I joined Spark last week, but yesterday was my first official day of logging and full participation. I learned a couple things really quick. My back problems have made it very difficult for cardio (but I'm check with my physical therapist to see about riding a bike with a back on the seat). And the number one thing I learned after logging food yesterday was that I had gotten back to old habits of not paying attention to what I'm putting in my body. Makes a big difference to log it and know for sure you ARE over eating and its generally junk. So today is a new day and I've prepared my self to eat a better meal plan with snacks today!! emoticon

Hi SparkPeople! I'm Lisa, I'm 26 years old, from NW Illinois, and am looking to loose 100-115lbs. I'm a definite "boredom" eater, and today is day 1.
My boyfriend and I are doing this together. We went through our cabinets, freezer and fridge last night and pitched EVERYTHING that isn't healthy. I went and bought tons of fruits, veggies, and proteins today.

Hello All!
My name is Melissa and I'm 33 years old. I just signed up for Spark People yesterday. I feel really motivated this time. I had lost 90+ pounds but gained back about 50. Since I have gained weight, I have great intentions of starting back and then I fall off the wagon. I lost it on Weight Watchers, but since I had to leave my job in Cali and haven't found one here yet, I need to save money and spend it somewhere else. However, I will not let that get me down. My husband and I have been married 13 years and we have a 10 year old son. We live on Scott Air Force Base. We just moved here from Southern California and I'm glad to be back in the midwest. (I'm originally from Wisconsin). I look forward to getting to know you all.

I have started working out with weights with my husband. Since we are now settled in, I walk a little over 2 miles either outside or on the treadmill.

Hi Everyone!

I've been a Sparks Member since November of 2009. I thought I could lose weight by just doing the nutrition tracker. Well, that didn't work! I have 120 lbs to lose and now know I can't do it by myself. I am here for the long haul. I am really looking forward to being part of the Spark Illinois team!

Hello everyone. I just joined SP today. My daughter, 16, and I are attempting to loss weight together. I'm a type two diabetic and am trying to prevent my daughter from becoming one. My heart and mind are willing. Sure hope my body holds out. Had many attempts at this before, but hoestly somehow, this time it feels a little different. Have some confidence that I might make it.

14 year olds can do a lot to your heath and make you crazy. My wife and I have one too. I am very new to this and The doctor laid down the law on me. Im 324 and want to get to 225. That's 99 pounds. But after that 170. We'll see. People say it gets easier as you lose the weight, but I'm a worrier. What if I fail?? So I have decided it's time, whatever happenes happens and I can get back on the wagon If I fall. Good luck to you.

Hi! I've been on the site a for a little under a year and have been working to be more involved with the groups here to get some extra motivation. I've actually done pretty well recently with my weight goal, so now I'm trying to branch out to learn new activities. I've signed up for a few races this year, which is a new thing for me. I live in the Northwest Suburbs, and am looking forward to getting involved with the goings-on in the Chicago area.

Hi everyone! I'm new to this. I'm 37, single, living in Chicago. I'm very motivated and looking for localites who might be going through the same challenges. I have the best intentions and then a lengthy commute and long work hours, which often gets me off-track. I'm hoping to use the resources and people here to help me stay aligned and accomplish this goal! Cheers! emoticon

Hello everyone! Just joined today!
I'm a talker but I promise to keep this short & sweet. :)

My name is Renee. I'm 44 and mom to one child, who will soon be 14. I'd like to lose the 20 pounds that has steadily creeped up on me since my late 30's. I'm concerned that if I don't get it off now, it (meaning my big behind, lol) will just keep growing. I've always been an avid exerciser but it seems that the things I used to do that kept me slim, don't work so well now that I'm over 40. I considered Weight Watchers online but have heard that SP is just as effective and it's free; whoot!:)

I own a small business as a jewelry designer. I love to cook and am really into food & wine, especially champagne, which can create some challenges when trying to watch one's weight. Adding to the temptation: my husband is in the wine biz.

