Hello my name is Jennifer , I have been self taught Belly Dancer mostly with home videos over the years, I would love to take a class and really commit. It is such a beautiful kind of dancing. I would also like to learn Tahitian dance as well. I am 41 (will be 42 this year) I have 3 kids now almost adults and been married for 24 years. I would love to learn to surf too! I have roughly 89 lbs to lose and have been on the diet roller coaster for years, gained most of my weight during pregnancy and it never came off. I have to learn how to stay commited even when stress and crisis come, my biggest obstacles. I'm tired of carrying this extra body around and look forward to seeing what I really look like lol! Blessings to everyone on their journey!

Sooo happy to have found your team! Im a Wt Watchers lifetime member, having lost over 20 lbs around 5 yrs ago, and continue to do strength and condit classes, elliptical, walking etc. I no longer journal, so kind of lost touch with spark until now....I have decided to add a Belly Dancing workout to my routine, as Ive tried a few moves, watched a few utube videos and LOVE it! I just ordered "Luscious" the belly dance for begin workout, so excited about that. Anyway, Im a 61 yr old grandma, but still able to do a few moves! Will continue to ck in!

Well, I am a single mother of 3 boys 20, 17 and 4. I am 41 yrs old and I have never taken any classes or dance publicly before. I have a Belly Dance Basic for Beginners by Neena and Veena Badasha that I have had for years and hasn't had as much use at it should have had. I have been morbidly obese for years now and just couldn't keep up with the tape. I have been signed up with sparkpeople since 2011 but just became active again last month with more determination and resolve to loses weight and get healthy. I have worked my way up to the 3 mile walks with Leslie Sansone and I love them.. But I am looking for some verity so that I don't become board and just stop. I work out 6 days a week and have lost 10.6 lbs since I came back. I am looking forward to learning more about belly dancing and make new spark friends to share the journey with. Please stop by my sp pg and say hi.

Tammy

Ps: I also don't have a belly dance name so I will have to give it some thought and get back to everyone.

My name is Chris, I took my first bellydance class about 8 years ago, but only started dancing regularly about 2 years ago. I dance in the Mystic Star Fusion Belly Dance Troupe. We mostly dance for fun, we are led by a friend who has danced for years, but is not in instructor. In December, I purchased Dolphina's Goddess Workout DVD set. I have mostly been using the Intro to Bellydance and Cardio Bellydance dvd's and am really loving the Cardio Bellydance, in particular. I'm finding that dancing with the videos is really helping my technique and confidence and am starting to get excited about the effect it's having on my body. Starting to get more comfortable about the idea of performing (we have performed as a troupe, and it was fun, but I didn't feel great about my personal performances). My dance name is "Sohalia (Moonglow)".

Hello fellow dancers! I've been belly dancing for roughly 10 years, I did american cabaret for quite a few year and then started doing ATS and tribal fusion in 2007 after seeing the amazing Rachel Brice perform.
I really love to dance and try to spend as much time as I can in classes and working with DVDs at home.
I'm also a yoga instructor and use yoga to compliment my dance practice, recently I've also been trying to add in some pilates and other strength training for even more conditioning goodness.

I'm so happy that I've found what looks like the belly dance central on here! looking forward to reading about everyone's shimmy adventures! yip! emoticon

Hello Everyone!
I am 24 (only for a couple more weeks though!!), a mom of a toddler with another baby due in six and a half weeks! Married to my best friend and a full-time student! My life is a little hectic at the moment!
I started belly dancing when my son was about three months old as a way to lose some of my baby weight. I haven't been able to get back to class for a while now due to being pregnant and not always having the money for the classes but I do have some videos I practice with at home and sometimes I just turn on some music and move around my house!
I look forward to getting to know everyone!
Cheers!

Hello, again. My name is Leigh. I've been belly dancing since Sept 2010. I am an art teacher by day and a "retired" hoop dancer. I pretty much put down my hoop and picked up a hip scarf! LOL! I assist teach belly dance and I teach hula hoop when I am not working my day job.
Anyways, I left spark... Oh idk how long it's been. I have a love hate relationship with spark. But I want to lose 10 pounds so.....
Anyways, glad to be back here with you all. I really hope to be on the boards more.

