Hi, my name is Sherri, I'm 50 years old, married, 5 grown children and 3 grandchildren. I've been with Spark people for quite a while, came within kissing distance of my goals...and then over the past few years have pretty much dealt with one "crisis" after another and let my focus shift into just doing what I had to do to get through.
We lost our house a while back, have spent much of the past year trying to fix up a foreclosure and make it livable even as I commute to a full time job that's 60 miles away. Needless to say it's been slow going. Also tough to find time to actually get in a workout. But I'm feeling determined to get back to my programs and start meeting some new goals.

Hello everyone! My name is Pam, I am 56 and I have been a SP member since 9/2011. I browsed and even posted a few times but never got active here until I reached my goal. At that point, after posting on another's post I was invited to a 'Transition to Maintenance' team here on SP and decided to join the forum to keep the motivation going while trying to maintain. Maintenance has been a priority in my planning and process since I began losing weight this last time. I am planning on making this the LAST time I have to lose 100+ lbs. (This is my second round--20 years apart).

Back to the Frugal and Simple living . . . I love being with like minded people and believe that this forum reflects my values and lifestyle choices to some degree. My husband and I were married in 1977 and were part of the 'back-to-the-land' movement so prevalent at that time. We planted a garden, raised most of our meat and eggs--organically. We've bought our wheat from a local farmer and ground our own flour and made our bread products. We can, dry or freeze our produce. We even tried the outhouse and drawing water from a well, although after about 3 years decided to add plumbing and running water and a bathroom to our home that we built ourselves. Most of the house was built paycheck by paycheck--it took us 10, highly committed, years to do so. In the end we had a nice 2000 sq. ft. house and NO mortgage. We borrowed just enough to pay off the piece of land we had bought a few years earlier, dug a well, put in a septic system, added plumbing. It took us only 5 years to pay off the loan. It is not always an easy life, but the rewards have been worth it. When I see a new generation embracing our same values, it is an even more precious reward.

Someone coined the phrase of "walking softly on the earth" and that has been my mantra for these last 36 years. I have made it a habit to consider most of my actions and how they affect me, my family, other people and our planet--in word, action and deed! My husband and I believe in using less, reusing what we can, repurposing and recycling.

I am looking forward to learning and sharing periodically, and hope to make new friends along the way. Glad to be here.

Hello! My name is Becky; I am 46 and single. I joined on March 5 but just found this wonderful page/team. I need to learn how to live simply and frugally. I have a lot of debt to pay, most of which was incurred by eating lunch out every day and impulse purchases. This can get very expensive. So now I have debt to pay, live check to check, and need to lose 87 pounds. But I feel I've turned over a new leaf. I brought my lunch to work yesterday and today. I've created a budget for myself. And I have started to read Dave Ramsey.

I look forward to "meeting" all of you!!!
