Hello Everyone,

New the the team . . . Bought a house just over a year ago and planning to start a family soon so now is the time to establish a better family budget. We don't have tons of debt, but we recently noticed that we're spending just a bit beyond our means. We're carrying about $1500 on credit cards right now and know we can make some adjustments to get it all back in balance. Looking forward to reading everyone's strategies!

Spark helped me reach my goal weight so hopefully it can also help me get my budget on track :)

My sister is a quilter and she also has 3 machines, She taught sewing until there was not any clothing or fashion industry hardly left in AU. I have always been fat so needed to make my own clothes for many years as large sizes were difficult to buy.

I am frugal but not cheap ... LOL.... meaning that I will spend good money on something I want if it's reasonably priced. I really don't like shopping all that much --- but I'm a quilter/sewer, so somehow I'm a fabric and sewing machine magnet. I own three different machines and none of them was "cheap"... only a quilter/sewer will understand.

I am 61 and just celebrated 43 years of marriage with my DH. We have three grown sons and five grandchildren that we adore. I am REALLY looking forward to retiring in a couple of years. I work for the local school district in a clerical position. I have been a "penny pincher" all of my life.... looking for bargains and great deals... used to make all of my clothes but that is no longer the cheapest option. I love all of the ideas posted by this group. Looking forward to participating and getting to know all of you better.

Hello, hello! I'm also a college student who will be graduating next Spring and will have to start paying off student loans. (ugh!) I know I need to tighten my belt on my spending (and literally) so I joined this group for some support. I'm hoping to eventually get my Ph.D. in Anthropology, but that'll be after a year or two of working and, hopefully, getting things published.

Remember there are shades of gray everywhere. Not everything is black and white.

Hey Everyone,

I'm a college student trying to go to medical school. Seeing as how I'm going to be broke for the next 8 years, I'm a frugalist. I'm also trying to lose this weight that I've been struggling with all my life.

Congratulations to everyone who is losing. Cheers to everybody like me who is just beginning.
Keep up the great work and stay positive. emoticon

Hi, I'm KT from Ontario, California. I am a married mother of 2 (one of each). Lani is 8, Kels is 3. I'm a kindergarten teacher in Chino, and have been a teacher for 11 years. My family and I live in a very small historic house in downtown Ontario. Our house really is too small for us, but we make do with two bedrooms. The best part of the house is the storage, which is also a curse because each nook and cranny is filled with stuff that I haven't been able to get rid of yet. I'm trying! We live on my one income, which has become very strained due to the current state of education's budgets. My husband stays home with our son in order to cut childcare costs. He'll be going to a city-run preschool in August--two days a week. That's not expensive.

I am not frugal by nature, nor is my husband. However, I was raised, and still belong, to a wonderful church that stresses simple living, frugality, sustainability as ways of life. I'm getting better at things, and I find that I no longer want all those things that are stored either in the garage, the loft, the workroom, or the basement. I'm working on emptying out stuff, but it takes sooo long!

I'm not exactly sure what this means to different people, but from what I read, it seems that we are living debt-free. Our only crazy thing is the credit card--we can't seem to keep from using it! Our only other thing is our mortgage--does that count as a debt? LOL

Finally, I've been with Sparkpeople for years, now, beginning when my daughter was 3 years old. I'm still about 7 pounds from my goal and I'm currently frustrated with a plateau. I can't seem to get lower than 130! Grrrr!!!! I have a condition called PCOS, which behaves like Diabetes, so I really have to watch it.

I'm glad this team is here! I hope to learn more ways to be simple, frugal and to help the environment by reducing my footprint considerably.

Happy 4th of July to all the Americans here! :) Happy weekend to everyone!

Hello :) I'm Dunk. I grow a lot of my own fruit and veg (am in the middle of installing raised vegetable beds this year), I try to cook from scratch a lot and I'm recently embarked on de-cluttering my house - I have a LOT of books which I'm loathe to cull, but I ran out of bookshelf space some time ago. I try to keep my environmental footprint as small as possible, which is an ongoing project.

Hello, I'm Rachel. I just entered the "real world". I'm fresh out of college, and just started my full-time job. I've always been conscience about money, and I believe I am good with saving up. My goal is to limit my spendings and be able to pay off my student loans and make sure I have enough money around in a few years when I decide to move out of my parents' house.

This is a new beginning in my life. What path I take now, will take me where I end up later on. I want a fresh start by getting in better shape, and make sure I start saving up, and what better place to do it than here!

