It definitely adds its own form of frustration. I have actually stopped during drills to exasperatedly ask my hips and legs, "You used to be able do to this just fine - what is the problem now?!" But it also gives me faith that, because I was able to do it well before, I will be able to master it again.

I'm recently returned to belly dance after a break of about 8 years, so I consider myself a beginner all over again. My biggest frustration is my body no longer seems to want to do things it did just fine the first time around! But I'll get there eventually, the hard part is being patient.

Well, not the newest ... it will be two years in about one month ... and I dance withOUT most of the bells and whistles, I do have a coined hip-scarf and some (inadequate) starter zills ...
I just LOVE belly dance. It is the only low impact dance form that positively impacts my health ...
Nothing wrong with using a DVD, but I am finding I have to up-modify my SharQui Level 2 dvd greatly ... yes, for cardio dance fitness ... even the series of classes I took recently were not of the Dance Troupe in Training type ... YMMV, but be forewarned ... even in a sophisticated, upscale neighborhood where others (I live the next nabe over) could afford and have previously afforded ALL the bells and whistles (priced out of the class, NOW; that had been a loss-leader sale deal I'd gotten in on) they went from out-zilling and out-veiling every belly dancer in the neighborhood; because Zumba exploded over there! The belly dance teacher is of Latin extraction, too!
Don't ask, I won't tell you any more ... lol ...
So far, I have 3 of the Bellydance Superstars compilations ... I do my own routines to it ...
I don't care if I remain technically a beginner - for now ...
