New runners/walkers should not think about their time, only finishing within the time limit. If you have trained well, you should do just as well.

Try using something like Body Glide to prevent blisters, and make sure your shoes don't fit too tightly.

Have fun and we'll be waiting to hear how you did!

Thanks guys! I know I can finish it, but I'm nervous about my time. Plus I have a huge blister from training and I just hope it doesn't affect my time too much. Thank you all though for the encouragement. If you would have told me 6 months ago I was going to be a 5K in a few days I would have laughed in your face. I am excited by seeing how much my body can change and do in only a few months.

I agree with everyone else, enjoy! My first 5k I did a combo of walking and running and I had a great time. It was a good experience. Good luck and try not to be too nervous. I understand though. I am always nervous before races, and I've done a bunch now.

I've done 2 5Ks my first in August - had 2 small hills and I actually finished faster that than I had hoped. Yes, I walk and run and the last mile I walked more than I ran but I did it, I finished (altnough between miles 1 and 2 I wanted to quit cuz the little demons were telling me I couldn't do it). I ran for ME. I did my second last week. I knew it would be a faster one cuz it was flat and since it was in a cemtery there was no traffic etc you get on a road race. I did my ususal run/walk and I may have come in 92 out of 93 but I FINISHED ALMOST 4 MIN FASTER THAN MY FIRST!! That meant more to me than anything else.

So I guess what I'm saying is it's your race...run/walk it your way...no matter what time it's your time...be proud of it..it's yours!!

I hope this makes sense...GOOD LUCK AND ENJOY YOURSELF!!!

I agree with the "have fun" portin. On my first one, I jut ran and walked what couldn't, which was like 90% of it. LOL

You wilf find that the atmosphere is very laid back and there people of all ages shapes, etc. Congrats on commitng to your first one. Hope it is one of many

Hi all!
I'm new to SparkPeople and found this page. I have my very first 5K on Saturday, Nov. 17 and I am so, so nervous and worried about it.

I am without a doubt a slow fat runner.

Just wondering if anyone had any tips or helpful hints for me?