Hi and welcome Pat, Michelle, Tamika and Nancy.
I hope you have some tips to share with us.

We CAN reverse years of damage to our bodies by deciding to raise our standards for ourselves, then living differently. Old wounds heal, injuries repair, and the whole system improves with just a few changes in what we put into our bodies and how we move them.

I am really glad I found this team. I have been struggling with my weight for a long time and am having trouble getting started with consistency.

I do like living simple. I would like to become more frugal and make the most of what I have instead of always accumulating more.

Hello! I'm new to this team, but not new to Sparkpeople. I'm outgoing by nature, but I spend more time IRL than on the computer so it might appear that I'm silent or shy, and that's not the case. Living simply is a relatively new goal, and I still have a lot of "baggage" and extras to trim from my lifestyle. I have come a long way in the past five years. I paid off my last credit card this month. This is the first time in five years I've been "unsecured debt" free. (TMI, probably, but I worked so hard, I can't help but be a little bit proud.) Don't be shy; I don't bite.

I'm not sure I'm replying to the right place in this thread, so a thousand apologies in advance to the moderators if I'm putting this in the wrong thread. Thanks!

I am frugal by nature, that is when I am not spending buying things I don't need. Otherwise I reuse containers and prepare most food. I don't like to pay for convienence!

emoticon Everyone,

As soon as I saw the name of this team, I knew I'd be joining. My personal lifestyle is based on the principles of frugality and simplicity. I always get great satisfaction from enjoying and appreciating the simple pleasures of life--without ever feeling like I am depriving myself. I read a lot of articles these days about the difference between "wants and needs", and learning to distinguish between the two has been very beneficial to me.

I look forward to getting to know you all better as I become more actively involved.

Hi Everyone, I just joined this group maybe 2 days ago...I've been so busy, I forgot to introduce myself! I'm Trisha, Trish, Tricia or Patricia, whatever is easiest to remember, LOL. I'm from southern California in the IE. I am 26 years old, I am married to DerrickR333, we've been married over 8 years now. We have 3 beautiful children; Eve 7, MJ 4 and Ollie is 1. My goal is to lose 30lbs/get back into a size 10...and so far I'v lost 10lbs and I'm in a 11/12! Just 2 short months ago I was a 14/16--so I've been busting my ass since Jan, but have only been using SP since April. I'm looking for SPBuddies, friends and even FB friends! Take Care!

Hi. I am new as of the end of April. I am a mother to two boys 3 and 1. I have been married for almost 5 years now to my high school sweetheart. We live on a tight budget with no room for anything extra (paycheck to paycheck is a severe understatement). We have had some big problems in the past, Job loss (no surprise here in the great state of Michigan), struggling to find work, no baby sitter (I gave up on that one, I am staying home with my kids until they are in school at least, at least I will know that they will not sit in front of a TV all day). We have downsized all of our entertainment because of our money situation. No going out to eat (if we do, it's been once a month if that), no cable/satellite/basic stations, and unless it is within walking distance, no trips to places unless it is a necessity. We are working on recycling our products and using them for other things. Right now we started potting our garden until the threat of frost is gone, and instead of using a bunch of pots that we would have to go out and buy, we are using juice bottles and milk cartons for now. Looks terrible, but who cares! Easy clean up, lightweight, and we aren't wasting money on a bunch of new stuff the kids could knock over and break.

Hi everyone. I just joined SP this month and found this team today. emoticon I have two teenage boys and a new live-in boyfriend; they are all trying to adjust to my new simplistic view on life. My New Year's resolution was not to loose weight, but rather to cut my annual spending by 10%. I have come to a point in my life where money is no longer as important in how people see me, but my own happiness is where true success lies. It started with making my own laundry soap and hand soap. Now it is working on becoming a small business. On top of lowering my spending, I am increasing my revenue so it can be put aside for retirement. I look forward to talking with y'all and learning new tricks. emoticon

Hi Everyone! I am a mother of 2 girls and a step-mom to a boy and a girl (though we don't see them very often due to distance). I was lucky enough to marry an amazing man the second time around and even with all the struggles in life we have endured, I wouldn't change my life for anything :) I am a frugalist at heart and amuse my husband often with the new ways I find to be frugal...or as he says, cheap! lol Of course, he jumped on the bandwagon a little too when I introduced him to the joys of thrift store shopping. We search out good ones and he loves it. He won't spend retail on clothes for anything anymore! So, I am still learning a lot and enjoying finding new ways to live more simply and spend less. I really want to be a better steward of our finances...we're still working on that "impulse buying" problem, lol.
