I'm fortunate in that I don't care that much for cake and ice cream (and even less often for them together). I'd have a lot more trouble with Halloween coming up but now I just buy candy all the time, have a candy bowl I keep filled so I'm not overdoing it at any one time anymore, have a piece or two every now and then but don't take handfuls like I use to.

Woah! Tough going the next few months! At least it would be for me because I REALLY like cake and ice cream.

Have you looked at any healthy cake choices? I used to have a recipe for a dark chocolate and fresh raspberry cake that was lower in calories. Angel food cake with fruit is also a bit better than the multi-layer buttercream frosting roses on top that tastes SO good! Good luck making it through!

August was my husband's birthday, this month is our anniversary and next month is my birthday. Then there's Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas, with my three stepsons' birthdays in there there.

It's almost time for my second Frontline flea application on the cats (Sunday or Monday night); I'll give the fleas a couple more months to be gone, at least until my birthday the end of October and the cats until Thanksgiving to get themselves back together.

Sounds lovely! We had some of my husband's Mexican co-workers over. They cooked authentic Mexican food - yummy!

I was out of town yesterday for Baltimore's Sailabration; tall ships came in for the War of 1812 and the Star Spangled Banner celebration. We went Thursday, spent the night and went out yesterday afternoon on a boat to sit in Baltimore Harbor opposite Fort McHenry and watch the Blue Angels practice for their performances today and tomorrow.

Happy Holidays! Hope everyone is doing well, not struggling with parties, cookies, drinking/eating things at this time.

So, what are people's plans for the 4th of July? We're having sons, daughter-in-law and grandchildren over for an afternoon of swimming, boating, cookout and fireworks. For some reason we can see lots of firework displays; 6, 8, 10 at a time and almost unscrew one's head trying to catch them all, about 270 degrees worth of skyline. Too, idiots shoot them off for multiple days so we have fireworks for most of a week, or all weekend in this case since this year the 4th is a Monday. We cook/eat out each evening and sit and enjoy with all the neighbors; it's very sociable/pleasant.

My kids are all young so I feel like my life is defined by holidays! I have one in Kinder and I love the flurry of art projects that come home just before a holiday.

Can't wait for summer though when the rushing to get ready for school and all the extracurriculars will end and hopefully we'll get outside and play, play, play!!

I'm retired so don't have a problem with gaining/losing anymore but do miss the mail on the Monday national holidays.

I vote we just fall back twice a year! I love the 'extra' hour.

Yes, my DH loves daylight savings when it starts, cries when it stops but even that, now that they have it stopping so late in the year, is a different affair than it was in our youth.

Just too bad not all of its worth Laughing about=( Hollidays don't mean much for us anymore- unless it actually gives the DH a day off? Then I know to be ready to Cook Man Meals, lol. Lately, Daylight Savings time gets more notice than most, and we still remember and observe Easter.

I guess our Spark Anniversaries are coming up. It's funny the changes in three years in knowledge, attitude, etc.

I try to have healthy foods at any celebrations but have been too busy the past few years with dance and renovations to really pay attention to holidays. With the arrival of the grandbaby, I expect that to change!

I generally go to my parents for Thanksgiving. The weekend after I put up my tree. Christmas is always interesting - my ex and I still share the kids. They go to his house for a while and then to mine. Now, I also have to share with in laws. Fourth of July is another trip home - homemade peach ice cream, peach pie, BBQ.

Summer solstice is often time for a hafla with the belly dance troupe - generally because it is our slow season and the weather is warm! Middle eastern food, henna, and dance.

The other days are occasionally a reason for a party, but nothing really special.
