HI! I am new to the team as well as Sparkpeople. I was in denial of my current heath until seeing videos and pictures that have been taken in the past few months. I am looking for motivational help to overcome this and be healthy.

Hello everyone,

I trust your day is going well and your goals are being met. I am 27 y/o male, 5'10 201lbs. My goal is to get down to 159lbs by August 07, 2013. I have never been below 187lbs since I turned 21. My body just doesn't seem to loose a lot of lbs. I gain muscle mass like crazy when I do strength training which could account for why I don't loose the lbs.

I started this journey with a good friend of mine who is also a member of Sparks People. She is great motivation and together we have been eating right and doing out cardio exercises daily. So far, I have introduced two individuals to Sparks People and I tell everyone I run into no the street about all of wonderful resources Sparks People offers.

Follow me to track my progress!

Thank You,

Malus2785

Good morning- I am staying motivated to lose 15 pounds and re-program myself towards a healthy exercise plan that will last the rest of my life. Not in this for a short term solution. I am trying the message board because SparkPeople is really helping me stay on track through the food and exercise trackers. I started this effort 2 weeks ago today and so far have lost 6 pounds. I have been hitting the gym or doing some type of cardio every day, and watching my carb intake.
Looking forward to losing the rest of my weight and incorporating more strength training - I am 51, 5.7 and now happy to say 149 pounds. Hoping to get down to 140 by September 1.

Hello, I am new to spark people. Today is my first day. I had a surgery two years ago and can't seem to get back to the level of exercise I was at. I can't seem to wake up in the morning to work out. I have joined a gym. I go right there after work, no excuses. But I really want to work out in the morning at home, like I use to. I am in need of some motivation with that. So, not sure what to expect, but thought I'd try something new.

I am not only new to SP, but also to chat rooms:-) I hope I am posting this in the right spot. I was skinny all my life--able to eat whatever I wanted and not gain weight. I weighed 140 when I delivered my last child and was able to lose my baby weight within a couple of months. After that I had to be more careful to keep my weight down, but a little exercise and watching what I ate would allow me to take off 5 pounds in a week. I am much older now and had a hysterectomy about 8 years ago. Since then I have put on weight every year! I was able to lose about 25 pounds 5years ago, but have put it all back on. I really need support and encouragement. So far I have lost 4 pounds. It is so discouraging when it takes so long to lose so little, then it can come back so fast. Glad to be a part of the team. Just not sure what I am supposed to do yet.

Hello. Another newbie. I am 49 and very unhappy with my weight gain over the last few years. I am a teacher and this year was particularly stressful, so even more pounds went on. Yes, I'm an emotional eater. Love food and love to eat! I hate having restrictions being placed on my eating and I hate being hungry. So far, the nutrition tracker has been helpful in getting me to see my downfalls and make some pretty easy changes. I am looking to lose 50lbs over the next 6 1/2 months. I want to lose 50 by my 50th. I am determined to do it. My husband just lost 40lbs through better eating and exercise and he has become my inspiration. He and my teenage daughter are very supportive, so I feel like I'm on the right path to success.

Hey, fellow Illinois peeps!

I'm new to SparkPeople, but by no means am I new to working out and staying active and healthy. I'm 27 and am engaged to be married come next October. I am a bit of a workoutaholic. I am always doing some workout program, whether it be self-created or off of a DVD. I used to be an avid runner (7 days a week for 4 years), but all that running on the concrete ended up doing some painful damage to my knees. I now do a lot of circuit training, incorporating strength and cardio.

I have severe body image issues, so I struggle daily with what I see in the mirror. People around me think I'm nuts because of this. Maybe I am. Lol. Either way, I have been driven to work towards being satisfied with my reflection. This plan has been in effect since I was 19 and I haven't gotten there, yet. (shrugs shoulders) To me, it's better to be motivated and to continuously work towards something (whether it be unattainable or not) than to slump down on the couch, stick your hand in your pants, shove some cookies down your throat, and give up. That's just not the person I am. I have gotten really slim in the past by working out for 2 hours a day, every day of the week, and taking in a dangerously low amount of calories for an extended period of time (400 cals/day for over a month). I'm determined to look the best I ever have on my wedding day...without having to resort to such extremes. Well, that's over a year away, so I'm looking to the good people of this website to help me keep up the motivation and positivity to get me there.