HAZAAAAAAaa me fello sparkers. I decided today to give spark another try. But this time spend less time here and more doing things being active. About me? well I am in Colorado, yay, I love it here and am newly married. Very fortunate to have a hubby not mind my fitness goals as, I do tend to obsess over them. I began bellydancing about oh 4 months ago. I loved it so much I went crazy and bought lots of lovely clothing to wear for the classes but I am to scared to wear em. lol I have also signed up for lessons with 2 other instructors for dance. and love it all. I do hope to one day soon be a member of a troup and perform. Mostly I love dancing as it has helped me look at myself in a new beautiful light.

Hello! I am Elle. I am 26 years old and I've always admired belly dancers but I've always avoided it out of fear of looking silly. I finally have a DVD and did 20 minutes of it today, I am HORRIBLE with isolating my abs and rolling it lol. My goal is to learn the roll lol. I decided to do belly dance on my off days in between my hard cardio/ST days

Hello! I found belly dancing about 3 yrs ago- my daughter (just turned 18) and I took a class and fell in love. We move a lot though and had some money issues so we've taken classes off and on. I am drawn toward tribal fusion :)
I have DVD's but need to find the motivation to USE them. Sadly-it's like I want to dance-but have no desire to do it with the TV : /
I am hoping to find some motivation and hopefully find a teacher here in the Albuquerque area (everyone I found seems to have moved to another state)

Hello! I'm Erin, living in Florida. I've been bellydancing since 2000 intermittently but stopped when I moved here from VA in 2008. The choices of classes around here are slim, but I LOVE bellydance and would really like to get back into it in the new year.

Hey everyone! My name is Ansley and I have been doing ATS Belly dancing for a year and a half and been doing tribal fusion for about 6 months now. I absolutely love belly dancing more than anything else. I've only had one performance so far but that's ok, soon I will get to dance with the troupe I take classes from. Also looking forward to 3rd Coast Tribal coming up in about a week!

As Mae West once said "It's better to be looked over, than over looked".

Hi there, my name is Jen. I love what little belly dance I have gotten to do! I have several videos that I indulged in, and I got to do 2 workshops over the summer at a festival. One of my goals is to start working with my videos at least once a week. I used to dance ballet when I was a kid, and I have found that I have an easier time doing a dance "workout" dvd than I do doing any other kind of indoor workout. I have only found a few belly dance instructors in the area, andI will be checking them out soon.

Good evening! I'm Bridget! Online, however, I go by Artsy.

I started belly dancing several years ago when I was a freshman in college. Belly dancing was new and exciting for me because a) I live in a small, narrow-minded town in North Dakota and this was something to use as a rebellion and b) I found that belly dancing as a large woman was something that was empowering for me.

I joined a small troupe in my town until our leader left the state and returned home after some personal problems. I continued to dance at home in my spare time and it was just a fun then.

I do use DVDs at home to help hone my dancing, but I'm still very much a novice. I'm hoping to be able to learn a lot from this team.

So, hello to everyone! Thank you for having me.

Hello to all! I'm Madeline, I'm 25 and an art student, and have been belly-dancing off and on for going on eight years now. I started off learning Egyptian, but now dance ATS/Tribal Fusion with a small troupe. I'm new to sparkpeople and this team and am excited to get going. I'm using bellydance as my main platform for getting back into shape, so here's to that!

I'm looking forward to getting to know some of you!

My only issue. Im trying to find a hip skirt. Every one that I have found is to small for me. I really want to find one to fit me to help me practing and really get into this. This is my goal and my dream and I'm so excited to be going for it at last... and to lose weight and get in better shape by doing it.

The company is Natural Journeys and I think the web site is just naturaljourneys.com -- Great belly dance DVDS and I like the polynesian and tahitian dance DVDs as well. They are very inexpensive too, like only $5.99! I'm very happy with the ones I have b/c I am blind and I like how the instructors talk the viewer thru each move, so I can follow along! I think they are great for beginners!

Hello! I'm actually just now starting to try to learn to belly dance. I would join a class, but I can't afford it right now, so currently I'm just working on watching a lot of performances/doing video stuff and so on. If anyone has any recommendations for how I can keep going until I'm able to afford a class, I'd love to hear them. Nice to meet you all!

