I just decided that I needed to find my thing. That I needed some stress relief and I need a release that was just mine. I picked a c25k program and started running. I learned to love it. Now I just need to get back at it.

I think running races really helps with the motivation. There have been times when I just didn't feel like dealing and having that race circled on the calendar got me to lace up my shoes - well that and the dog standing there with his leash in his mouth looking at me.

It's a sad thing to think you're a let down to the dog. emoticon

I've been walking three miles each way to and from work for over 20 years (weather permitting- snow and rain get me in the car) but I kept gaining weight. My body just expected me to walk. So I thought that maybe taking it up a notch and running 2-3 times a week might help with the weight, and it does, except that I still eat too much!

I was never a runner and was a fat child and fat adult and never even dreamed of running. But then about a year and a half ago at age 55 I decided to try it. I was amazed that I actually enjoyed it. I'm not fast but I love doing it just for me.

I've always been a walker. So I started out when I got to my biggest doing 21 minute miles. I then did a 5k in 50 minutes and decided I had to up my game and get a momentous challenging goal so i signed up for a half marathon. I now can do 11.5-12 minute miles

Well I never thought I would run anywhere. I was an overweight child and as a child I refused to run even in PE. I played soccer as a goalie. I never ran for more than 20 steps anywhere until in my 30's a challenge at the gym begun, a biggest loser style challenge. My trainer set some goals for me, one was a 5K. Now I run about 3X per week

I became a runner because I spent my entire childhood running laps because I was in trouble. I just figured that I'd skip the part where I smart off first and just go straight to the running.

kidding - sort of

I do remember the first day I decided to actually run. I laced up what I'm sure were cross trainers and took off like the house was on fire. I remember lying there on the next door neighbor's lawn thinking, "this is nuts, people do this for 26.2 miles how is that possible."

I did eventually figure out what to do. Now I'm doing speed work and it reminds me of that day.