I don't really have weight to lose that's why I am not going to give myself a real "goal". I always weigh more when I'm in better shape than I do when I'm not working out as hard. I just want to love what I see in the mirror by the time my wedding day gets here. Wish me luck! :-)

i have always struggled with weight or thought i struggled with weight issues. however, know i know i do. getting back to a weight that i am comfortable at is my goal - i am now doing this for me and not anyone else. (plus, i have good competition - an acquaintance of mine just dropped a few pant sizes - size 22 down to size 12!)

Hi everyone!
I am new to the group and would like to introduce myself. I am looking to lose about 20 lbs. I just delivered a healthy 10lb 11oz little boy which I carried for another couple. I have lost most of my weight in about 3 weeks but I would like to lose more as well as tone up my body. I am looking forward to my new gym membership as well as trying out some new recipes.

Hi everyone! I'm a graduate student in Education at UIUC. I've live in Illinois for about 2 years now, and I'm enjoying it so far :) I am 25, and I've been struggling with my weight since high school. My goal is to get down to about 130 or so (I'm 5' 4" and female), but I'm planning on doing it in increments. My first goal is to get down to around 170 by Thanksgiving. Then I plan on focussing on maintaining that weight through the holidays. After New Years I will start trying to lose again, and hopefully make it down to 160 by my graduation, and then 150 or 140 by the time I start teaching in August. Once I'm teaching, I want to try to maintain my weight for the first month or two, and then get into the last 10 to 20 lb leg of my weight loss. Here's hoping it works!

Hmm, I thought I posted this in the correct area, but it appears I started a new conversation. Sorry!

Hi! My name is Jennifer and I'm rejoining SparkPeople after a few years away. I had some success when I used it about 4 years ago, and life just got in the way so I strayed from it. I had a beautiful baby boy in December and then turned 30 in April. I'm at the heaviest I can ever remember being - 265! I'm having foot surgery next week, and then again 3 weeks later, which means I wont be able to really exercise for a little while. I'm hoping that cutting out carbs and eating more fruits & veggies will help jump start my journey. I make my son's food - fresh fruits, veggies & meats...so I know right now he eats better than I do! HaHa!
My favorite form of exercise is riding my bike. Two summers ago I would ride 25-30 miles a day, about 3 days a week. Last year my husband & I bought a house that needed more work than we had anticipated, so I didn't get to ride at all. This summer I haven't gotten to ride very much either, because my son isn't old enough to go on long rides in the trailer yet. I try to get us out for walks, but because of my foot pain we don't go very far.
I'm looking forward to a healthier me and reacquainting myself with the excellent resources that SparkPeople offers.

Hi. I am new to the group. I joined the group to lose weight/get healthier and get the support to do it that I don't receive from family/friends. I am at my heaviest I have ever been at. I am 43 years old. Been together with my spouse for 14 years, married for 10 1/2 of them. I have a 9 1/2 year old daughter named Emily (Has a form of Autism), and a almost 5 yeard old daughter named Olivia(Has some developmental lacking skills). I would like to get healthy so I am around to see my daughters up and have their own families.

TJ or Tracy, from Chicago, most people say I have no business being here, as I am not what you consider overweight. I'm 5 ft, about 138 lbs. Always been petite, until age, life and laziness has caught up with me. I dont really want to loose a lot, I'd like to hover around 130 lbs and tone up. But I have this issue with motivation to exercise. I can eat right, I actually enjoy it. But I can't get on my bike, treadmill or weight machine. Yes, I have all that equipment and more at home and I'm too lazy to get it together. Weekends are easier for me, but weekdays...well, its a bunch of excuses. So, baby steps..here I am.

Hi! My name is Monti and I live in the Belleville area of St. Claire County. I've struggled with my weight since I was 14, but gained the bulk of it when I got pregnant. My "baby boy" turns 20 in July and I've gained and lost 50 of what is now 100 pounds numerous times over the past 10 years. I just want to lose it and keep it off this time. I don't get much support at home (my husband eats everything and is 6'1" and 147 lbs so he doesn't understand the struggle) so I'm finally opening myself up to some help on here. Thanks in advance for the support!! emoticon

Hello Everyone,

I live in Edwardsville, Madison County, IL

I have struggled with my weight all my adult life. I have reached my goal a few times, but get side tracked and gain the weight back. Hopefully this time I will be able to stay focused, lose and maintain a healthy weight.