HI all..I've been belly dancing for a little over a year, and I love it. I had an injury in October that stopped me from dancing but I'm looking to get back into it. I like all styles of belly dance. My girls have the Love Your Body approach, however, I want to love my body at a smaller size :) Some of the most amazing costumes come in smaller sizes and my goal is to be able to get into one of those. Look forward to hearing from you all. ~ Jenn

Hi,
My name is Claudette and I live in Central NC... I've been dancing on and off for 10 years more off than on for the past 6 years... I love costuming for others but I don't like dancing in public... terrible stage fright! but I love watching others, including my daughter who is a wonderful performer! 10 years ago I started dancing to lose some weight during a very trying time... BD made me feel beautiful, fit and strong and I am getting back to it since I'm uncomfortable with my current body image. In addition to BD I also love horses. I raise and breed gypsy horses... one of these days I need to get all my gypsy Roma dance friends over for a photo shoot. Wouldn't that be AMAZING?

Hello all! I was so happy to discover a bellydance Spark Team! I've been dancing for approximately 3-4 years, started by learning traditional Egyptian, then studied some Turkish style bellydance, but most of my time has been spent on Tribal Fusion (Rachel style). It is my absolute passion! I've taken many workshops (UnMata, Rachel Brice, Aepril Schaille, Ariellah, Anasma, etc.) been to many BD events, have performed and I always look forward to learning more. I've also recently started learning hoop and poi as well (how the heck do they do that??!!). My absolute favorite teacher is finally moving back to my area in May...so I'm really looking forward to learning more with her. Bellydancing is one thing..but when you have an amazing instructor, it makes a world of difference.

Why am I here? I'd like to lose the weight I've been carrying around for far too long and finally get back to "me". I'd also like to be a stronger dancer. Tribal fusion takes a lot of muscle control with all of the isolations and I'd like to actually see what my belly looks like doing undulations with a little less jiggle on top of it. :)

Look forward to learning/getting to know everyone...have a wonderful day!

So, I was on here a couple years ago and dropped off the radar... things have changed a lot since then, but I'm still dancing! It's been almost 9 years now since I started dancing. I've taken up studying Arabic in the last year or so, and I've done all sorts of crazy non-dance stuff on the side.
Meanwhile...
My ongoing struggle with some mental health issues reached a pretty intense low over the last couple months. I currently weigh the most I've ever weighed- which honestly isn't a worrying number, but is a painful reminder of just how much I was letting an illness control my life. After getting engaged on Christmas day (YAY!), my fiance began gently encouraging me to get out of the job I was in and the town it brought me to, because it was making me absolutely miserable. I took his advice and have been staying with him for the last couple weeks, and am finally feeling a little like myself again.
Now that I'm starting to feel like myself, I would like to LOOK like myself too! So I'm getting back on the horse (or more literally the stage, in two weeks here) and I'm currently riding that wave of fresh determination... but I'm on the hunt for some dance sisters to help give me a boost if I start losing steam! I'm currently just putting one foot in front of the other... and trying not to think further than that, because I know that's all it really takes.

Hi ! I have been BD - ing for five, seven years ? I was living in Atlanta, which has a nice bellydance community and was part of two troupes -- Dancers of the Harem in Marietta, GA and Pyrophorus, which was a fire and belly and tribal troupe. If anyone is living in New York, (I'm in the Glens Falls area) and knows of or is interested in or plays with fire -- I would LOVE to meet you !! I just moved here , though now its been about two years and am still finding my way. I love BD -- in all its aspects - as a philosophical and spiritual study; the costumes; the friends; performing; the jewellery; all the different styles and ways to dance and express oneself. There are classes , a free class actually (!!) , locally, and when I go I feel so inspired and loved and safe. This is a shout out to any bellydancers in Glens Falls, NY --- I would love to meet/chat with you. Hello everyone !

Hi & welcome to the team and welcome back to dance! I am blind myself and can't drive at all! The beautiful thing about belly dancers is that they have a unique and extremely caring community. I hope you will be able to find a ride to classes so you can again be part of that community! shimmy on! Melissa

Hello, everyone! I'm CJ. I grew up dancing (ballet, jazz, folk), but never really *clicked* with any style enough to say "oh, THAT. THAT's what I want to do" until I was in my late 20s, when, suddenly, I was surounded periodically with some wonderful belly dancers (wonderful dancers, wonderful spirits)! So, along with several of my friends, we took lessons for a few years... then everyone got married, everyone else had kids, and eventually, we all stopped going to class. (My only defense is that I can't drive at night, so I was depending on my friends for transportation. I should've figured something out!)

