Consistency is key to quality workouts; but, I know just how you feel.

I've fallen off my bike 3x in as many weeks (fortunately, found out it was not cyclist error, but mechanical issues), and that shakes your confidence. The same sort of thing happens with running.

But, as far as taking advantage of what's offered on the route, find out what energy drink is planned (e.g., Cytomax, Powerade, etc.) and train with it. The last thing you need is to surprise your body with something new on race day.

Some folks prefer Shot Blocks, sports beans, Chomps, etc. to the Gu gels. You have to train with the refueling products, and never accept anything offered on the route by non-official support/volunteers.

Sometimes we all struggle with getting back into the running routine. That you have a target event helps. Have you registered for it, yet? That will certainly be a motivator.

Bottom line, you've done a 1/2 before, you can do it again. Speed doesn't matter.

I've been a runner, okay, a slow jogger, for about 10 years. The problem is that I am not consistent with my workouts. In 2009 I ran a 1/2 marathon and thought I was going to die at the end. I'm not sure if that made me self conscious of running or what but since then I have been struggling to get back into running. I finally decided to get off my asterisk and start up a program for myself again. I'm training for a 1/2 marathon in September 2012. I think part of the reason that I felt so bad after the last 1/2 marathon I did was because I didn't take advantage of the goo packs or the food that was offered at the recovery stations. Live and learn. This time it will be a better experience!!!! I just wanted to say that I'm not a fast runner by any means. I am lucky to break a 15 min mile. But I am going to work on that along with this weight loss. I need friends on this site!!