Glad to be here. I'm very friendly & would love to hear from others, whether you are just starting out or are farther along on your weight loss journey. Good luck everyone! :)

Hello everyone,

I am a relatively new member. I think I have been here for approximately 4 weeks, but have mostly lolligagged for the first two weeks. I originally joined because I am 48 years old and have started to develop some health problems that are not necessarily BECAUSE of my weight, but are certainly influenced by my weight. I am tired of having barely enough energy to make it through the day and feeling like I constantly let my family down.

I am hoping that by following the sparkpeople diet and starting to get in shape, I will discover the extra energy I've lost along the way. It was a real eye-opener when I calculated my BMI and it was in the obese range. I have known for a long time that the majority of Americans were obese, but I never put myself into that category.

I had trouble getting started because I am an emotional eater. I have been known to eat a whole box of Girl Scout Thin Mint cookies or a quart of ice cream when struggling with a difficult life situation. I think that I have gotten over that and have been doing very well with tracking and eating healthier foods.

I started @ 224 on 2/7/2012, and am down to 219 as of last tuesday, so I know I've had a slow start, but any start is better than not doing anything.

I'm looking forward to making the change.

Hello everyone! I'm 54 and the mother of three children. They are all grown. My youngest is a senior in college and soon to graduate (yay!), my middle child is married, and my oldest child (28 years) is living at home with us and has some developmental issues and disabilities. My goal is to lose about 10 pounds, maybe a few more, so I can feel and look as good as possible. I can tell when I gain those extra pounds and I hate it!

I love all the positive feedback from Sparkpeople. It not only covers health and diet, but really about achieving any life goals.

I live in southern Illinois and enjoy the country life. I love to garden and ride my horse. I feel like it is my time to enjoy me and do things for me instead of everyone else.

The most important thing in life is what happens next.

Hi my name is Maria. I live in Mattoon IL and am from Galesburg IL. Me and small towns =)

I am a single mom of two developmentally disabled kids and work in a day program for persons with developmental disabilities. I am new to SparkPeople, a blog I follow online mentioned this site and how its helped her to " shed my muffin top" so I thought I'd give it a try.

I have found I love to exercise but its not enough to help me loose weight. I dont do well on diets that are very restrictive even for two weeks.. I think I have willpower but to me life is too short not to have a doughnut on occasion.

I currently weigh 150 lbs and my ideal weight for me personally is 130-140. I gained some weight after a medication change and once the doctor saw how fast I was gaining the weight she lowered the dose as she was worried I'd become at risk of developing diabities ( the medicine is Abilify and that has caused some folks to become diabetic due to how it affects one's blood sugar levels.)

My doctor suggested my going to Weight Watchers but they cost money. I have had eating disorder issues and body image issues in the past so my therapist told me she feels Im doing very well that Im now ok weighing between 130-140 since thats a lot more than I've ever been ok weighing in my life. =)

It has been a long slow journey to get there and I have to keep reminding myself that to become healthy and fit that it too will become a long slow journey. I dont want to loose a ton of weight in a few weeks only not to be able to maintain it.

Im honestly trying to be healthier not just thinnner. I plan to take swimming lessons and try out some fitness classes at my local YMCA since I have a scholarship there.

I have fibromyaglia and arthritis so sometimes its hard to find workouts that won't aggravate my joints or my fibro pain. I did try pilates and it was just too hard for me.

I do enjoy videos where I can dance such as the Dance off the Inches series , Denise Austin and Richard Simmons are all fun for me as well.

The Dance off the Inches series I found at Wal-mart they have a "latin party pack" and a belly dance video which combines belly dance and bollywood moves.. and wow they are not only fun but Im dripping sweat when Im done. Belly Dance works muscles I didn't even know I had. =)

As for my "temptations..." where I work food is always everywhere!!! I have a feeling that fact has helped contribute to my weight gain its hard to say no to temptation.. but everyone I work with is taller than me, I'm only 5'3 so while they have some room to gain weight and not have it show , I dont have that luxury.. =)P I also have found myself mindlessly snacking in the evening out of sheer boredom. I have taken up a hobby of wanting to learn to sew, ( my daughter is learning in 4 H and her leader is teaching her, myself, and two other sets of moms and daughters to sew) I also want to find a book to learn to knit and/or crotchet anything to keep my hands busy so I get distracted rather than bored and if my hands are busy I can't use them to put food into my mouth out of boredom. =)