I enjoyed dancing SO much, though, and since I'm looking for fun ways to get moving, I'm hoping that joining this team will gently prod me into starting again. (I've found some youtube classes already; it's a start, and it's still fun!)

I look forward to meeting you all, and I'm already enjoying seeing everyone's costumes & any routines you've posted. Yay, dance!

And in my other life, I knit. craftygryphon.blogspot.com

Hi Liegh & welcome to the team! I went to my first bellydance camp this past year and one of the most popular workshops were the hooping workshops. I never had the nerve to try, so maybe this coming year? So, I do think they go hand and hand and the belly dance powers that be know it! Welcome back to SP and hope to get to know you better!

I've been dancing for 2 years this month (Jan.) and I am blind and started dancing with a broken leg! so, I always say if I can belly dance anyone can! It has become a passion and I begin teaching a cardio bellydance class on Jan. 7. I'm so excited!

Hello. My name is Leigh. I joined SP about 2 years ago and have gotten back into it recently. I started BDing in September. I absolutely LOVE it. I am fortunate enough to take classes at a local studio where 1 of my teachers is a former member of Belly Dance Superstars. I would say that my style (if I can be so bold to say that i have a style since I am a beginner) is fusion. I am so happy to have found this team. Aside from BDing, I am a hoop dancer (Hula hoop). I feel that these 2 activities can go hand in hand. Actually, a lot of the hoop dancers I know do BD also. As much as I love HDing, I have to say that I never feel quite as comfortable in my own skin as I do when I am BDing. I can't wait to read more on here. Happy end to 2010.

Sounds like alot of fun in your house! Enjoy! If ever you get the chance to dance in a real class, do it! The belly dance community is awesome! I am lucky b/c our small town offers classes for $5 or $6 per class!

Hello all! I've just recently gotten into belly dancing and am totally loving it! I had a baby almost 18 months ago and have felt frumpy and ugly ever since but when I belly dance I feel like a woman again. My husband laughed when he saw me dancing to a new dvd I recently purchased and started shaking his chest and hips (in a nice, joking way). But then this morning to make up for being a retard, he said I was his sexy lady. I've always felt super embarrassed dancing around him so I always try to do it when he's not at home but his shaking his nonexistent boobs and his manly, squarish hips was so funny for me that it was a total ice breaker so now I don't feel so embarrassed dancing around him anymore. ^_^ It didn't hurt that he called me sexy the next day. I'm soooooo very much not sexy but it made me smile to hear anyway.

Anyway, I'm learning belly dancing from dvds. I learn everything from dvds because I can buy them cheaply from Amazon and in-person classes are anything but cheap. My son enjoys dancing as well. He'll watch some of the extra dances (that aren't taught) on the special features on one of my dvds and he'll dance to them. When the women flick their hair around, he'll throw his own head around and when they spin in circles, he'll spin too and stare at the screen after every rotation to make sure they're still spinning. ^_^ lol He's almost as much fun to watch as the dances themselves!

Hello everyone! I'm Kristen, 22, from Nova Scotia, Canada, a new mom of an eight month old son and am getting married next June.

I am fairly new to belly dance. I took 12 weeks of classes (one class per week) back in the spring and have been practicing a bit at home but I am still very new to this beautiful form of dance. I love how beautiful, feminine and sexy I feel when I am dancing! Can't wait for classes to start up again around here in a couple weeks!

Can't wait to get to know everyone here!

Hey ladies! I'm back in Spark after a long break. Much has happened in my life which has changed the direction I have taken. I miss dancing a lot and hope to get back to it sometime in the next few months. In the meantime, I'm working on regaining my stamina and my shimmies! I've missed everyone so very much & look forward to reconnecting!

Hi, New here! Both this team and to Sparks. I'm a semi-retired dancer in the San Fran, North Bay area. In other words I'm not getting a lot of gigs mainly due to my weight... But I'm working on that! I've been dancing for 12 years, and mainly do Raks Sharki, but Sister Sirens who I dance with does fusion as well.

I'm never sure what to write in these things, so... Goals: Lose 8-10 lbs a month in a healthy fashion
: Get competition ready by Jewel of the Sierra 2011!

Hugs and Shimmies!

