HI,
Just starting out myself and could also you the words and wisdom of others.
They tell me to go slow and not push yourself right off the bat, as I have done so many times over the years, thus discouraging myself within a week or so.
They also tell me to drink my water and try to get some form of exercise each and every day.
I encourage you to encourage me and together we can make this happen.

Hello I just joined this morning! I've been losing weight since January 1st, but need to REALLY stay on track! I keep going "off the rails" after making a little progress (ie. losing 10 pounds), and then I regain my weight that I've lost. I've been on the "yo-yo" bandwagon for too long! I started at 168.0 on January 1st and am now 158.8. I'm almost at the 10 pound mark, and need to make sure I don't bounce up again! If any of you have any ideas or suggestions to stay on track, you are welcome to post them here! I'd LOVE to hear from you!!! :)

(Romans 12:12)

Have a blessed and wonderful day everyone!

Hi! Just getting the hang of this, but very excited. My goal is to lose 30 pds, by this summer - something I think is attainable. Looking forward to participating in the discussions and challenges.

I need to know what kind of exercises I can do that are easy to start off with when you weight 340 lbs.? I have feet and knee problems so am looking for some excises to do.

Yay, finally found 'my' class! I've seen teams like this on other profiles, but hadn't searched out mine yet. My primary interest here is the "High Blood Pressure" team.

Welcome back Fran.
I wish I could tell you a secret about staying on the right path. I think you just need to keep chugging along and make the right choices most of the time. Yes, I am very well aware that is easier said than done. I wish I could take my own advice! emoticon
In any case, being on SP on a regular basis has helped me and I hope it works for you TODAY and EVERYDAY from now on.

I've been on SP for a while, but never really availed myself of all the features. I joined Weight Watchers last week and am motivated to keep going. So I'm happy to be a part of the team and will contribute as I can.

I joined in January this year, and haven't been active since about April. I am active now, due to medical conditions. I'm 23, and I shouldn't have these problems, which tells me obesity is an underlying factor. I have lost 50 pounds this year! WOOHOO!!

Hello. I never introduced myself because I only got as far as joining the website. I decided today that I would start. Last summer I hit my target weight with slim fast, but when the website went down, I gained it all back over the course of a year. I put on my Halloween costume from last year and the buttons were pulling, I had to wear a girdle. That gave me the motivation to start back up. I just hope that I can find the time to do this. Wish me luck!!

Hi, Just introducing myself. Yo-Yo dieter, inconsistent exerciser, triying to get back together. I do nutrisystem and it works for me when I stick to it. Lost about 30 pounds earlier in the year but gained back 10 this summer. Joined a gym this time and have a personal trainer too. I will get rid of this weight and develop the healthy lifestyle I so desperately want and need!

Hey! I don't think I ever introduced myself. I joined back in jan. I weighed about 180 and was 3 months postpartum. I was so happy to find a site that put my caloric intake into perspective.

I was getting married in May and wanted to be in shape for the wedding. I got down to 140lbs by the end of may and was very proud.

After the honeymoon I got really lazy and started eating WAY too much and wasn't using sparkpeople. I was eating bags of candy to help me stay awake on night shift when I had to also be up all day with my son. I put on 18lbs really fast.

I am now back to using the site and I have started doing yoga dvds and LOVE them. I'm trying to get down to 135 by my birthday in Jan. of 09, and I feel like it is a goal I can do without trying too hard...

Good luck to all!

Just a note to say hi to everybody out there! I joined Sparkpages in January. I haven't lost anything yet but that's because I hate the food, I hate having to measure everything, I found the exercises boring and painful and besides which I cant seem to find a schedule between my boss switching my hours all over the place and my family scheduling fun little gettogethers where we all sit around and eat cake and every other kind of highfat highcarb thing possible. As far as support, I have none. Nor can I find a gymn partner even at the gymn everyone else already has someone to play with. So I do it alone as in by myself. And I've learned the hard way not to mention exercise or healthy eating or any other kind of self improvement around anyone I know. So if this makes me a misfit here too then that's all I expect. But I am going to get healthy even though it will probably kill me to do so.

Hi there!

You don't have a Spark Page yet, so I am not able to see your food and fitness to give you any ideas. So, here's a few basics to check:

Are you drinking at least 8 cups of water each day?
Are you still loggig your food intake? Sometimes going back to measuring portions and logging EVERYTHING for a few days helps.