I thank you for the invitation to the team and appriciate any tips, suggestions etc that anyone can offer me. Have a great day all .. Maria

I'm a talker so I'll make this easy to follow..I hope! ;)
Carol
36 yrs old / married for 16 yrs/ 12 yr old twins

I've always been a mover but my enemy is not food really that put this weight on, it's stress. I'm a people pleaser and by the time I put my self into rotation for myself...I'm shuffled back down. All because I feel the need to make sure everyone else is happy. I"m not a miserable person though. I'm great with making those quirky comments that gets people to smile.
I'm starting to figure out that I really don't love my physical body enough to want to change it over a long period of time. Sound all too familiar huh?
So, I started off slowly by allowing myself to feelnot so guilty for being lazy for a few minutes.
You see my average day might not be like others....or is it? I've never found another woman that has a day like mine!! PLEASE IF YOU ARE HER...BE THE POWER OF BUDDHA COME FRIEND ME!! HAHAH
A typical day during last fall:
Up by 5:30 / shower by 6am / fight with son to get out of bed and get ready for school
Work by 7:30 / day sporaic of sitting and running around / lunch not usually greasy gross I always try to choose chicken stuff
Home by 5pm /scramble to get work clothes off and coaching clothes on (I coached youth football 12-14 yrs olds!)/ load footbal gear and equip in truck...
Practice field by 5:45/ walk the field help with players until 8pm/ home by 8:30
Dinner before 9ish? / bed by maybe 11:30 if I was lucky.
Repeat for 4 days of the week.
Saturdays: Depending on game schedule 2 hours of grocery shopping before noon/ if game that would be about 2-1/2 hours of walking or pacing the field add another 1 for before and after game stuff.
See?? I'm always on the move. It's stress!! My Dad passed away in 2010 unexpectedly and that slowly took one helluva toll on me.

So...I'm starting this road trip again (probably like the 5th time in my life I've had to lose weight!) at 178 lbs / 5'3"
I'll get a picture of me up here soon. I love compliments, not gonna lie. I've never really received many even though I think I'm not so bad to look at!
And feel free to send me kicks to the behind! :)

I choose my ticker because I used to coach youth football...I kid with my boys that my goal is not to be a triple stripper come the 2012 season! (Dbl stripper is over 160 so I deemed over 170 a triple!! hahah)

Hi! I'm Nancy from Coal Valley. I've been married for 40 years, have three grown daughters, and two granddaughters. Recently I retired from a nursing home, where I worked for 20 years, mostly as an activities assistant on an alzheimer's unit. Retirement has made me fat and lazy, which has brought me to the SP program.

I am 52 yrs old, and have high blood pressure for quite a few years, my Dr says I need to lose weight and exercise to lower my B/P...I live in Utica, IL... been married for 32 yrs...I have 2 grown daughters and 1 grandson.
In 2001 I had gastric bypass surgery. I lost 110 pounds, and have gained about 40 back. I DO NOT want to go back to 260 pounds! My goal is 130lbs. And also to lower my B/P.
I am looking forward to (hopefully) making some new friends and finding something that will keep me motivated in my goals.

Hi, My name is Mary,

I am new to all of this, as I see we all are at some point. In Nov of 2009 I had a virus that left me an insulin dependent diabetic, litterally overnight. Last July, I was also diagnosed with Celiac disease. I'm pretty sure the virus that made me a diabetic also made me Celiac.

I first signed up for this site some months ago at the advice of my dietitian, but became very frustrated due to the Celiac stuff. Now I'm starting to get the hang of it.

I am 60, live in Fox River Grove, have 3 sons and 11 grandchildren. I work in the financial industry (different aspects) and love it. Plus my husband and I have a web store where we sell (on line only) designer toilet seats.

I am not particularly "overweight" but would still like to loose about 20 pounds to get back to "my fighting weight". Some years ago they put me on a medication that put alot of weight on me and I have lost all but that last 20 pounds. I think sticking with the nutrition tracker will help me to better control my portions and intake. Looking forward to seeing how this works for me.