I'm BACK! I have been Belly Dancing for about 4 years. I shattered my ankle about 3 months ago, had 2 plates & 8 pins put in. My surgeon told me I'd never be able to dance again, I was devestated. Durring my last Physical therapy session I tried to stand on my toes and I couldn't it was like my leg was dead weight it was so heavy. If I can't get on my toes I can't dance, again devastated. The very next day I returned to dance class & somehow, I don't think I'll ever have the awnser, but I got on my toes and danced for an hour!
I still have more sugeries to come & I'm scared I won't dance again, it remains a constant fear.
Right now I'm just dancing for exercise, I'm not doing any shows. But Belly Dancing has become a huge part of my life and I think I should atleast drop in once a week & say Hi to my Fellow Dancers!

Hi everyone. I'm Brenda and new to the team. My sister and I took tribal lessons some years back but finances and life caused me to have to drop them. I still end up using the moves on the rare occasion I go out dancing. Kinda freaks people out to see both my sister and I combine belly dancing moves with Irish step dancing.
I just found the shimmy workout on Fit TV and wish that all my old videos were on DVD not VHS. I had forgot how much I loved it and how much of a workout it could be. I didn't even know there was a belly dancing team here! still pretty new to the site.

Hello, i have been belly dancing for 3 years, off and on, and want to make it more on than off. While walking and other exercise does more for me, belly dance helps me tone parts that need to be and gives me a greater sense of balance. Looking forward to reading more on here.

Hi all!

I'm Jamie, and I've been dancing(consistently, anyway) since 2006. I am mainly ATS/SGI/ITS...Whatever it's being called these days. Since moving to Juneau last summer, I've transitioned into more of a tribal fusion/tribaret style. I also dabble in fire dancing, but it's been a couple of years since I've done anything with it.

Even though I was fascinated by the art of oriental dance my whole life (being Hispanic, dancing is a huge part of our culture as well), I did not take any formal instruction until 2002. Since then, I've been dancing on and off. I love the art of Middle Eastern dance in all of its forms. I love the cultural aspects and the origins of the dances. I love the different types of music, from the classic and traditional, to the pop music that plays in dance clubs in the Middle East. I've been fortunate to be friends with my first instructor and keep on the loop of things in the Middle Eastern dance world, even if I cannot afford lessons some times! Yesterday, I attended a dance workshop here in Milwaukee. The featured instructor was Cassandra of Minnesota. I did attend a workshop by her a few years ago and she is awesome, and so was the workshop yesterday. I am ready to go back into it!!

Hi Corey, Hi Phoenix! Welcome to the team! I've found belly dancing to be totally addictive! NOw I find that shopping for belly dance costumes and accessories equally addictive! I'm not showing my belly yet either, but L Rose Designs makes a lovely long halter top. Right now they only go to a size 2X, but hopefully they will expand for us women with larger curves! They do have some tops in a 3X. I like the long halter though b/c I can show some skin with no belly!

Hey Ya'll, I am Corey (I don't have an alter ego yet. Working on it ;) ) I started Belly Dance a few months ago to see what it was all about and am TOTALLY hooked. I just started a beginners performance group in my studio and I am loving every minute. I am still self conscious to show my belly in class, but I think I will get there. Everyone in the studio is so supportive and we range from itty bitty girls to girls with curves. Looking forward to get to know you all!

Hi Everyone! I'm new to SparkPeople but have been belly dancing for most of my life. I saw someone else mention it here but Shira's List (www.shira.net) is probably the most comprehensive list of all things belly dance in the world. If you're looking for a teacher or reviews of DVD's she has a ton of listings and info. It's a great reference site! Fawn

IAMWELLNOW, I don't know of any right off hand. Go to Shira's website(Shira.com I think). She has reviews of many bellydance dvd's. I would suggest if you can, take a class. Its much more fun and you can get hands on correstion of posture, etc. and someone to answer your questions. Have fun in your bellydance journey.

Hi all,

I tried some belly dance at my sister's house (she's with a troupe) and it was so fun! Now I'm looking for a good training DVD that has plus-sized goddesses in it. Any recommendations? :-)

Hi all - I have been taking beginner classes from Hippichick1 and have just fallen in love with it. I still have trouble moving my arms and legs at the same time - LOL but I am working on it. Just wanted to stop by and say hello.

