Baby steps!

Pick one thing and concentrate on that. You'll be much more successful than if you make drastic changes all at once.

Do you drink 8 (or more) cups of water every day? If not, that's a good place to start.

Do you eat 5 (or more) fruit and veggie servings a day? If not, there's another great place to start. Add a serving each day (or two).

Good luck!

I don't eat much pasta, and do eat whole wheat breads. I try to track my food every day and watch what I put in my mouth. Sometimes I have a little problem with my sweet tooth. I don't go out of my way to eat special foods, but do try to eat health foods of what I do eat.

For me, I replaced favorites with healthier choices (as previously mentioned) like wheat pastas and breads- I no longer eat bread very much at all- Then once I got used to that, I started weighing and measuring everything. Once I started that, I started eating ALOT less- which also made it easier to eat the not so healthy choices I can't do without. It took some time- But if it you only do a little change at a time it seems a whole lot easier... Good Luck.

that is the key for me too. to be aware of what i am eating and how much. sometimes i have to stop myself and play a little game of trying to figure out all the ingredients by taste or something.

but once you get your brained reprogrammed, you will have such a sense of freedom.

i see where you joined the mckenna team. they have a chat room just for the team. just contact the leaders and they will give you information... and anytime you need support... mail me and i'll be right there.

you can do this, i know you can!!

I can do all things in Him who strengthens me.

Donapatt! I've tried this rules and I probably didn't eat consciously most of the time..that's why it didn't work too much for me.. I always forget to do the tapping technique too when i get stressed out..... :( so i guess I haven't 'reprogrammed' my brain yet huh? :(

I'm glad you were able to succeed!
:D I need to start remembering to eat more consciously!!! emoticon

Donna, i think we all know what we are supposed to do but doing it is another thing. i had a major breakthrough with paul mckenna's i can make you thin... here are his 4 golden rules:
1. eat when you are hungry
2. eat what you like - not what you think you should eat
3. eat it consciously - pay attention to what you are eating, take your time, enjoy it, savor the tastes.
4. stop when you are full - if you think you are, stop and if you are still hungry in 15 mins eat again.

this has set me free, i go out to eat, i enjoy my food, i eat what i like.

the minute a food is "forbidden" your mind craves it.

i like the idea of substituting a healthier version of a food too if you like it. i find i like lowfat cottage cheese as much or better than reg, etc

the other thing, is try to get at least a 10 min walk in several times a day. even if you move alot for your work, which seems like you do. do extra. also maybe, get a pedometer and try to get 10,000 steps in.

and most important, just take it a day at a time.

using these things i have lost 67 lbs since christmas. i enjoy my food, i don't feel burdened by a diet. it is now a lifestyle.

I can do all things in Him who strengthens me.

Hi Donna,

I know what you mean about eating healthier....I'm challenged at EVERY MEAL... but to eat healthier is to just think healthier...(well for me it is) but sometimes that doesn't work either....

What I would suggest is if you eat white bread, replace it with whole grains or whole wheat bread. Same goes for pasta. You can basically eat a lot of the things you already do, but just substitute some of the foods? and I try to eat a lot of fruits to kill my sweet tooth...

oh and everything in moderation!

I feel like I am running in place! I guess I do not understand how to get started on a healthy eating plan (not diet). I am a RN and I should know but I do not know. Help! Donna