What I would highly suggest is to go back to the Fast Break stage. You can do that from your start page (click "My Tools" then "Start" above). The Spark Diet stages are on the left side of your page about half-way down. Going back to the Fast Break can help you jumpstart your weight loss. Be sure to follow all the Fast Break strategies that will come in your email every couple of days for two weeks. They are designed to help you begin to make small changes (baby steps!) that will eventually become lifelong habits.

Best of luck reaching your goals. Please keep us posted!

Hi Everyone,
I found and joined SP through a newsletter I subscribe to. I am a 50 something graduate student about to get my masters in May. The downside to that is I managed to put on 25 pounds in 3 years while eating on the meal plan. That didn't count the 25 I was carrying before school.
About 8 years ago I lost 50 pounds over a year and then kept it off for over two years. Then they just started reappearing - funny how that happens :-) I don't tend to yo-yo on my weight but I also don't lose it easily.
I would love to lose 5 pounds by graduation (6 weeks). I think that once I do graduate and get settled again I will have a better chance of getting rid of this excess baggage. I do drink my water and record my foods pretty regularly. I rarely go above the calorie count but exercise is an issue for me.
I've really enjoyed being a part, though silent, of SP.

Hello, joined back in January and don't remember if I introduced myself. I am the mom of 3 boys that keep me on my toes.
I always tell everyone I have 3 jobs. The one that pays the bills, the one that gives me joy (raising the boys) and the one that gives me satisfaction (school board member).
I have been poking around the team now for a few days and have been doing the challenges on my own but I decided to get social as much as I can.

Hey everybody,
I joined spark back in January but am just joining (or possibly rejoining) this team due to some off again on again computer issues....I am pushing 43 and trying to re-train my metabolism to work like it did in my 20's! Whew! weight keeps finding me-time to work it off through good eating choices and exercise...

I am a middle school teacher in Michigan...where we are just getting thawed out for spring! I have two children ages 17 and 6 who keep me busy...I love to read, bowl, shop, go to garage sales, watch sports, and am learning to love exercise early in the morning!

I am looking forward to being on this team as we make our spark journeys....

Welcome Debi, nice to hear from you. I live on Vancouver Island. A diet buddy definitely helps but there are a lot of supportive sites here that can help you achieve your goal.

I know you can cheat easily when you do it on your own, but you know I belong to a group for more senior people and they are fantastic. I don't think I could lie to them and in any event I would only hurt myself. With their help, I am down almost twenty pounds in the last two months. Hope you do well.

As for those young people at work, I know all about that but you are right their turn will come. When I get a junk food craving I eat one of those 100 calorie snack packs and they do the trick.

Talk to you later.

Hello everyone. I'm Debi from southern Ontario, Canada. I've been on the Sparkpeople for a few months & finally finding some time to find my way around this site. I love all the articles & personal stories I've been reading. I've been dieting all my life off & on, mostly on but finding it much harder to keep my weight in check since the menopause monster came to live at my house. It can be very difficult with all the hormone changes.

I really hate to exercise so I'm hoping to find a walking buddy or twist my friends arm to join a gym with me. An exercise buddy really helps. As well a dieting buddy because my friend & I were going to Weight Watchers up until Christmas & I lost 10 lbs in 6 weeks with someone to compare notes with & a stranger weighing me each week. It keeps you honest with someone on your side.

My best dieting tactic is not to eat meat with starches. If I have pasta I will just have it with salsa & a tomato sauce. I use that allot for a quick lunch because it fills me up easily along with a fruit & then some carrot sticks with tomato & bean hummus in the afternoon for a snack. My only meat I am eating is fish (all kinds to keep it interesting) at dinner with a light carb veggie or salad on the side.

The hardest thing for me is the people I work with. They are junk food junkies, always eating chips & candy. I really despise their skinny little butts some time but they are all much younger than me (their time will come).
Well, I hope we can all motivate each other. It's the hardest thing to do, to deny ones self of the goodies that everyone else can easily eat.
Debi/ K/W, Ontario emoticon

Hi everyone. I've been working hard on my weight loss goals, but I've been neglecting the "support" area. Going it alone can make it hard to stay motivated!

I hope we can share our success in this journey!

Ok well I joined in January and was really pumped to use this page to help in my weight loss goals. I ended up having to wipe my computer and reload windows, and just never got around to getting back on the website. SO hear I am all pumped again and ready to go.

