Hi and welcome! What I would do is this...go to the upper left hand corner to "Tools" click on Nutrition. This will open up your daily meals tracker. I use it before eating, I input my food items in the breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks menus, this helps to see where you are at in eating too much or not enough. First you change your nutrition goals by clicking on the small icon next to the "add food" lable on the page of the tracker, it is here that you can input your weight, height, if you are pre-diabetic, diabetic or regular eating plan. It will tell you how much of what to eat. Also research online to find a analyzer that when you type in your weight and height it will tell you how many calories it takes just to exist at your current weight, this is without exercise. Then you figure out how much to cut back on calories. For example for me it takes 2451 calories to live daily, without exercise. So, if I want to lose 1 lb every 4 days, I cut back to 1600 calories daily. Why? Because it takes 3500 calories to make 1 pound. So, cutting back 800 calories a day x 4 makes 3200 calories less for your body, which means in 4 days and a half I lose ONE lb!!! Now, you have to count everything you put in your mouth. If it isn't in the main food databank, you can add your own and save it to your favorites. I know it's overwhelming, as a matter of fact I had joined a year before actually coming back and I gave up because it was confusing for me. Please do not do this, it set me back a year that I could have reached my goal weight. Instead, I prolonged it another year!!! Please, if I can continue to help you, add me as a friend and ask me anytime you have a question. SparkPeople is the best and most unique place for achieving your weightloss goals! Hugs

But if you track your food, you will learn ways to improve what you eat. I have also found exercise to be vital.

I am very new to this site & am finding it hard to navigate. So I will keep finding my way around & hopefully something will happen. I'm very excited to begin this new journey, but if I can't figure out how to use this site, I know I will get discouraged & just give up. Any suggestions?
