Starting to set up holiday plans (Warning - gripe and whine session). My mother sets the dates and times based on one of my sisters schedules. She and her husband own a business and are busiest near the holidays. However, making it convenient for them means those of us who live out of town often can't make it. For example, our family Christmas is set for Friday, December 20, at 6 p.m. If we get off at 5 p.m. and meet to drive, we can not possibly get there until 8:30 or so. Trying to figure out what to do and feeling sad. I am so tired of missing the family Christmas.

The only restrictions any of us have in life are those we place on ourselves.

We've made plans for Florida for this coming February. I'll have a paper due for my class over the time we're there, a little stressful but doable I think.

Anybody got any Thanksgiving/Hanukkah or Christmas plans yet or something good going on for Halloween?

I just got a good deal on a netbook ($40) from AT&T with a two-year commitment to a data plan. The data plan and my new phone I got too, a "GoPhone" will be less expensive than my old Blackberry whose contract runs out next month. Now I have exactly what I want and need instead of being bundled with what I don't want and having to pay extra for what I need (texting, not phone or internet service).

So, I'm excited; I'm going to make the netbook a mean, green, genealogy machine :-) and so I'm planning for that. I had to research to see what services I could receive in the Caribbean; for the island I'm going to, AT&T was better than Verizon.

I decided last month to do a genealogy project in the Caribbean in February 2013 and to start getting ready for it now. I'm slow off the mark in some areas (I really need to get my walking skills going so I can walk a couple miles a day; we'll be walking between the hotel and the archives more often than not).

I am getting the genealogy portion in order and like what I'm doing there but have been too intense with only that part and on the computer too long. So, starting today I'm going to see if I can work more physical, day-to-day activities into my life; I haven't done "chores" regularly since moving and retiring in 2005! A lot has "slipped" in retirement and some of it I want back now, now that I am in the habit of doing other stuff :-)

I could do without all this rain. Hopefully today's clearing should last for 4-5 days. It has been warm and I do enjoy just hanging out in jeans and teeshirts. . .

So, we're doing it again this year, I leave for Florida next Monday :-) We have a reservation through the 29th (did you realize this is leap year?) and then will come back up to Maryland a little slower, stop a day or two in Atlanta to see youngest son.

Well, my vacation is nearly over; we leave here on the 4th to go back up to Maryland. I'll probably spend time then thinking about what I learned this month. Mostly I've gotten some good reading done and eaten good foods. It hasn't gone at all like I imagined it would; does it ever?

Anyone doing any Fall vacations or planning any winter ones? When we were working, we use to do a February or March/April one down to Florida; DH can only stand so much winter and February was his limit. We sort of do now I think but don't plan as far in advance/look that far forward to it.

We still have to get the RV and "winterize" it for storage all winter and drive the boat across the river to the marina for winter storage (we don't have a trailer or anything, don't take the boat anywhere ourselves).

We had a great time; I had to work hard on the train ride, write down clues and pay attention (kept me from eating as much? :-) and I got the murderer right (the minister/priest). The story was full of really bad jokes and even worse puns.

I got some exercise too, but not at the gym; the resort's elevators went out and I had to walk up the stairs to the 6th floor to try and meet DH! Of course, I got up to the room and he'd just left, aaaarrrrrgh.

Wonderful food :-)

My DH and I are off in a few hours (actually, we're "off" most of the time) to a resort for the weekend to celebrate his 65th birthday. Tomorrow, his birthday, we're going on a dinner train ride through Western Maryland; they put on a "show" the whole time, a murder mystery and ours is a spoof of the Godfather and Sopranos, etc. and the person has been murdered before we leave the station and we go to his funeral before we even get on the train! Hmm. I think I'll find a black outfit to wear tomorrow! LOL

We'll be back Sunday afternoon.

Wait! Looks like I'll be taking my computer and posting to you all from the gym? emoticon
