go fast but I like to go far.

I've been sparking for about nine months now and have lost ninety pounds total (45 in the past nine months). It's amazing how much better I am feeling, and I'm in clothing sizes I haven't seen in over 20 years, so it's pretty exciting!

Glad to "meet" all of you and looking forward to getting to know you all!

Hey all! I have been doing a lot of self realization and decided that bicycling was one thing that I really enjoy. Growing up I always loved getting out there and riding my bike. When my husband (at the time boyfriend) decided to get a Gary Fischer bike I inherited his Specialized Mountain Bike. I tried riding trails with him a couple times but didn't find it enjoyable. Many years have passed with riding short distances off and on.

Recently I made the decision to ride up to the local park and back which was 11 miles. Then I read someones blog about cranking out some miles and decided I was going to double that distance; riding 22 miles. And I did....and there were hills that I thought were out to kill me. I felt awesome afterwards. Yes, I was sore the next day but once I got moving I didn't even notice.

The next ride I wanted to do the same thing but realized that it just wasn't going to happen. My body was tired and hadn't been fueled properly so I did 10 miles instead.

I now have it in my mind that I will do a century ride and become a distance rider. After doing some perusing here I realize I still have a lot to learn. I need to learn how to maintain my bike, get the proper equipment to carry with me, etc.

You guys rock with all the information you share!

Micki

Hi everyone! I found spark people about 1 month ago, and can truly say it has changed my life. then, about 2 weeks ago a friend re-introduced me to riding, and that has been amazing. I went from huffing and puffing, to riding 13 milks last weekend, going for 15 this Sat, and hitting 8-9 mile rides 3-4 mornings of the week. It is great to hook up with like minded people, I cannot wait to hear your goals and victories, as well as share my own.

Hello. I have been with SP for over a year, and initially started most of my cardio on my bike (which was new then) and the child trailer. After all the heaving and breathlessness and very short rides (under 5 miles), we moved (other reasons) and now my baby can ride the kiddy tandem attached to my bike. Holy cow it's so much easier!!!!! Then I also get to ride some days without an attachment, and I feel like I'm flying. I love it! My miles won't ever compare to the serious ones here, but I work it when I can, and biking isn't my concentration. I've already read a couple of the posts that are informative, and I'm realizing that there's so much I don't know. Keep it up team!

Hi all! I'm Sandy and I'm new to the biking thing; I find it much easier to get motivated to get on my bike than to get out and run! I'm only doing a couple miles/ride so far and I'm excited to hear all of your tips and motivation!!

Hello,
By way of introduction, I'm just about to complete 7 weeks since joining SP with the aim of increasing my fitness levels and shed some superfluous pounds of fat. So one of the changes I made was to get the bike out of the shed and start riding it - around the country lanes of the UK where I live. Hope you don't mind a 'learner , (who's speeds and distance are now improving) joining the team !

Greetings all, I decided to join this team just as I've gotten back into cycling.

Former runner, then I had hip surgery in Dec. Doc said to ease up on the running for at least a year, so I joined the cycling tribe.

Getting the mileage up slowly....30-50 miles a week for now. But I'm digging every minute of it and have blogged about my new found joy of biking for 2 days in a row....that was a sign to find a good team or 2

Hi, I am new to SP but I have biked a long time. Just street bike rides, I am not used to the racing bike life. I just updated my bike, using it for transport to the bus stop works great! No parking permits or parking tickets are needed in my day.
