Hi, I no longer work due to health issues & DH will be retiring in another year. I grow some vegetables in container gardens & have a Mulberry tree & some raspberry canes in our back yard. Children are grown but seem to come back here for long periods of time while getting life back on track. I sew, knit, crochet & several other crafts. Babysit my 2 youngest GDs(ages 2.5 & 1) 3 days a week while DS & DIL work. Trying to change spending habits. I buy lots of things on sale for grandkids, like clothes, shoes, school supplies etc & need to stop as while our income will be dropping some, we would like to start doing some things together. Trying to stay on a buget. While I spend within our income & save some I do overspend in some areas and need to stop. We got into the habit have helping our kids & lent money that probably won't be paid back. Need people to call me on the spending. Hope you will help me.
I love old farm houses, they have so much character. And to be able to remodel it your way with all the new amenities I'm sure it will be beautiful when you get it completed. I lived in a 100 yr old farm house for several yrs before any remodeling was done to it.
Hope you enjoy the team and look forward to seeing you here.
Greetings from the Prairie! The children are grown and gone (or so we think!). My husband and I raise our own poultry for food. We have a large garden each year. (My husband is a master sauer kraut maker.) We are remodeling a 90 year old farmhouse. My husband is doing all of the work. Doors, flooring, even the 1911 claw foot bathtub has been recycled out of other houses. He even built cabinetry out of a cedar tree from his parent's shelter belt of trees. The older we get, the more we enjoy the simple pleasures of home and hearth. Many blessings and glad to be part of the Frugalists and simple living group.
Hi- I am back to sparking after a 4+ year baby break. I am a SAHM to an almost 4 year old DD and a 21 month old DS. As a SAHM I do what I can to help keep our household on a budget. We do our best to lead a green and frugal lifestyle. Our house is predominantly furnished with stuff from craigslist, estate sales, freecycle, etc. We use cloth diapers for the baby, try to avoid paper towels- use rags and tea towels instead, plastic bags and all other "disposable" items like that. It's hard to keep things simple since our children are the only grandchildren of both my parents and my ILs, but I have challenged myself to get rid of 100 things in our house during the month of Feburary- not counting every sock as a thing- just dropped off a bag of stuff to Goodwill and had a TV that had not been used in years (my DH had it from before we got married) picked up by the VVA yesterday. Trying to get a jump on spring cleaning!