Hi everyone. I'm new to Spark. Glad to see some fellow bellydancers. I've been dancing for about 5yrs now. I LOVE it. Started out cabaret and slipped into tribal. My teacher showed a video of a show and there were tribal dancers in it. Well, when I saw them and went to my first Bellydance Superstars show, I was hooked and knew I wanted to do that. Hope to meet my fellow sisters soon.

Welcome to Spark & to the team! Have you tried any Pilates? There are some good Pilates inspired videos here on SP that may help you trim those inches! Look under the Resource section for videoes and try the 15 min. ab workout, the 10 min. crunchless core workout and some of the ball workouts for your core! They are all good! Spark On! Melissa

Hi everyone, I'm new to Spark People and wanted to introduce myself. I'm just trying to lose a few inches here and there, but it seems to be the worst 'few inches' there are. I hate doing sit-ups/crunches and I'm not sure how well they work anyway. I started doing yoga a few years ago and I love it and while I was doing it, I lost quite a few inches around my middle...I hope it works again. My fingers are crossed! I've also been bellydancing for a little over 11 years and I LOVE IT! I had to take 4 months off recently due to surgeries, etc, and I was having some serious withdrawals! It's hard getting back into it after that long but I'm trying. Hugs Les

Hi Lizzie! Welcome to the team. I've been dancing for a year this month! Love it! On the same hand, some things that look difficult are very easy like shimmies and figure 8's!

Hello - I'm Lizzie888 and if I was in any doubt whether to join this group the fact that there were 888 members was enough to convince me. So I make it 889...

I've not been doing belly dance for long - I started classes last September - I thought I'd give it a go, being that I have a belly so figured I had all the equipment I needed.

I'm hooked. Love it. Love the way the smallest movements have a huge impact. Love the way the seemingly simple is really difficult to do! Its so very different from everything else I do and its really influenced all my other dancing.

Classes stopped over Christmas but start again on Wednesday and I'm really looking forward to it. Looking forward to seeing everyone again and getting some feedback on my dancing - which isn't always easy to hear!

We go on to "beginners - level 2" - not sure what that's going to entail... I'll keep you posted.

Hi Stephanie! Welcome! Alot of people think of belly dancing as dirty or something, but I love the moves and love the group I dance with! It has kept me exercising for a year now where I usually lose interest in plain ol' fitness! Glad to meet you!

Stephanie here, been belly dancing only a few months, dancing on and off my whole life though. I started with DVDs and have found a studio on town to try. I love this style of dance, I just MOVE like this.

People always get so surprised and laugh when I tell them this is part of my fitness program. emoticon

Hello!

I'm new to SparkPeople, and I'm planning to do the boot camp that starts tomorrow.

My passion is belly dance. I'm looking forward to increasing my fitness/decreasing my weight to enhance my dancing. Oh, and more costume options is another factor in wanting to make some changes!

Hi! I'm Melissa and also live in south Central VA in the same town as LINSTRAW, we are in the same classes! I am loving belly dance and started last January! The interesting thing is that I started belly dance lessons blind and broken.... I am blind (20 some years) and had a broken leg at the time I started classes! I take with a wonderful instructor who is one of the kindest women I know and she got one of her advanced students to be my personal coach and assistant if I couldn't follow by what I was hearing.... She is awesome too! I went from limping around a beginner's class to taking 3 classes a week: Beginner, Intermediate & Advanced! I don't think I am very good at it, but I love it so much! I am one of the Ones Linda mentioned going on a belly dance cruise in February! I can't wait! I'm also attending the TriBo camp in October in Asheville, NC.

I love the moves, I love the women in our classes, I love sparkly things and I love to shop! Belly dance was the ticket!

My dancer name is Amirah Adawiyah which means Princess Summer Plant -- my friends tease me that I am a princess and I really am.... Totally spoiled rotten by a wonderful husband and I bloom in the summer months!

