Hi, I am Janet from Eastern Washington, and I turned 63 last May. I joined last winter, then took a 3 month vacation around the US this summer and managed to lose 3 lbs while I was gone. Am now steadily going downward. My advice to you and anyone else is write down everything you eat and drink lots of water. It sure helps me out. I have lost 25 lbs since the first of the year and have another 40 I am still working on getting rid of. I walk three miles every day and do a lot of yard work. Also do some strength building exercises (hate those). This group is great and you get all kinds of support. Just ask and someone will tell you where to look. I love all the motivation articles. Hi Susan. I lived in Tahoe 42 years ago first husband and got pregnant with my one and only child, Todd. He will be 42 on 1/1. I now live 'rural' in Fletcher NC since 11/07 when I moved from small town Travelers Rest, SC. Left the big cites of OKC, Houston, Dallas, Atlanta over 20+ year ago. Welcome!

Hello and welcome Susan. My name is Janice and I live in SE Ohio right on the river looking into WV. My favorite hobbys are reading mysteries, playing with my animals (5 cats, 2 kittens, and 1 dog). On my tape deck I have Andreas Boticelli, Charlie Daniels, ACDC, and Rod Stewart singing 40's and 50's favorites. I would like to walk but I have a condition that makes it a little dangerous for me to walk as exercise. I am going to try to do resistance bands and dancing to a DVD in my living room. My favorite food is any kind of fruit. I want to lose 60 pounds to get down where I was after my bariatric surgery. I love Spark People because there is always someone there to listen and give you a boost when you need it. I also started in a big town and ended up in a very rural community. It is nice to go back to visit my sisters and brothers in Pgh. but I don't want to live there. I will be 65 at the end of November. I just retired last year from teaching (30 YEARS) and I sub 1 or 2 days a week just so I don't get rusty. Well that's about it for me. Best wishes on your weight loss journey. Janice
Well the hardest part has been adjusting to seeing more cows than cars when I drive to work. The next thing has been a salary almost half of what I was earning. There are lots of positives, however, and being happy and feeling peaceful are on the top of the list.

Welcome Susan. You'll have to tell us more about getting used to rural areas. I moved from a large city to a coastal town in Oregon - when I go back to the city I'm always very happy to return to my more peaceful, quiet home.

Hi susan, I was born on 3/27/1946. So I got a few months on you.
My name is Sally and I used to live in Ca but I live in northern Alabama now. I really love it here.
I started on Sparks about 4 and a half months ago and it has been great.
When I first started Sparks I had 70 lbs to lose but I only put 50 down as my goal. Figured I would be very very lucky if i could just get some of it off. Just knew there was no way I was going to get 70lbs. off. Only took me a couple of months before I realized that I could do this. I changed my goal and I now have a lost close to that original 50 and I feel better than I have in years.
So... I hope you use everything that Spark has to offer. If you do you can't fail either.

Hi Susan, I am Pat who lives In Delaware. I was born on Feb. 3rd, 1944 and also love golf but to watch can't play it because of arthritis and bad back. My favorite music is anything but Rap or Heavy Metal. My favorite food is seafood of any kind. I love to dance as my exercise and use the exercise ball and walking alot also. My motivation for losing weight is to help my arthritis which I have . I love to read,be with my large family and dance. Hope to see you on often!! Big Sparkle Hug. Pat