Rose

May your life be filled with Love, Hugs & Peace.

Woot Woot... Just signed up today and thought I'd introduce myself. I'm 38, a 2013 bride, mom of two and currently living in Downers Grove. Somewhere in the back of my mind I have visions of me being this awesome Zumba Instructor. I guess what they say is true, when you find something you really like doing you become hooked. Would love to connect with others who are interested in loosing the pounds and building muscle.

Hi all. My name is Donna. Been a member for about a month now. I just love SparkPeople, especially since I'm seeing results. Who new, that all that was missing was tracking everything I ate and all my exercise. Not me, but it is working. I also just love the articles and all the inspiration. I'm 18 years old. A mother of an 11 month old baby girl, and a fiance with the relationship on the rocks. I want to lose a total of 55 pounds. As of right now, I'm concentrating on losing 25 pounds.

Hi everyone, I'm Laura. I've been a member here for a while, but really just to "visit" with a couple friends who are on SP. I need to lose about 40 pounds and I'm turning to SP because it looks like there's a lot going on here - a lot of tools and support. I'm still a bit overwhelmed by it all, but so far I've been trying to track my fitness and nutrition and plan to add a bit more little by little.

Hi. I'm Ashleigh Jones. I've only been on here for a day, today that is, and it seems like it's going to be a great experience. I've from the southeast side of Chicago and I hope to lose at least 50 lbs. I'm short so if I lose more I really wouldn't have a problem with that lol. It seems like it's going to be really hard to do but I know with motivation and determination I can get it done. Just gotta stick to my goals and exercise and eat right. Hopefully this site will help make losing weight much easier, especially seeing that this is a site with people who have the same goals as me.

New to Spark (1 week) and still trying to figure out these message boards! I'm in the western suburbs of Chicago and have 60 lbs I'd love to get rid of forever. Right now that seems like a daunting task, but I'm encouraged by the 2lbs lost in the first week. I know it will get harder before it gets easier, though. Hopefully logging in will provide some of the accountability I need.

Hi all. Under Dr's advice, I'm working on a 30 lb weight loss. I usually don't have a problem dropping weight on my own. However, now that I'm in my 40's (43 in a couple of weeks), it almost seems like short of starving myself, the scale doesn't move anymore. I've always considered myself good with diet and exercise.

I've been here at sparkpeople since about April 23rd, and the scale is moving already. And I'm not starving myself. Just a few modifications to my diet to stay within sparks recommendations and it seems to be working. So I just needed that extra structure and to change how I was snacking. Hard to believe such a small adjustment was all that I needed to get things going. It's also helping me to keep to my exercise schedule as well.

Loving it here and going to stick with it to my goal. Should make my Dr (and me) very happy.

Hello All,

I'm happy to be a part of the team. I'm a mother of 5 and wife of 16 years that need some real motivation to stick to this healthy lifestyle decision. I desparately need to loose weight but I'm also addicted to sugar. I love cookies, cakes, pies, and cheesecake is my all time favorite. As a child we always had dessert after dinner but it didn't stop there for me. Dessert made an appearance after breakfast and lunch. Oftentimes dessert was breakfast and lunch. My twins are graduating from high school and going off to college. This is the best time to change my lifestyle. Well I look forward to many discussions and even some complaints, which all work together for the good of a healthy lifestyle.

Chow for Now!!!

Welcome Rhonda! I am in a similar boat! Best of luck to you!

I am Rhonda. I live in the Chicago area. I joined Spark a few days ago. Right now I am just tracking everything to see where I am at with my eating/working out. I have been fighting weight problems my entire life. I had finally gotten to a good weight and shape when I was 19, and then I got pregnant, and that went right out of the window. I have been trying to get the baby weight from both of my girls off for the past 8 years with very little success. I am very glad to have found Spark, and hope to finally get back to a healthy weight so I can play with my girls a lot more than I do now.

We ALL can do anything we set our minds to!!
