My name is Dana and I've been working out for the past year or so, and have already lost 50 pounds. As the elliptical machine isn't doing much for me anymore, so I decided to give jogging a shot. I used to run with my dad when I was a teenager and ran pretty regularly back then, but that was also 15 years ago. I started walking and then I started jogging, for a minutes, then 5 minutes, then I decieded to run a mile...and I did it! Then, last week, I ran a "5k" on the treadmill...very slowly of course...but I ran nevertheless. I ran the 5k in 50 minutes and I was very proud of myself. I almost wanted to shout, "I ran a 5k for FIFTY MINUTES!!!" in the gym, but I restrained myself.
I feel like I'm a beginner, but I look at the beginner workouts in magazines and and I feel like I'm past that point, but I'm definitely SLOW SLOW SLOW at running. So, I guess I'm not a beginner, but a rookie? All I know is that I'm very new to this jogging/running aspect of my life, and I'm doing something that I thought I was too "fat" to do. I realized that it's mind of matter more than athletic ability.
My goal is run a real 5k, 8k, 10k, half marathon and eventually a marathon. I'm learning everything I can about running and how to do this new hobby safely, so that I don't injure or burn myself out.
I'm looking forward to the conversations and learning everything new about running with people who know that I'm a slow, fat runner!