Thanks for being there.
Mary

Thanks for being there, Mary

I am hoping to learn how to get around on this sight and meet some new friends

I am wanting to lose about 30 lbs and need all the help I can get. I have yo-yo'd with my weight all my life and now I am 51 and need to get trimmed down and be done with it.

Hi,

I am so excited to belong to this group and appreciate the welcome! I have lots of weight to lose but am excited and motivated to do so. I am a new grandma (Nanny as he'll eventually call me) and want to enjoy everything "Nannyhood" has to offer! I know I would never be able to keep up with him right now if he were walking...so, I want to get some of the weight off by that time. Also, he lives across the country so I would like to travel several (read that as MANY) times a year to see him, unfortunately right now SWA has made an issue of my weight this past year and won't let me fly without purchasing 2 seats, I'm embarrassed to print that but it's true! I have had a kidney transplant and the steroids are doing a number on me (I need them for anti-rejection purposes), but I am doing a fine job of feeling sorry for myself too and just eating away!!!! I can put the real blame where the blame needs to be and now it's time to muster up and get on with my mission...what a sweet ending it will have! Thanks again for your welcome...let's make Illinois a "skinny" state since we are always on the "fat" state list that comes out at the end of the year...anybody seen that little poll??!?!?

I joined a couple of years ago, slowed down, and then saw my wedding pictures taken this fall and was HORRIFIED! Between that and all the health stuff I know I'm supposed to worry about, I know I need to do something! Somehow in the day to day of my husband and I both working and being in school, volunteering, caring for two kids and *their* activities, plus the house, I need to fit in planning & shopping for, and cooking, better meals, and excercise. On a budget. Phew. But I'm ready, bring it on!

Hello everyone! My name is Jennifer. I joined SP at the beginning of the month, but I am just now getting around to looking around and seeing all the wonderful things it has to offer. I live in a really small town called Livingston, which is about 35 minutes outside of St. Louis. I am looking forward to (hopefully) making some new friends and finding something that will keep me motivated in my goal. I am wanting to lose 20-30 pounds ASAP. I have started watching what I eat and working out. My goal this year is to run a 5k with my mom so I have been working out and trying to get in better shape until it warms up so I can start running outside (I know I can do this now - but it is too cold for my daughter, who will be riding her bike with me!)

Hi my name is Melanie. I'm the mother of a 14 1/2 year old daughter and a 25 year old stepson. I work in a special education classroom where the children have various disabilities. I've been a couch potato for a long time and now I think I'm ready to do something about the excess weight that goes along with being a couch potato.

Hello, my name is Melissa and I live in Waterloo, Il. I have just begun this new journey on SP and am looking forward to all the fellowship and support I need. Weight loss is NOT an easy task and I think it is absolutely great that there are support groups such as this one to help alleviate any bumps that get in our way!! Good luck to all that are reaching out for help and I hope one day we can all reach our specific goals..... emoticon emoticon

Hi there! I've been on SP since April, but didn't actually do anything beyond signing up until mid-October. I live in Chicago, in Hyde Park and one of my favorite workouts is a long walk (and now walk/job intervals) along the lakefront.

Hello, I have not posted here yet. I am Amy and have been with SP working on my third full week. I have lost 8.4#! YEAH!!! I have struggled with my weight since I was in 5th grade. When I joined I was at my heaviest (the good news is that I can't say that anymore) and decided in order to live a longer healthier life in needed to shed the excess weight.

Hi, This is my 1st week and I am very excited to start my journey. I have lost 3 pounds my 1st week, thanks to some work and tracking my food intake. I hope to find some other people, for support. Hi Everyone! I'm 38 years old and I currently live in the northwest suburbs of Chicago. I just joined the site a couple of days ago. I'm pretty excited about it so far. I really want to get back into shape. I have about 71 pounds to lose and it's starting to cause some health issues. I'm hoping to get back into bicycling this summer.

I am 50 years old and needing some help in the weight loss area. I know what to do, just too lazy to do it. Hoping that if I track everything, it will be an eye opener to what I am doing right and wrong. This site looks like a great site to get and give encouragement for weight loss. It also has so many trackers and helpful ideas to help me be successful. I am very excited and hoping that this helps me to be successful.
