Hi
I initially joined this team a few months ago and dropped; I wasn't doing anything towards my goal of doing a tri.
I volunteered at a tri last week and I really really want to do one so I'm back.
Big problem is the swim part

Hi Everyone,

I used to be a century cyclist in my teens and 20s and still love swimming. I have an old knee injury that prevents me from running without paying heavily for it the following few days.

I'm up to the point of spinning for an hour 2x/week and have begun riding outside again.

I've started doing laps before water aerobics to get more cardio in and just did a half mile on Wed.

SO... I've decided to train for the 2010 Aquabike portion of the local half-iron that is held every July: www.musselmantri.com

If they had an aquabike sprint, I would consider doing it next month, because I'm sure I could complete it. I'm kind-of chicken, though, and don't want to invest in a short wetsuit that I would just have to replace when I lose the rest of the weight. By July next year I should be much much closer to my goal weight.

So instead I'll just go for the long course on the two sports that I can safely do. :-)

Which is why I'm here, to learn from you all and keep the motivation for the next 12 months...

Never, ever, EVER give up!

From BMI 53 (336 lbs) to under 30. Now aiming for less than 20% body fat.

Greetings! I joined my local Y last month and just realized that the activities I'm gravitating most to are cycling, swimming and (well, walking for now). I've never done a triathalon before and thought it would be a fun goal. I'm going to begin jogging today. Currently, I stationary cycle for 60 min about 3 times a week, and swim 1/4 to 1/2 a mile three times a week. While I do some walking, jogging will be a new adventure. I promise I'll take it slow and careful!

Hey Everyone! I have always wanted to do a triathlon or a duathlon, but something would always come up. This time I am going to do it! I am going to give myself a year to train. So any advise or direction you all can give me would be most appreciated!
Thanks!

Hi all. A bit of a latecomer to triathlon having discovered it only 5 years ago following a challenge after losing a ton of weight. First event was a super-sprint in London and learnt 2 lessons: 1. don't try even a short distance tri with only 3 months training after 25 years of being a couch potato 2. It only takes one event to get you hooked!! Try to set myself a new goal each year: first was to compete at olympic distance (2006), second was to get into GB age group team (2007), last year was to do the London Marathon and this year it is to do the Alpe d'Huez triathlon (this in in the French Alps and essentially is swim at the bottom of the mountain, cycle straight up(!!) emoticon and run round the top. Its not till end July and if I live to tell the tale, I'll report back on the experience! Triathlon is just such a fantastic (and friendly) sport - wish I'd discovered it earlier.

I am training with a group at my gym. It is very motivating. I am still nervous about the swim--my sprint tri swim is only 400 meters, but I still can't make it more than 100 without stopping. I have until April and people keep telling me it will get easier, but I am not fully convinced!

goal 2-weigh less than 145 by Valentine's Day-MET!
goal 3-weigh less than 140 by Easter-not met until May 25.
goal 4-weigh 135 by July 4. met June 29, 2008

Hi - I just joined SparkPeople - recommended by a good friend and fellow triathlete. I am training for Ironman CDA - this will be my second time. In June 2007 I finished in 16:43 - the cutoff is 17 hours. My goal is to be down to 130 by June 21 finish in less than 14 hours. Brandy - I see that you are training for Arizona. Is this your first Ironman? How do you get that cool weight graph on your posts?

GOTSCOTT1--what kind of information do you need/want? I would google some tri sites, find a tri close to your home. Let me know how I can help.

Hello my fellow triathaletes! I never imagined I would ever be including myself as a trithalete. I am so thankful to a friend who pushed me (kicking and screaming, and denying that I could ever complete a triathalon !) I am really hooked. For the past 2 years I have done only super sprint also called "try a tri" distances (400m swims) This year I have set a goal to do a regular sprint distance tiathalon with an 800 m swim. I hope to also be a part of a relay for a longer distance swim. We'll see. I have learned alot about myself through triathaloning and look forward to the challenges of a new season. I hope to be able to pick up a few good tips from our group and perhaps share some of my own with you. Good luck to all of you - you can do it!

Sounds like you are doing great Mike!! As for praising God--it wouldn't hurt any of us to do that more often!! I started swimming this week for the first time in about 20 years and it was actually fun. I am training for a sprint tri and the swim is only 400 yards, so I think I may actually be able to do it without drowning. Good luck to you!

This is my first post in the Triathlete section.
I have had great success with my weight loss and fitness goals and am feeling very encouraged.

I hit the pool for the first time in over a year two days ago and swam again today after biking. Feeling great for 50 years old :-) ... Not going to get too spiritual on anyone but I PRAISE GOD for allowing my this blessing during this season of my life when I am facing a divorce.

Anyhow, I am registered to do the Chicago Triathlon and plan on doing Memphis in May as well.

Look forward to being a more active participant in the group.

Mike

Hello

Just joined Sparks about a week ago. I'm trying to lose a few pounds before I start my 2009 training. Looking forward to signing up for my first HIM in June. Tris are great fun. It's given my husband and I something to do together as well since we don't get much golf in these days w/ 2 little ones at home.

For great websites to find info and track training, try beginnertriathlete.com.

Hi everyone, I'm Sarah. I will be doing my first Tri in July. My sister is the one who turned me on to it. I'm looking for some motivation and some tips on workouts. I had my second baby in April, so I have a lot of work to do before my race.

Hi, all!

I'm new to the team and fairly new to the site. I've completed a grand total of one tri (in 2007) and let my "off season" stretch for about 12 months. I'm working to get back into racing shape with my next race slated for 2009.

I look forward to getting to know you all.

Start now, today. The only way to see the view from the mountain top is to climb it, even if you can only go a few feet at a time.

My name is Staci. I am working to lose the last 15 to 20 pounds remaining from my 3 babies. I have completed 2 sprint triathlons and am hoping to do another this Spring. I am debating whether I have time to train properly with my busy schedule. I have been battling a cold for the past 2 weeks, and I finally felt SICK this weekend. I look forward to having a place to discuss with others who have similar fitness goals to my own.

Hi Judith,
The cool thing about Danskin is that they have training groups you can join to work out with others and get coaching, and learn how to TRI before the big day. The Danksin event is amazing and the support you get will blow you away. I strongly suggest you go to the meetings they have well in advance of the tri to hear about it and get motived and maybe get some training. It's decently priced and VERY good. Congratulations on embarking on this adventure. Danskin 2007 in Denver as my first one last year. You could get addicted!!

I am new to the world of spark and triathlon. Thought it would be fun to find others who are here to get a healthier lifestyle and also Tri.

In July 2007 I completed my first sprint distance and this summer have plans to do at least three more sprints and MAYBE an olympic distance. In April 2008 i am running a half marathon to help get my mind in shape for Tri season. I joined a women's tri team to get the coaching, but I still have to work on my mental toughness on my own.

What is your story? :)