Hi
I joined in last week of Jan but am now just really getting going. In the first week of February I lost my dad. Even though I was ready to make changes in my life that was not one of them. I find that I'm tired all the time so exercise is going to be key for me. My dad had health problems associated with weight so more than ever I see the importance of your health. Hopefully, I can make a change now.

Hello,
I am 27 years old and am trying to lose the baby weight I gained while pregnant with my now almost 3 year old daughter. I haven't really tried in the past, but my husband has just booked a tropical vacation for our anniversary with another couple and I would like to get to a weight and size that I feel more comfortable with. I realized recently that it makes it a little easier to have a support group and I am open to any advice or suggestions others may have.

Hi all,
I joined Spark People on January 21, but just now joined this team. Joined the site along with a few other ladies in a private team that is now not very active. I never realized I needed the support! So, wanted to join a team that is active.
I've loved what I have found on this site. It has really helped me.
Looking forward to reading all the posts!

Hi,

I'm 27 years old and have been on a weight loss journey for the last 6 years. I did very well on SparkPeople the first few weeks. The pounds were coming off pretty quickly. But the last couple of weeks have been harder. The scale hasn't budged even though I've started exercising more and have been keeping within my calorie goals for the most part. I'm just trying not to get discrouraged and give up like I've done before. I'm trying to just be proud of the fact that I've been sticking to the exercise and eating healthier.

Hi; I've been on SP since January off and on, I keep
finding new thinks on the site. I'm in my late 40's
and made 2008 my year, since my kids are also leaving and making a life of their own. My 2 babies
(pets) Sammy and Sparky and my husband are in my life. I ended up with back problems 2 years ago and not able to work out like I used to, this cause me from gaining weight also I went on meal strike 4 years ago and told my husband to take care of the meals.. big mistake. I'm finally teaching him the healthy way of cooking, he's loving it and I'm getting back to cooking with SP meals. I feel that when you get to an age in your life, you can have your whole family or be own your own you need to make the change in your life for yourself not for anybody but yourself. We never seem to to do for "ME", it's about time we do. If we're happy with our self's, the people around us will also be happy.

Wishing you all the best on your journey for "you"

Hi all. I looking forward to "chatting" with everyone. I can use all the support I can get. So far, dieting/exercise has been going well. I keep thinking this will be like all the others and I'll "fall off the wagon" but I've managed to keep the negative thoughts at bay. With your encouragement, I may be able to banish them all together.

Took me a while to get to know my way around this site, but I am here now and so impressed. I have been tracking everything that goes in my mouth, and am amazed at all the things I am finding out here. This is a wonderful site, and I look forward to getting to know a few folks and the give and take of support. I am from northwestern PA and work part time. I have three grown children, 2 girls and a boy. I am currently facing a painful divorce, but I am finding out that working at taking off the weight and being successful makes all my problems lighter! What a blessing I have found here at this site.

Hi everyone! I'm also new. Lets see....where do I begin?? Well, it all started back in November. My grandma was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer which had spread to her lymphnodes right before Thanksgiving. Her diagnosis really hit me hard and made me do some thinking about myself and what I wanted in my life.

I thought about my life and what it was at the time and still is today. I am working towards one of my dreams (getting my degree), married to a wonderful hubby (for the most part, lol!), and above all I have two beautiful girls who fill my day with love, laughter, frustration, and patience. Aside from that though, I realized I really only had 2 obstacles to overcome to make myself truly happy.

The first was to quit smoking. And I am happy to say that I achieved that goal the day after Christmas. I haven't smoked a single one and I am at the point now where I never even crave one anymore. In fact, just the thought of them makes me sick to my stomach. I'll never know how smoked for nearly 14 years!!

The second obstacle I have to overcome now is my weight. It has been a battle for me pretty much ever since I could remember. When I got to 155 back in high school I told myself enough was enough and started working out and eating less. I was so proud of myself when I got down to 105!! But after a while, I stopped working out as much...then just stopped working out all together. The same thing with my eating habits, did really well, then over a few years got back into really bad habits.

So here I am. I am here to overcome my last obstacle and to get back into the groove of exersizing and eating right. I don't think I'll ever get back to 105, I just want to be healthy. So far I am doing well. Of course I still have some moments, but overall I am doing good and with time I have the confidence that I can change and stick with it this time!!