HOpe to meet all of you! Why aren't there any dance goals on our team goals? Just wondering.... Please drop by my page and say hi! --Melissa

I'm Linda, I too am in central VA. I started belly dancing this past May. I had to stop a while for cervical disk surgery and I'm out right now because of arthritis in my left knee. I would have done this years ago but I was too self conscious about my size. (313 #). I didn't realize until I got in class that the larger women are actually the most sensuous dancing! I was very self conscious about my age when I started, but there are quite a few 60 somethings in my class! WE have fun and it's great exercise. I'm not a "natural born" dancer by any means. I'm not graceful in the least, but, with this, no body really cares. I enjoy the music, the movement, and the wonderful people I've met. I enjoy watching some of the fantastic dancers in our group. A lot of them are going on a belly dance cruise, I think next month. I can't make it, but I'd love to.
Great meeting all of you. Linda

Hi, I'm Kelly. I'm in central VA and started dancing when my son was just 1 (He is 14) I have been dancing off and on since then (including a long break around the early years of my 2nd child's life.) For the past 3 or 4 years I have been focusing on the dance, intensely at times (well, most of the time, LOL)

I dance a fusion style that is a little bit tribal/fusion, a little cabaret (that I originally learned) and some goth influences thrown in. I am currently studying Egyptian, which I am loving. I guess I could go on forever, but I guess I will try not to be longwinded (I tend to be that way around this subject)

Anyways, it's nice to be here!

Hi all,

Just wanted to finally introduce myself to the team.

I've been on Spark for a couple of months now and have lost 22lbs to date (much of it due to belly dance) YAY!

I've taken a few classes and love it so I'm trying to find a class in my area right now, in the meanwhile I'm practicing at home.

There's so many amazing tools, info, articles and inspirational stories on Spark that have been taking up quite a lot of my time and I love it!

Hey, everyone, I'm Alex. I started belly dance classes at the beginning of June, had to take three weeks off when I went out of the country, and now I'm unfortunately looking for a new studio/teacher to go to, as my previous class was on Tuesday nights and, as a grad student, I now have to spend my Tuesday nights learning about "organizational research." Guess where I'd rather be.

I love the dance. It's one of the most beautiful forms of movement I've ever seen, and I'm eager to learn more and actually gain some skill in it. :-P

I am also using bellydance for fitness and weight loss. In fact, my current motivation for eating right and getting in shape is the thought that in 81 days, I may have the chance to take a couple of workshops in Pittsburgh with The Indigo. A friend of mine went to Mecca in San Francisco this summer and took some workshops with Rachel Brice and Zoe Jakes, and she told me to be prepared to work. I know that in my current shape/condition, I wouldn't be able to handle something like that, so I want to be in the best shape I can possibly get in by the end of November.

i realized just now i have never introduced myself!

I've been on sparkpeople seriously since beginning of this year ... prior i joined then promptly forgot.

i have taken a few months of belly dance ... have not the natural grace for it, but i do have a love. i've not been dancing since june/july because my class is monday evenings and for me that's a busy day. perhaps i'll get back to it when my daughter gets in school.

joined a fitness center that has belly dance classes on wednesday afternoons and when my market ends in mid october i'll be there.

i love how i am getting healthier and stronger & attribute it to will power/determination, lifestyle change & the support of sparkpeople!

I make natural soaps, botanical perfumes & body care for a living. I also am the pack leader to 4 dogs, 1 cat & an assortment of humans.

Hi all! I've been a member of this team for years but haven't posted in ages because I haven't been able to dance at all due to foot problems and back issues related to morbid obesity. Well, I finally cured that nasty disease by getting Switched, have lost 120 pounds so far, and am starting classes again! It's been so long that I'm starting with a class for beginners. It's funny, because I noticed that some of the "vets" in the advanced class were beginners when I was dancing and I recall one telling me that I was her inspiration, all those years ago. Now, here I am wearing the newbie hat. It feels so good to get the use of my body back; to get my life back!

I've been to one class so far and it knocked me for a loop! LOL My calves were so sore for days! But it was an absolute blast and I'm so thrilled to be back in the dance world.

Howdy! I'm also a Jen. Have been obsessed with belly dance since I was at least 5 (as far as I can remember) but didn't get to learn the dance until a little while back. Already in Level 2 and learning to balance a sword on my head. SO MUCH FUN! I'm even more obsessed now.

Hi everyone,

Iím still very new to Spark People, but so far this seems like an awesome community! Someone in another online community raved about it, and when I saw an ad for it I decided to join, although it wasnít the best week, since my sister was visiting and I let myself slack off! I guess itís for the best, though, because in the past two weeks I have let my healthy habits slide Iíve realized how much better I feel and look when Iím taking care of myself, not just weight-wise but in my energy level, skin, nails, lips, all of it. I donít need to get into a bikini; I just want to get back to feeling like Iím in control of my life.

If you want to know, just ask. I hope everyone is doing well and has a great weekend!

Take care,
ladyratsb
