The Veena/Neena videos are having you do specific "steps" for the target area of the DVD. I would get more if you like the ones that you have. The arm ones help you out on your arm movements, for example -- you will get great snake arms and other arm poses. I think there were 5 DVDs that targeted different area, then they released Mystical Dance 3-pack.

Belly Dance is a great way to shed pounds and have fun doing it! Consider joining a class and just having fun! In the meantime, there are plenty of great belly dance DVDs out there to try. One I liked at my start was Belly Dance for Wimps! Very inexpensive and easy to follow! Hips & Shimmies!

I started out with Veena and Neena, the Bellytwins. I loved their work and after 6 months, I was ahead of those that took live classes. Whatever you choose, work on completly mimicking the teacher (live or DVD) this will enhance the grace of your dance.

If I had waited until I was comfortable with my body, I would have missed out on four years of great instruction! Do not let anything stop you from taking classes, there really is no substitute for learning from a teacher. :-)

Reached my goal November 2009!

Weight Watchers worked for me and now I work for Weight Watchers.

It is a life style, not a life sentence.

I agree with ShimmyHip. But if you still feel self conscious, there are vast librarys of instructional DVDs out there, especially for the beginner, to get you started and to help you loose weight enough to get the courage to try a live class.

I want to start off by pleading with you not not let your weight intimidate you from taking classes. The beauty of bellydance if that it celebrates EVERYONE! I have been dancing for 5 years and have been obese
the entire time. I have had some of the BEST times of my life bellydancing and have also met some of the most incredible women ever. There is something sensual in all women no matter what size we are. emoticon

I always thought the sexiest figure on a woman was a belly dancers and secretly I always wanted one. But it's a secret no more. I've noticed it varies for each woman but it always is so natural and looks great on anybody type. I don't feel comfortable enough with my body to start classes right now so I decided to lose a little more weight before I do. But I would like to learn a few things and start using them so that's why I'm here. I'm looking forward to meeting everyone and learning.