I look forward to meeting everyone and wish everyone the best of luck! emoticon

Hi all,
I have 3 small children (4, 3 and almost 2, yes I"m busy...lol) and I weigh more now than I was a year ago. We had an extremely stressful year and I put on 20 lbs and was already over-weight so the battle has once again begun but this time I feel armed with SP, a personal trainer and a new motivation like never before. Good luck to us all,
Sara

Hey everyone I have been on this for awhile now but just been sitting back trying to figure things out and reading everyone's inside story. Mine is- a little weird I was always good with my weight even after having my twin boys 23 yrs. ago, but I always kept active at home and worked my butt off at work...........Now within the last 5yrs I have been robbed of alot of that. I have been diagnosed with Meniere's disease [it's an ear balance issue] I have been on several meds over the last 5 yrs and been up and down with my weight, now I need to deal with this whole thing and the weight too. I love making and selling my crafts, I have a very loving guy that has put up alot with me, my kids are 2-23yrs and 1 at 20. We also have 2 loving dogs- basically my company through this... I am looking for any words of wisdom. Thanks. emoticon

Hi,
My first time in the SP Class of 20-26, 2008. Not really sure how everything works. I'm interested in meeting people in my team. Joined SP to try and deal with ongoing weight issues for almost 20 years. My family is really young and it's important for me to become healthier to be there for them and set a good example for a healthier lifestyle for them emoticon

Hi, I'm Kathy. I'm 41 years old. Married 10 years and have a 5-year-old son. I live in New England.

My goal is to drop 50 lbs by Thanksgiving. And since joining here the third week of January, I'm proud to say I've lost 5 lbs - I'm right on target!

This is exactly what I needed, a way to track my eating and to monitor my excercise.

On this website, i belong to another group where I get a lot of support - about 12 of us who are friends with similar goals.

I thought I'd say hellow to this group since we all joined the same week. So, Hello! :)

Hi everyone,

I joined sparkpeople about a month ago, but I've just been reading everything on the site and havn't had time until tonight to read some of the forums.
I'm 42, I work as an ultrasound tech and love it.
I have about 50 lbs to lose. I see at work many people who have many health problems due to being overweight and not eating healthy, so i am trying to avoid that myself. At my work we have started a biggest loser contest, so i have a weigh in every thursday. I like it, it keeps me on track. so far, I'm down 13 lbs in 4 weeks.I'm looking forward to the support and information of this group.

thanks Lynne

Hello,

I'm a 32 year old working dad w/ a SAHW and a 2 year old daughter. I woke up one day and tipped the scales at 249 lbs and 49% body fat. I decided right then and there that neither number was going to go up by a single digit.
At 5 foot 6 inches, I was clearly in bad shape. I decided that my daughter would never know a dad that was always out of breath, out of shape and couldn't play so a few weeks after she was born I began working out and it's been a long hard 2 years, but after sitting at 215 for many months I found SP and have started to once again drop.

My ultimate goal is 180 lbs. SP is definitely the best tool I've found to date. Everyone here has been really awesome, I hope I can return some of that to the community. :)

Hello,

My name is Jackie and I am 22 years old. I am a senior in college. I am currently 225 pounds and I am trying to lose about 85 pounds (of course that is a long term goal) I am just going to take this process one day at a time, because I really want this and I don't want to fail (and I wont!)

I just wanted to stop in and say hi. I had been trying to lose weight for a while, and didn't realize what I was doing wrong. Spark has certainly helped me with that! Tracking my calories has been difficult, but it's certainly helping. Now to work on getting more fruits and veggies in.

Well, I am new. I have been prowling around trying to get up the nerve to post. I have never posted on a message board before. I am 58 years old. I am married. We have three grown children. The oldest is a boy - married with a beautiful son. The second is a girl - married with two beautiful boys. Our third is not married yet - a girl. We have a black lab and no other pets. We just buried my dad on Tuesday of this week. He had just turned 93 years old. My mom is still with me. I am the 5th of nine children, all still living. My sister turned me on to this site. I haven't found her yet, on site. She lives in Georgia. I live in Oklahoma.

First time on this site...have been on a couple of others. I must say that SP is working for me. I just got back from two weeks in Arizona where I did not have any say as to what my meals would be. Nor did I have any exercise but walking/hiking available. To make a wonderful story short I lost one pound. May not sound like much but I was thrilled to step on the scale and do that good. Now it is only upward...actually downward and forward to goal!
